K1R5TY14 conquers June 16 Women's Sunday

Sometimes, players inquire as to the need for PokerStars Women. But even more often, people wonder why there aren't more women in poker. The head of PS Women explained that in this post, with the help of a giant pink bunny.

One of the ways that PS Women has allowed more women to get comfortable in the game of online poker and enjoy the benefits of fun tournaments is by offering the Women's Sunday. It's an environment comprised of women only, and players are able to satellite in for the chance to increase their bankrolls by a few thousand dollars if they win. They also receive some kudos on the blog with these tournament recaps. Players continue to come back - week after week - for many of these reasons.

And that brings us to this week's event. The $55 Women's Sunday offered a $10K guarantee and again surpassed that with a solid field:

Total players: 221
Guarantee: $10,000.00
Prize pool: $11,050.00
Paid finishers: 36

Though some of the female Team Pros are busy with tournaments in Macau and Las Vegas, Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander jumped into the action with a $50 bounty on her head. And one lucky player took it by busting her in 154th place today.

The rest of the women aimed for the money portion of the event, and that bubble burst before the three-hour mark so the final 36 players could receive cash for their efforts. By the 3.5-hour mark, there were two tables remaining, and the run for the final table was on. And about a half hour later, hand-for-hand play brought a hand in which mamalice pushed her short stack all-in with A♦K♦ from the small blind, and ElfinDance called from the big blind with J♦6♥. The board came 6♦7♣J♥K♣9♠ for two pair, and mamalice exited in tenth place with $176.80.

Pipiret pulls ahead at final table start

It was the last few minutes of Level 18, with blinds at 1,250/2,500 and a 250 ante, that the final table got underway. The players and their corresponding chip stacks were as follows:

Seat 1: ElfinDance (67,041 in chips)
Seat 2: Ch1uh@n (81,718 in chips)
Seat 3: joannajo111 (31,784 in chips)
Seat 4: pipiret (118,092 in chips)
Seat 5: DianaSvensk (64,205 in chips)
Seat 6: LuxoR_C (66,789 in chips)
Seat 7: ChikenGuska (81,903 in chips)
Seat 8: K1R5TY14 (68,890 in chips)
Seat 9: booninc345 (82,578 in chips)

It only took a few hands for short-stacked joannajo111 to get involved in a big hand with K1R5TY14. The reraised flop came J♣K♠2♥, and a bet from K1R5TY14 brought an all-in call from joannajo111 holding A♥T♦. K1R5TY14 showed A♣K♦ for top pair, and the 2♣ on the turn made it into two pair. Joannajo111 didn't make her straight on the 8♦ river and had to depart in ninth place with $209.95.

Pipiret began to lose her grip on the chip lead when ElfinDance took a pot from her worth more than 110K. But then Ch1uh@n scored this double through ElfinDance to jump toward the top of the leaderboard, just behind K1R5TY14:

ChikenGuska, who finished third in this event two weeks ago, needed a double-up in order to better than performance. So, ChikenGuska pushed all-in preflop with A♥K♥, and K1R5TY14 called with T♣T♠. The race was on, and the J♥Q♠4♣ flop gave ChikenGuska even more outs with the straight draw. But neither the 8♦ turn nor Q♣ river were enough, and ChikenGuska exited in eighth place this week for $276.25.

Pipiret finally pushed all-in in an attempt to recover some chips, making the move with A♠J♦ from the big blind after a raise from K1R5TY14. The latter called with K♣K♥, which held up to the 2♦5♦6♥Q♠5♠ board. Pipiret was eliminated in seventh place with $386.75.

ElfinDance was a bit short but doubled through booninc345 to stay in action. But then DianaSvensk scored a big double through ElfinDance here:

ElfinDance then pushed all-in soon after with T♣6♣, and K1R5TY14 called from the big blind with K♥3♦. That king kicker played when the board blanked with A♣2♦Q♥5♦5♥, and ElfinDance was out in sixth place with $497.25.

LuxoR_C, who finished fifth in this event just three weeks ago, sought a double-up when she moved all-in from the small blind with A♦7♠. K1R5TY14 called from the big blind with A♠Q♣, and that kicker played as well when the board revealed 6♠8♦9♦6♥J♣. LuxoR_C exited in fifth place again, this time for $640.90.

On the very next hand, booninc345 risked her stack with A♦5♠ against the A♣9♥ of DianaSvensk but caught no help on the 2♣6♦3♥K♥Q♣ board. That left booninc345 out in fourth place with $939.25.

Tough three-handed play

Ch1uh@n doubled through DianaSvensk and then through K1R5TY14, and the latter did the same through DianaSvensk.

That left DianaSvensk on the shortest of the three stacks, and she moved all-in with 6♥6♣ after an initial raise from Ch1uh@n, who called with A♥Q♥. The flop of K♠J♥Q♦ gave Ch1uh@n the pair of queens and straight draw, and though the 3♥ on the turn changed nothing, the T♦ on the river only completed that straight. DianaSvensk departed in third place with $1,248.65.

No sure thing in this heads-up match

The final two players began the final portion of the tournament with these stacks:

Seat 2: Ch1uh@n (470,338 in chips)
Seat 8: K1R5TY14 (192,662 in chips)

But only four hands into the action, K1R5TY14 found her opportunity to change things:

Though the two continued a tough battle back and forth, it was K1R5TY14 who managed to keep her momentum and take it through. Ch1uh@n finally took a chance.

The hand started with a raise from Ch1uh@n, reraise from K1R5TY14, and call to see the 9♦7♦4♣ flop. K1R5TY14 bet, and Ch1uh@n raised all-in for little more than 200K chips with K♦7♥ for middle pair. K1R5TY14 called with T♠T♥ and the overpair, however, which held up to the J♦ turn and 9♥ river. Ch1uh@n had to settle for second place and $1,657.50.

K1R5TY14 overcame a heads-up chip deficit and won the tournament for $2,259.83. Congrats!
