The ultimate PokerStars VIP Club experience

From the peaceful and breath-taking views of the German Alps to the boisterous and celebratory streets of downtown Munich, this trip to Germany has been one for the books.

As I was strolling through the PokerStars VIP store, I noticed a new item in the "VIP Club Live" category: a VIP package for two to a U2 concert in Berlin, Germany. I immediately called the biggest live music fan that I know, my father. I explained that I would have an opportunity for us to go to this once-in-a-life-time experience. He replied with "yes" faster than a Porsche on the German Autobahn.

After many weeks of anxious preparation, we started our trip by boarding a flight taking us from Canada to a city I had been dying to visit: Berlin. The first leg of our trip was spent exploring the many historic sites that the city had to offer such as Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall, and the Brandenburg Gate.

It was amazing to experience firsthand these historic landmarks. After touring the city and adjusting to the time differences, we travelled to a beautiful hotel in the heart of Berlin that was part of the VIP Experience. Greeted by the organizers of the event, we were shown into a reception with copious amounts of beer, wine, and food. After the reception we were taken to the Mercedes Benz Arena for the U2 concert. With some of the best seats in the house, this show was exceptional and one of the best live performances by a band I have ever seen! U2 manages to convey several meaningful messages throughout their performances making their shows have much more value than a normal concert.

The next morning we were left with a few days to roam the rest of the country. We decided that Munich would be a cool place to see, so we headed there. Ironically, we were not intentionally going there for Oktoberfest (we thought it would be in October!). Much to my surprise, the hotel in Munich had several staff dressed in funky outfits and greeting customers with free beer and pretzels. After hearing rumours of the festival we decided to experience it firsthand. The rumours we heard about this being the biggest beer festival in the world definitely were true. Several thousand people (apparently 6-8 million over the duration of the festival) gathered and celebrated over copious amounts of music, rides, and of course... beer.

Oktoberfest was crazy!

The last part of our journey took us to a very quaint town in the Bavarian Alps called Berteschgaden. Words could not do this town justice. Situated amongst the towering Alps, this Berteschgaden reminded me of a place I have only seen in movies. It was almost like we stepped out of a time machine here. Enjoying the slower pace of life in the mountainous fresh air was a fantastic way to end a great trip that all started back home browsing the VIP Store to see how I could put my FPPs to good use! Prost! (Cheers!)
