Women's Sunday: GirlsRulez' trip eights earn trip to the Bahamas

PS Women logo.jpgExactly a week before Christmas, PokerStars played the role of Santa at the December 18th Women's Sunday. The victor of the $10,000 guaranteed weekly tournament would also earn a package worth $3250 to the PCA Ladies Event in the Bahamas.

The prize pool smashed the guarantee:

Total players: 389
Prize pool: $19,450.00
Paid finishers: 63

Further stuffing PokerStars player stockings were five $50 bounties on members of Team PokerStars Pro.

h3l3nz earned the first bounty of the day against Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander with 8♥ 7♥ against K♥ T♥. Miss_Hench [Ac Qs] took down Team Pro Liv Boeree's A♠ K♦ and her bounty when a queen came on the river. Fatima De Melo of the Netherlands lost most of her chips with pocket tens against quirkysmug08's aces while LLc2010 snagged the official bounty with pocket eights against Fatima's ace-king.

Hand-for-hand lasted only two hands as bubble girl mariale_1990 of Venezuela's A♣ 6♦ came up short against pan1991's 8♥ A♥. The eight played when the board ran 4♦ 2♥ A♠ J♠ T♦.

Adrienne "Talonchick" Rowsome of Canada and Ana Marquez of Spain were still alive when the money bubble burst, but both had relatively few chips. Talonchick was eliminated in 60th place for $85.58 by XrealStickyX. Ana Marquez ended in 45th for a 97.25 prize when her pocket tens fell to A♣ 9♣. Other notable cashers included Maryann "gamblegoddes" Morrison (30th place), editor of Woman Poker Player Magazine and Canadian pro Courtney "courtiebee" Gee (40th place), who appeared in the PokerStars Big Game.

The field whittled down quickly up till Ira_161 of Russia's elimination in 10th place, bringing us our final table:

XRealStickyX of Ireland entered the Final Table as chipleader but a few hands in, GirlsRulez of Slovakia took a huge pot down against Gerdultye without showdown, handing her the chip lead.

Yaliel of Mexico eliminated Slatchh of Belgium in 9th place when her pair of tens held against ace-queen. Slatchh took home $322.87 for her efforts.

Lexi4Bet's K♥ J♦ knocked out both Zumb@Girl A♣ 9♣ and slob43.ru's A♥ Qs] when the board ran out 4♠ 6♣ 5♦ 4♥ K♦ Slob43.ru earned $437.62 while Zumba@girl danced away with $632.12.

The next dramatic KO saw XrealstickyX shoving all in on a 9♣ 6♥ T♣ flop with K♦ Q♣. She was drawing to a jack or a queen when girlsrulez called with K♣ T♥. No help came and XrealstickyX ended in sixth place for a $826.62 payday.

This left girlsrulez as our massive chipleader five-handed, with more chips than all the other players combined!

Gerdulyte got short in a dramatic hand in which she, yaliel and Lexi4Bet were all in-preflop. Gredultye showed A♣ J♠, yaliel had KK while Lexi4Bet had the other two kings! The board ran 6♣ 2♣ Q♠ T♠ and Gerdultye was drawing to an ace---or a king, if only any remained in the deck! The 5♦ changed nothing, leaving Gerdultye crippled. She lost the rest of her chips to Lexi4Bet and received $1069.75 for fifth place.

Four-handed, NidaleePower shoved first to act with Q♦ Q♠ and was called instantly by Lexi4Bet, who showed K♦ A♥. The queens looked good on the 9♥ J♣ 8♦ flop but the king on the turn turned the tables and NidaleePower was eliminated in 4th for $1517.10.

GirlsRulez continued her aggressive game and managed to increase her stack to over 800,000 three-handed, mostly without showdown.

Meanwhile, Lexi4Bet and Yaleil tangled in a key hand. Lexi4Bet raised on the button and yaliel shoved in the big blind. Lexi4Bet called and showed J♦ K♣ to yaliel's T♠ T♥. Yaliel won the race to cripple Lexi4Bet, who was out in third for $1993.62 a few hands later.

The heads-up match began with a huge chip lead for GirlsRulez of Slovakia, but yalei narrowed the gap early in the match. The stakes were higher than ever. The added PCA prize package for first meant that these two were playing for over $4,000 worth of value.

In a fateful hand, yaliel raised on the button and GirlRulez called. GirlRulez check called yaliel's bets on a A♣ 8♠ 8♣ flop and 6♠ turn. On the 7♣ river, the 21-year-old Slovakian checked yet again. This time yaliel shoved all in and girlsrulez called, showing 9♣ 8♥ good for trips against yaliel's J♥ A♥. Yaliel of Mexico had to console herself with the $2723.00 second place prize while Girlsrulez won $3695.61, and a PCA Women's weekend package worth $3250.

After the tournament, GirlsRulez, whose real name is Lucia Melicherová, checked in briefly with Women's Poker Hour. Lucia, who described her own game as "aggro" is looking forward to her trip from Slovakia to the Bahamas for the PCA. But first, "A big party this weekend."
