Five things for the weekend on PokerStars
A quick look at some of the stories from the week on PokerStars.
• PokerStars Championship Prague begins this weekend
• Andy Wilson on his Thrill win
• Christmas on PokerStars
• What you can learn this week from Poker Schools
• Discord home game opens
Back to Prague
It's the most wonderful time of the year. We mean the PokerStars Championship in Prague, which kicks off, technically at least, on Sunday, with the start of the Super High Roller (although events in Prague are already under way).
Our reporting team will be getting stuck into things when play starts at 12.30pm local time on Sunday, with three days of the Super High Roller. Then on Tuesday the Main Event begins, playing through to the final table the following Monday, which is also when the High Roller event concludes.
It's a great way to end the year's major tournament calendar, and to build up to Christmas. If you're in Prague, come and say hello.
Andy Wilson on his Thrill win
It started when Lex Veldhuis won the Thursday Thrill. Among the thousands of viewers watching Veldhuis on Twitch was Andy "BowieEffect" Wilson who, inspired by the result, took to playing the Thrill himself a week later. Inspiration is powerful stuff, as Wilson can tell you, because he won it.
This week Wilson talked to the Blog about that win, the inspiration, and his own experience streaming both as an eGamer, and poker player. Read that here.
Coming up this Christmas
No matter whether you're a tourney player, a cash game grinder, or like the other stuff,
we've got something under the tree for you in the new PokerStars Christmas Challenges promo.
In the lead up to Christmas, there will be more than $2 million in prizes on offer and daily $25,000 all-in shootouts, with CardMatch Challenges, Reward Point, Happy Hours, CardHunt Puzzles, Jacks or Better Challenges, Golden Sit & Go tourneys, and more.
Above and beyond that, if you finish ten or more challenges, you will get an entry into a Christmas Day freeroll with a $100,000 prize pool and $30,000 in random prizes.
This week on PokerStars School
There was plenty of new content on PokerStars School this week, and we picked out three of them that might help turn this weekend on PokerStars into a good one.
1. What is Game Theory Optimal, and how can you use it in your game?
2. How self-criticism plays a part in poker, and how not to let it get the better of you.
3. The latest instructional video for 6-Max cash games, this week how to deal with C-Bets.
Find out more on PokerStars School.
The new Discord home game
Lastly, Discord. Or rather our Discord Home Game Club, which as Lee Jones announced on the Blog this week, is officially open. It's an innovative new way of talking poker, which Lee is a glorious cheerleader for. Details of how you can sign up can be found on the Blog here.
