Weekend planner: It's Festival (and a funny) weekend!
So, you wanna play a big ol' poker tournament, but you can't really justify flying all the way to the Philippines? Or maybe you heard about that PokerStars Festival in Bucharest, but flights out of Manila are all booked up. Out of luck? No, sir! No ma'am!
As it happens, we have two major live PokerStars events happening at the very same time. What's more, we have crews in both cities sending you coverage of the biggest stories at each.
Need some stuff to keep your eyes busy for the next couple of days? We've got you covered. Step inside for a little trip around the world.
Jack Stanton and Dan Jones took the hop from England to Romania this week where the Bucharest poker room has been just...well, slammed.
The guarantee for the Main Event fell to pieces midway through Day 1B as a record number of folks showed up for the craziness. Not only that, but there was also a Day 1C flight, a turbo event available only to those people who had gone bust in Day 1A and Day 1B. It was, by Chris Moneymaker's estimation...
This is literally the craziest poker table I have ever been at. Almost can not believe the hands when flipped up. @PokerStarsBlog— Chris Moneymaker (@CMONEYMAKER) August 3, 2017
You can catch up with all the action right here on our dedicated PokerStars Festival Bucharest coverage page.
Or perhaps you prefer your craziness to come from a different hemisphere. We've got that kind of action, too. Brad Kain made the jaunt from Melbourne to Manila to see how the PokerStars Festival would play in the Philippines.
While PokerStars already has a history in the Philippines, this is the first time a PokerStars Festival schedule has played out there.
Just like in Bucharest, we will have coverage from Manila all weekend. To keep up with that, visit our PokerStars Festival Manila coverage page.
While the Festivals are all great fun, we can't help but get sort of excited about the fact that we are mere weeks away from the next PokerStars Championship. After trips to the Bahamas, Panama, Macau, Monte Carlo, and Sochi, it's time to turn our attention to one of tour players' favorite stops: Barcelona.
A good many of you are probably familiar with Barcelona, but if you've not yet had the pleasure, please allow us the opportunity to enlighten you on a few of the city's highlights.
Yesterday, we published a full guide to Barcelona. Inside it, you will find some of the must-see sights, must-eat restaurants, and must-do activities. You can read that right here:
And while that's all exciting enough on its own, we would be remiss if we didn't remind you of this week's biggest Barcelona story.
We learned this week that the PokerStars Championship Barcelona party is going to be one for the history books. Why? Well, the headline performer that night will be none other than Grammy-winning superstar DJ Zedd.
In addition to playing the party, Zedd is also scheduled to play some poker while he is there.
To read all about it, check this out:
PokerStars Championship Barcelona: Seat open for Zedd!
Last night, we had a crew at the launch of Kevin Hart's new venture, led by none other than Mr. Daniel Negreanu.
Laugh Out Loud is a new streaming service for new and upcoming comics. Hart might know a thing or two about that kind of thing.
We also embedded one of our own in the crowd, and while he's yet to come up for air this morning, we're expecting some good stories from our own Alex Villegas, who, from what we understand, had to wear a suit to go to this thing last night. We'll assume he slept in it.
Speaking of Kevin Hart, we have been keeping ourselves entertained for a couple of days by seeking out funny poker scenes in popular culture. They are everywhere. We highlighted a few of them (one not at all safe for your work) here.
Until we find our man Villegas, that's all we have for now.
Have a good weekend, and if you see Alex, have him call home!
