Kapilence captures April 7 Women's Sunday title

The women of PokerStars have more options than ever for exclusive tournaments. They ask for more events, and we try to accommodate.

For example, March's Omaha Week prompted the establishment of two new PLO tournaments for women only. The Thursday event is at 15:00 ET, requires a $5.50 buy-in, and offers a satellite to get into the PLO action at a bargain price. And on Sundays, there is a $1.10 PLO tournament at 15:15 ET. Turnout has been solid for both weeklies so far.

And today was the debut of the Women's Nightly Special, an $8.80 NLHE (9-handed) tournament for players in the Americas who requested a later event and full tables. This will be held every night, and though it's starting with a $150 guarantee, this will be adjusted if the players show their interest.

Meanwhile, we still have our weekly Women's Tuesday and daily Women's Special events, for which details can be found on our PS Women page.

And here we are at the $55 Women's Sunday, which garnered a very nice turnout on this first Sunday in April:

Total players: 294
Guarantee: $10,000.00
Prize pool: $14,700.00
Paid finishers: 45

The money bubble burst just before the three-hour mark of the tournament, allowing skynet777 to be the first player to cash for $88.20 today. Play moved forward with a bounty still in the mix, as Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander was short-stacked but determined with four tables left, and then three. She then doubled through Cathenzita to climb into safer chip territory.

With only two tables remaining, Sjlot lost ground but doubled through kapilence to jump back to the top half of the leaderboard. Meanwhile, Xuan "xx23xx" Liu eliminated two players in consecutive hands to climb into first place.

The final table bubble was tense and took more than a few minutes. Sjlot was on the short stack for much of that time but doubled through D_Mermaid to sit more comfortably. On the other table, Yuliya82 pushed all-in preflop with A♠K♣, and original raiser jam3s1nlove called with K♦Q♥. The board came 4♠Q♠7♠J♦8♣ for the pair, which eliminated Yuliya82 in tenth place with $220.50.

Xuan "xx23xx" Liu leads

The final table was set in Level 20, with blinds of 2,000/4,000 and a 400 ante, along with these players' starting stacks:

Seat 1: xx23xx (219,747 in chips)
Seat 2: Jennyfer992 (123,017 in chips)
Seat 3: lisyjade (60,535 in chips)
Seat 4: kassike (129,815 in chips)
Seat 5: kragpoth (50,598 in chips)
Seat 6: jam3s1nlove (127,456 in chips)
Seat 7: D_Mermaid (56,074 in chips)
Seat 8: Sjlot (70,528 in chips)
Seat 9: kapilence (44,230 in chips)

On the fourth hand, D_Mermaid got involved with UTG raiser kapilence. D_Mermaid called from the small blind, and the flop came 8♦3♥T♥. D_Mermaid then moved all-in with Q♠T♠ for top pair, but kapilence called with 8♥8♠ for the set. The A♥ turn and 4♠ river cards officially sent D_Mermaid swimming away in ninth place with $257.25.

Just after the 4.5-hour break, kragpoth hit a big double through xx23xx to jump into second place:

No double win for kassike

Kassike was the only player at the table with a previous Women's Sunday win, having claimed her victory less than a year ago. But she struggled at this final table, ultimately pushing all-in with T♥T♠ from middle position after xx23xx raised UTG. Jam3s1nlove reraised all-in, which prompted a fold from xx23xx, and jam3s1nlove showed A♠K♠. The flop of 5♠K♦6♦ gave jam3s1nlove top pair, and that held up to the 7♦ turn and 3♠ river. Kassike was out in eighth place with $352.80.

Sjlot decided to take a chance on her short stack, moving all-in from the small blind with 40,328 chips and 8♦8♣. Original raiser xx23xx called with A♥J♥ and hit the flop of K♠9♣J♦. Nothing helped Sjlot on the 2♥ turn or 6♠, and Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander had to leave in seventh place with $499.80 in cash.

With that pot and a 115K pot from kapilence, xx23xx had moved back into a solid first place.

A big hand developed as kragpoth started with a small blind raise and jam3s1nlove reraised all-in from the big blind. Kragpoth called all-in for 89,240 chips with 5♠5♦, and jam3s1nlove looked like the underdog with 4♣4♥. But then came the flop of 4♠9♥8♦ for the set of fours. And the 8♥ on the turn created a full house. The 3♥ simply eliminated kragpoth in sixth place with $646.80.

Not long after lisyjade doubled through Jennyfer992, the latter was down to less than 40K chips and made her move from the small blind holding K♣Q♣. Original raiser jam3s1nlove called with A♦9♥ and watched as the full house came (again!) on the A♣A♥T♥7♦T♠ board. Jennyfer992 had to leave in fifth place with $837.90.

With that jam3s1nlove had the chip lead, but xx23xx battled her for a pot worth more than 116K, won it, and retook the lead.

Lisyjade was the next player to move all-in, doing it with K♠4♠, and jam3s1nlove reraised all-in to isolate with A♠8♦, which worked. The board brought hope but no results with 9♠3♠T♦Q♦Q♣, and the ace kicker played to eliminate lisyjade in fourth place with $1,212.75.

And then, kapilence took a risk that paid off in this double through xx23xx:

As kapilence simply dominated and climbed over the 600K chip mark, xx23xx lost ground but did score a double through jam3s1nlove to stay in action. Xx23xx then doubled through kapilence, but jam3s1nlove doubled through xx23xx. The latter doubled through kapilence again, but jam3s1nlove did it through xx23xx again!

A few hands later, xx23xx pushed all-in for little more than 80K chips with K♠Q♠, and kapilence called with 6♠6♦. The board came 2♦A♦3♠J♦4♠, and that allowed the sixes to hold up. Xuan "xx23xx" Liu, who took second nearly one year ago in a Women's Sunday, finished in third place this week for $1,617.00.

Kapilence controls heads-up

The starting counts for the heads-up match were as follows:

Seat 6: jam3s1nlove (290,596 in chips)
Seat 9: kapilence (591,404 in chips)

On the eight hand of heads-up, jam3s1nlove had chipped up only slightly from her starting stack. That hand then began with a raise from kapilence, reraise from jam3s1nlove, and all-in move from kapilence. Jam3s1nlove called all-in with 7♠7♣, and kapilence showed A♣9♠. The flop came T♥J♦K♣ with a straight draw for kapilence, and the Q♠ on the turn made that straight. The 4♣ on the river officially gave jam3s1nlove the second place finish and $2,131.50 that went with it.

Kapilence of Serbia won her first Women's Sunday title and $3,844.45 in cash. Congrats!
