Maven Awards recognize industry leaders in women's poker

Women corner logo.jpgThe Maven Awards are presented each year to companies or individuals who advance the recognition and accomplishments of women in poker. Under the auspices of Woman Poker Player Magazine (www.womanpokerplayer.com) the categories are nominated and then voted on by the public. Last year's nominations included thirteen categories as diverse as humanitarian and inspirational awards to more achievement oriented categories. The winners in each category were chosen by over 12,000 voters and the winners were announced in May.

PokerStars was proud to be the recipient of the award for the category closest to our heart--"Most Female-Friendly Online Poker Site." It was a huge honor to receive recognition for our efforts to bring more women into the game in a comfortable, friendly environment. That commitment to providing a female-friendly environment has continued throughout the last year as PokerStars Women has sponsored major tournaments around the world (London, Madrid, and the Bahamas) where female players have competed against each other to win huge prizes. In addition, PokerStars has launched the very successful Women's Poker League and now holds a Women's Sunday tournament that is part of the Sunday Majors. It has been a good year for women in poker and a good year for PokerStars to lead the charge in promoting women in poker.

In addition to the Most Friendly Poker Site award, PokerStars Team Pro members Vanessa Rousso and Vanessa Selbst also received Maven Awards. Vanessa Rousso was voted Player of the Year and also won in the category of Most Appealing Marketing Campaign Aimed at Women for her Big Slick Boot Camp. Vanessa Selbst won for Best Up and Coming Player and has certainly proved to be deserving of that with her huge successes throughout the last year.
