Szumieniak of Poland sizzles, wins last Women's Sunday of October
The Women's Sunday continues to be a staple on the online poker tournament calendar. Every woman has her own motivation for playing the $55 weekend tournament, and Team SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo is no different. Hear what she had to say about the Women's Sunday:
If you'd like to join the crowd next week, check out all of the satellites listed on the tournament's home page.
This week, the $10K guarantee was overshot again by an even bigger prize pool:
Total players: 224
Prize pool: $11,200.00
Paid finishers: 36
There were two members of Team PokerStars in action again this week, each with a $50 bounty for anyone who could eliminate them from the tournament. Team Online's Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome gave up her bounty when she finished in 93rd place, but Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander made a deeper run. She finally busted in 23rd place for $95.20.
After that bubble burst at the three-hour mark, play moved on to the final two tables and then to the final table bubble in less than an hour. Play moved very quickly to find that last table of players, and hand-for-hand play found jam3s1nlove all-in with K♠6♠ against the K♣J♣ of VVVictorYYY. The board of 9♠3♥2♣2♥K♥ changed nothing, and the kicker played to eliminate jam3s1nlove in tenth place with $179.20.
Solid starting lead for szumieniak
Final table play began in Level 18, with blinds at 1,250/2,500 and a 250 ante, along with these players and their corresponding chip counts:
Seat 1: jlamb1234 (48,752 in chips)
Seat 2: Trymean77 (46,190 in chips)
Seat 3: folitsa (65,278 in chips)
Seat 4: Makula 86 (127,651 in chips)
Seat 5: dontbesad01 (104,003 in chips)
Seat 6: VVVictorYYY (44,706 in chips)
Seat 7: aneliv9 (52,272 in chips)
Seat 8: El_Porqu3 (26,996 in chips)
Seat 9: szumieniak (156,152 in chips)
Jlamb1234 started strong and began chipping up. And then she made an all-in move from the small blind with A♣K♦. Trymean77 called from the big blind all-in with A♠7♣ but couldn't improve enough on the 2♥A♦K♠Q♠Q♥ board. That left TryMean77 out in ninth place with $212.80.
Dontbesad01 scored a huge double-up through Makula 86 to take the chip lead, and that left Makula86 on a very short stack. Two hands later, Makula 86 pushed her last 48 chips all-in with 9♥7♠, and dontbesad01 raised to isolate, which worked, with T♣4♠. The board came 8♣Q♥T♥2♠9♠, and the pair of tens eliminated Makula 86 from the tournament in eighth place, which was worth $280.00.
El_Porqu3 was very short but doubled through aneliv9 to stay in action. But on the very next hand, El_Porqu3 pushed all-in again from the big blind with A♠8♠. Original button raiser VVVictorYYY called with 9♠8♣ but made a straight as the board delivered 7♥5♠A♦J♥T♠. El_Porqu3 departed in seventh place with $392.00.
Jlamb1234 was on the rise and doubled through chip leader dontbesad01 in this hand:
Aneliv9 was the next player at risk. She pushed all-in with 6♣5♦ for less than 21K chips, and szumieniak called with K♦K♠. The board of A♥3♥7♦Q♥Q♦ eliminated aneliv9 in sixth place for $504.00.
Folitsa made her move a few hans later, starting with an UTG raise. When VVVictorYYY reraised, folitsa responded by moving all-in with T♠T♥, but VVVictoryyY called quickly with K♦K♠. The flop of J♦9♥Q♠ offered outs for folitsa, but the Q♥ turn and 2♠ river dashed all hopes, sending folitsa out in fifth place with $649.60.
Two hands later, dontbesad01 moved all-in for 58,025 chips from the small blind with Q♠4♣, but VVVictorYYY called from the big blind with 5♥5♣. The dealer provided 7♥K♥A♥3♥Q♦, and VVVictorYYY made a flush to eliminate dontbesad01 in fourth place for $952.00.
At the 4.5-hour break, VVVictorYYY led the pack with over 300K chips, followed by jlamb1234 with more than 215K, and the short stack was szumieniak with little over 156K. But that all changed when they returned to the table. Szumieniak doubled through jlamb1234, who then doubled back through szumieniak twice to take the chip lead. But szumieniak doubled back through jlamb1234. Let's just say this pace continued for more than a few hands.
But jlamb1234 suffered and was eventually reduced to a stack of little more than 23K chips. She pushed all-in with K♠Q♣, and szumieniak called with T♣4♠. But the board of 7♠4♣3♦6♠6♥ gave szumieniak two pair, and jlamb1234 exited in third place with $1,265.60.
Heads-up for victory
The last two players began the heads-up match with these counts:
Seat 6: VVVictorYYY (109,502 in chips)
Seat 9: szumieniak (562,498 in chips)
And it only took nine hands. Szumieniak began it with a raise, and when VVVictorYYY reraised, szumieniak pushed all-in with A♥4♦. VVVictorYYY called all-in with a dominating A♦9♠, but the flop brought K♦T♠4♥ to give szumieniak the best hand. The K♣ and 2♦ finished the board and left VVVictorYYY out in second place with $1,680.00.
