Portugal, France and Spain unite! Trio Series smashes guarantees with €6.45M won

This month, for the first time in three years, online poker players from Portugal were able to play on PokerStars against those in France and Spain. We're very happy to say that the results exceeded all expectations, as well as all prize pool guarantees.

The Trio Series, which ran June 3-13, became the first tournament series to celebrate the new shared player pool between the three countries. The 78-event schedule smashed its €5 million overall guaranteed prize pool, ultimately awarding €6,457,486 in prizes.

Out of the incredible 40,816 unique players who took part, it'll be Spain's 'Ineed1000ETH' who looks back at the Trio Series the fondest. He took down the €500K guaranteed Main Event for €71,917.47, defeating 2,645 entries and taking the lion's share of the €615,195 prize pool.

Portugal, France and Spain combined for the Trio Series

By running the series, PokerStars became the first online operator to offer a shared player pool between the three countries since Portugal joined the union last month. The Trio Series' success follows on from France and Spain's very own Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), which surpassed its record-breaking €10 million guarantee to reach €11,768,035.

We also held the PokerStars FRESH (France Espania Hold'em) Series for French and Spanish players earlier in the year, and that too smashed its €5M guarantee by more than a million euros (€6,149,751).

"We've had great success with our various series in shared liquidity regions and it's brilliant to see the Trio Series carry on this trend," said Severin Rasset, Director of Product Innovation and Operations at The Stars Group. "We believe that this has strengthened our offering in Southern Europe and we will continue to work hard to give our players the best experience in the market. Players benefit from the shared player pool between Portugal, Spain and France in all aspects of the poker offering and we hope that Italian players will benefit from the same great offer soon."

Yep. Hold tight Italy. We haven't forgotten about you!

Italian Regulators have reiterated their intentions to join the shared market, so as soon as it becomes possible, PokerStars intends to seek the necessary approval to bring Italian players into the shared player pool.

But for now, congratulations again to Trio Series Main Event winner 'Ineed1000ETH'!
