Putting the Hart in PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo

If coverage from the rest of the PokerStars Championship in Monaco continues in the same fashion as opening day, we're in for a lively ten days.

The Super High Roller kicked off yesterday, headlined by the arrival of Kevin Hart, but also the chip leaders at the end of Day 1.

That was Daniel Dvoress, closely followed by another Daniel, Negreanu. As I write this play is half an hour away. As you read this it has probably started - you can follow exclusive live updates of Day 2 of the Super High Roller here.

Jason Mercier nine years on

Nine years ago this month a 21-year-old from Florida named Jason Mercier arrived in Sanremo, Italy, to play his first EPT Main Event. With ambitions of making Day 2 Mercier instead went all the way, not only winning the event but launching a career that is still in the ascendancy today.

Crucial to that win was the hand he played against Frenchman Eric Koskas, a memorable call which provided the momentum he needed to win the title.

In an interview for the PokerStars Blog we spoke to Mercier about that hand, the event itself, and what it meant for his career. Mercier offers some fascinating insight into the hand itself, as well as how not to book a trans-Atlantic flight to the Riviera.

Would he play the hand in the same way again? Find out by reading the interview here.

Poker In The Ears

We'll let the team introduce this week's episode...

"James, Joe and Matt are about to travel to the French Riviera for a week of TV production and webcasting. Before they go, the boys bring you the #PSCMonteCarlo Preview Show, with a full rundown of the streams they'll be hosting (at PokerStars.tv/live), and details of the new PokerStars Championship Cash Challenge TV series being filmed at the event. Plus, there's news of the freerolls - including the return of the popular Bounty Bonus tournaments - that #PokerStarsTV viewers can play while watching the action from Monaco.

"Finally, Joe is forced to answer questions about one of his least favourite TV shows, 'Entourage', as #PokerInTheEars listener Sam Warren tries to win prizes in 'Superfan vs Stapes'."

Not only do they feature packed schedules, but also guaranteed prize pools for each of the Main Events. For more details check out our story about these new additions to the PokerStars calendar.

PokerStars makes another Millionaire

Over the years PokerStars has got into the habit of making Millionaires. While some of us here have quit drinking and, well, thought what it might be like to quit drinking, this is one habit we're happy not to break.

The latest Millionaire is nick2101983, who earlier this week held his nerve to win the all-or nothing Millionaire Challenge for $1 million. As well as the full story, you can watch footage of what proved a no-sweat bubble, as well as the final hand (with reaction from Team Online's Felix Schneiders along the way), simply by clicking here.
