AAnyaLucKK combines skill and luck for Women's Sunday victory
The first day of September brings much excitement, especially with the 2013 World Championship of Online Poker just around the corner. By this time next weekend, WCOOP players will be involved in big pots and looking at massive prize pools.
There is $40 million guaranteed over the course of the 66 tournaments. You read that correctly. $40 MILLION.
You can get some of that cash. Satellites are running around the clock on PokerStars, which makes almost every event affordable if you win your seats. In addition to the massive amounts of prize money up for grabs, there's the annual Leader Board competition. Not only will the overall winner receive tons of online poker tournament tickets and a 2014 PCA prize package, the top-finishing Woman of the Series will win a $3,500 PCA Ladies Event prize package! Details on the Women's WCOOP page.
The first day of September also brought an exciting Women's Sunday. After last week's win by Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome - on a boat, no less! - there were a lot of players vying for this week's title:
Total players: 230
Prize pool: $11,500.00
Paid finishers: 36
Talonchick was in the field again this week, again with a $50 bounty on her head, but she wasn't able to keep it this time. She was eliminated in the first hour of play because, well, she wasn't on a boat this week.
The money bubble burst before the three-hour mark of the tournament, and play moved forward until only two tables remained about 30 minutes later. Play moved forward, and during hand-for-hand action, SandritaS_1 doubled through durrr085, leaving the latter on a short stack. Durrr085 was all-in on the next hand holding 9♥3♠, and Daren4809 was all-in with K♣6♥. KwinYeh had them both covered with Q♥8♥, which only improved on the T♥Q♣3♣4♦A♥ board. Durrr085 exited in 11th place, and Daren4809 was out in tenth, each taking home $184.00.
AAnyaLucKK ahead by a thread
When the final table got underway, the players' chip counts were as follows:
Seat 1: KwinYeh (96,185 in chips)
Seat 2: SandritaS_1 (64,206 in chips)
Seat 3: Owelie (99,149 in chips)
Seat 4: Missmirandaa (78,471 in chips)
Seat 5: negrrra (51,029 in chips)
Seat 6: lunanina (65,241 in chips)
Seat 7: mmmeggs (50,317 in chips)
Seat 8: kashtone (85,884 in chips)
Seat 9: AAnyaLucKK (99,518 in chips)
It didn't take long for big action to develop at the last table of the tournament. The second hand saw mmmeggs push all-in for just less than 50K chips with Q♣Q♦, and original raiser negrrra calledwith K♠K♥. Nothing about the board of 8♦T♦3♣4♣7♠ changed anything, and mmmeggs was out of the event in ninth place with $218.50.
Lunanina then took a sizeable lead over the group by doubling through kashtone:
On the very next hand, kashtone was all-in for 893 chips with Q♣9♠, and AAnyaLucKK raised to isolate, which worked. AAnyaLucKK showed A♦4♣, and she stayed ahead as the dealer revealed 5♠3♥T♥A♥7♣. Kashtone exited in eighth place with $287.50.
AAnyaLucKK then scored a huge double through negrrra to regain the top spot on the leaderboard. Negrrra, however, was on a short stack and moved all-in on the next hand with A♦4♣. KwinYeh reraised from the button to isolate, and the blinds folded. KwinYeah turned over K♣K♦, and that hand only improved to top two pair on the J♦7♠3♣7♥3♦. Negrrra was out of the tournament in seventh place with $402.50.
KwinYeh then doubled through Owelie, but AAnyaLucKK took a pot worth 192,300 chips from KwinYeah to extend her lead. Owelie then doubled through KwinYeh to stay in action, and the latter was reduced to the shortest stack.
Owelie then caught this sizeable double-up through Missmirandaa:
A few hands later, Missmirandaa pushed her short stack all-in with 6♣6♠ against AAnyaLucKK and Owelie. After the 4♠3♦8♠ flop and K♠ turn, AAnyaLucKK bet, and Owelie folded. AAnyaLucKK showed K♦9♦ and garnered K♥ on the river for trip kings. Missmirandaa was eliminated in sixth place with $517.50.
As soon as player returned from the 4.5-hour break, SandritaS_1 moved all-in with A♦Q♦ for less than 34K, and AAnyaLucKK called from the big blind with 5♦4♦. The board came A♠K♥5♥4♥J♠, and the two pair eliminated AAnyaLucKK in fifth place with $667.00.
Lunanina doubled through KwinYeh, and the latter was left with less than 3K chips. KwinYeh used those chips on the next hand with 7♦5♥, and AAnyaLucKK challenged with 6♥6♦. The board came 3♣Q♣6♠2♠K♠ to solidify the win for AAnyaLucKK, and KwinYeh was gone in fourth place with $977.50.
Three-handed play was serious poker, and lunanina doubled through AAnyaLucKK to make things interesting. But a few hands later, AAnyaLucKK took a pot worth more than 245K chips from lunanina to further her chip lead.
Lunanina then tangled with AAnyaLucKK again, this time to see a raised flop of 9♠6♣6♠. Lunanina bet all-in with T♥9♦, but AAnyaLucKK called with K♥6♦ for trip sixes. The 8♥ turn and T♦ river ended the tournament for lunanina, who took home $1,299.50 for third place.
AAnyaLucKK leads heads-up
The chip counts going into the final battle were:
Seat 3: Owelie (155,436 in chips)
Seat 9: AAnyaLucKK (534,564 in chips)
Owelie did make some hard-fought progress, climbing slowly but surely above the 200K mark. However, AAnyaLucKK stayed aggressive, and Owelie lost ground. Finally, Owelie pushed her 118,460-chip stack all-in with 3♠3♦, and AAnyaLucKK called with J♣J♥. The board of A♦9♠2♣Q♥8♣ changed nothing, and Owelie had to accept second place.
Congrats to AAnyaLucKK of Belarus for her Women's Sunday victory and $2,351.75!
