PokerStars Women's Poker League: December Winners & 2011 Honorees

League logo.jpgHappy New Year! As everyone celebrates the dawn of 2012, we must make sure to honor those who excelled in 2011. The Women's Poker League wound down its year of tournaments in two divisions, and we not only have the December cash prize winners, but we can announce the yearly winners as well.

The first year of the Women's Poker League found some superstar players who consistently did well by earning enough points to appear in the top 10 quite regularly. There were also some breakout players who didn't have time to play each month but made their presences known by storming on to the leaderboard when they could.

And in 2012, there are big things happening for the WPL! There will be a $5.50 division added to the two existing leagues, and players will have more opportunities to freeroll into the league events, as well as find tournaments at times that are convenient for them. Check out the changes for 2012 in this article. It all starts on January 3!

Let's look first at the December league winners and their prizes:

Division 1: $1.10 League

The halfway mark of December saw sapatova91 off to another roaring start with 106 points, and her fellow Peruvian @Mapicienta was in second place. Madzia36 was close behind, as was paoo20 and #1woman. But as the month progressed, #1woman soared into the top spot, along with laimee, both of whom had 150 points just days before the end of the month. Sapatova91 fell into third place, and @Mapicienta left the top 10 completely.

When the month was over, it was Canada in the top two spots, with laimee taking first place with 170 points and #1 woman holding a strong second with 152. Babkatlapka of the Czech Republic came out of nowhere to take third place with 131 points, followed by sapatova91 of Peru and Olgamax of Russia.

Division 2: $.10 League

It was clear by the many people within the same point range at the 15th of December that it was anyone's game. Flopqueen1 of Ukraine was on top with 83 points, followed by Artemis236 of Germany with 76 and Action1888 of Canada with 73. But as the weeks went on, electritizz took over the first spot with 143 points, just one point ahead of Artemis236. Flopqueen1 fell into third, and Action1888 was moved to fifth.

The final numbers showed that electritizz of Canada was able to stay in first place, ending with 150 points. Artemis236 held firmly in second with 145, and KleopatraRTS of Poland made her rise to third place with 144. Action1888 ended her run in fourth, and flopqueen1 took fifth.

2011 Overall Winners

There were big prizes at stake for the players who could keep up the momentum throughout the year and end it with the most points for each league. The winner of each division is to be awarded a PokerStars Women Live prize package for the trip of their choice, and big cash prizes will be given to the other top finishers, with the top 100 in each division winning something.

Congratulations to Bertie867 of Canada and SARITA15350 of Spain for winning the $1.10 and $.10 leagues, respectively! We should also give honorable mention to those who made both lists. KleopatraRTS finished second in both divisions - WOW! - and maadcaroma and tjumpy finished in the top 10 in both divisions.
