Weekend Warm-Up: Platinum Passes and podcasts (plus a pop quiz!)

What you missed on PokerStars this week. Weirdly, they all begin with P....

Platinum Pass: a new winner in London
PokerStars Festival London plays on
Prize money: just how much?
Podcast: a new episode!
PokerStars Championship Cash Challenge: Episode 3

Dragos Trofimov becomes the latest Platinum Pass winner

Picture the scene. In the early hours of this morning a town mayor, somewhere in Moldova, the news having woken him in the middle of the night, climbs the clock tower in the town square to ring the bell, the glorious signal that one of their own, in this case Dragos Trofimov, just won a Platinum Pass and a ticket to the PSPC in the Bahamas next January.

The latest Platinum Pass winner: Dragos Trofimov

Okay, that might sound like it comes straight from the Disney play book, but imagine!

The point is that we get excited around here when a Platinum Pass is presented to a new winner, as it was yesterday at the PokerStars Festival in London.

It went to Trofimov, a 24-year-old Chemistry student, who won the Festival's High Roller event late last night. Needless to say, he was delighted.

Our team was on hand to record the moment, with words, pictures and video, all of which you can see here. Trofimov's reaction is terrific.

Meanwhile at the PokerStars Festival London

All of which serves as a reminder that the Festival is still ongoing in London, with Friday marking the start of Day 1C and Day 1D, before Day 2 plays out tomorrow, and a winner is declared late on Sunday.

If you're in London, there's still plenty of time to register. If you prefer to watch this one from the sidelines our team is ring side at The Hippodrome in London's West End, bringing live updates all day, which you can find here.

It concludes with a winner on Sunday who, in addition to the title and a significant first prize, will also win a Platinum Pass worth $30,000 to the PokerStars Players Championship in January 2019. We'll have all the news on that front on the Blog also.

How much has PokerStars awarded in Prize money to date?

A good question, and as if by coincidence we have the answer.

Information was sent to us about this exact point just this week. We have three numbers, and hey it's Friday, let's make a game of it.

The first number is $255,031,267. That's the amount awarded across all PokerStarsLive events in 2017.

The second number is one of the three choices below and it's for the grand total of PokerStarsLive events, up to the end of 2017.

Is it:

A) $987,619,223.12
B) $1,076,545,389.78
C) $1,511,652,954.85

Scroll down for the answer. No rushing ahead. There are podcast and video things to read about first...

Poker In The Ears

After yet another unscheduled break (further apologies), the boys are back with their first episode of 2018, and a renewed commitment to make the podcast a weekly affair! James and Joe discuss how #PCA2018 has occupied their lives for the last few weeks. They recap the event, with the assistance of Lex Veldhuis from Team Pro Online, who joined the commentary team for the epic #PokerStarsTV live stream from the Bahamas.

There are also details of the first $500 #PokerInTheEars freeroll, and Jack Scullion from Cornwall in the UK competes for a satellite ticket and mini chip set in 'Superfan vs Stapes'. Please don't forget to rate, review and subscribe to the show.

Episode 3 of the Cash Challenge

We told you there was video, and this week it's in the form of Episode 3 of the PokerStars Championship Cash Challenge.

We wrote about the latest episode here, but let's cut to the chase. You can watch the video below.

Nearly forgot, the answer to our trivia question is C) $1,511,652,954.85. That figure goes up to $1,766,684,221.85 from day one of PokerStars, to now, which was quite rightly described as "whopping" by the person who sent us the information.

That's all for this week. Check the Blog on Monday for all the stories from the weekend on PokerStars.
