EPT12 Barcelona: Enter Neymar Jr
Poker is not a natural spectator sport, which is a shame, because today more than ever there is something people are going to want to watch.
It's Day 1B of the Main Event, a day that typically attracts the larger share of the players the bigger share of the stars. But it will not be the Main Event that shines brightest today. That will be the €25,000 buy in, single day high roller, which just started. Because arguably that contains the biggest star - Neymar Jr - making his live PokerStars debut.
It's got a few people excited, particular anyone thinking he might emulate the start he made on PokerStars last week, during which he reached two final tables and scored a royal flush along the way. Today he'll see if he can carry that into the live arena, and if not have some fun along the way.
So if you've got €25,000 and are looking for a game, this one might be an event to think about.
What's more, while he tries to mimic the day job of staying up front, his team mate at FC Barcelona Gerard Pique will be hoping to do much the same, and be right behind him. Both love their poker, and both are loved in this city they call home, which might explain the influx of cameras and media this afternoon. Even with the added security, the couple of extra barriers, and the no spectator rule, this place is about to start buzzing.
So while you can't watch it from a few feet away, you can at least follow our updates on the PokerStars Blog and on Twitter, where we'll bring details of their progress. And if a royal flush comes along again be ready with the Vamos.
