PokerStars Celebrates Sunday Million 11th Anniversary
Twelve different routes to the $1,000,000 top prize
It's the event we feature every week, and the one that players most want to win. The Sunday Million turns 11 next month, and PokerStars plans to celebrate. That means an event bigger rendition of our flagship tournament, guaranteed to make one player a millionaire.
It all takes place on Sunday April 2, with a special $10 million guaranteed prize pool rendition of the Sunday Million, with seven figures for the winner, and plenty more for those going deep.
What's more we're giving players twelves routes to win that million, with options available to players of any bankroll. That means direct buy-ins, satellites from a dollar, Spin & Go's and more.
The anniversary edition will also be a triple re-entry tournament, giving you three strikes before you're about.
Since it first appeared on March 6, 2006, the Sunday Million has been played by almost 3 million unique players. Last year's anniversary event was won by Canadian "a.urli" who topped a field of 55,059 (including re-entries), to win the $970,000 first prize after agreeing a four-way deal.
Over those 11 years, only 11 players have pulled off a Sunday Million double, earning two titles and entry into what is an exclusive club.
* Diegoaiz, a marathon runner and clinical researcher from Argentina, won titles in 2008 and then again three years later in 2011.
* Jesper "KipsterDK" Hougaard from Copenhagen, who is known for his talents in the world of sports and mindsports (he is a former Danish national table tennis team member with two WSOP bracelets to his name), won in 2008 and 2009.
* And then there is the elite within the elite: Rob "robtinnion" Tinnion and Kevin "kevsteele" Steele - the only players to win two Sunday Million titles each within 12 months of their first.
Obviously that means the door is still open for a first triple winner.
You'll want to get started, so you'll need the small print and the details of each route into what will likely be one of the major events of the year. You can find that on the special 11th anniversary homepage, which has all the details you'll need.
The PokerStars Blog will be on hand to record the action on April 2, 2017, a day that will make at least one player extraordinarily happy.
