Weekend Review: Johan finally gets hands in Sunday Million Van Til

Somewhere there's a neat quote about perseverance that suits this week's Sunday Million winner. It might be something like Vince Lombardi's insistence on "self-denial, hard work, sacrifice and dedication". Or maybe it's closer to Julie Andrew's point. Fail 19 times and get it right on number 20.

To use the latter Johan "busto_soon" Van Til might feel more like he's "failed" 200 times only to succeed on attempt 201. But that doesn't tell the full story.

Van Til has been around the online and live game for years. Never topping the bill in events like this perhaps, but more than qualified to play them week after week. That counts for something. Perhaps that says more of Van Til's story than this latest result. He may not have won this before, but technically he never needed to. His results up to now prove that.

So while it's great to see a player of his stature take the title, it's not proof of his ability. That much was already assured. You can read the full report of Van Til's win, written by Kristen Bihr, here. It's one of those feel good wins.

Elsewhere Saintreine won the Sunday Warm Up. He denied countryman Paul "padjes" Berende from adding to his SCOOP and TCOOP titles. It was one of those finals loaded with former winners of something, as David Aydt explained in his report. Read the full story here.

Here are those two results in full.

It's usually at this point in the weekend review that we rattle off a few names who also won some things. Well, this week is no different.

Lacking the cash perhaps, many still earned some cache.

They include Victor "Puropoker123" Lemos who won the Saturday Super-Knockout. Chris "NigDawG" Brammer won the $215 Weekly 6-Max NLHE. Viktor "Isildur1" Blom usually plays stakes to make ears bleed. This week he won the Weekly FL Omaha Hi/Lo for stakes to make his ears pop. Then there was Luc "YRWTHMELTHR" Greenwood of the Greenwood poker dynasty. He won the Sunday Kick-Off for $22,287.

Not all of them made the top ten list, but here it is in full.

Not your week? Then take a page from Van Til's book of perseverance. You may not succeed at first, but defeats are simply markers on that road to your final goal. I know, that's terrible. Let's just say I'm sorry things didn't work out this time.

As always you can reach us on Twitter @PokerStarsBlog. For now, congratulations to all of this week's winners, and good luck to everyone at the tables this week.
