Women's Sunday Second Birthday: not your typical two-year-old bash
A typical two-year-old's birthday celebration is full of cake, presents, and admiring friends and relatives. Unfortunately, the celebrations are often cut short when the ear-splitting screams, chaos, and early nap times ensue. Sometimes, there's a creepy clown around to add to the overall agitated ambiance.
PokerStars Women's Birthday Special on Sunday, March 24, promises to deliver in a big way on the first part with lots of cake (virtual, though it may be), presents (prizes), and admiring friends and relatives (lots of Team PokerStars Pros on hand). You can breathe a sigh of relief in knowing, however, that no early nap times will be required, and the only ear-splitting screams and chaos that might occur will be from the lucky winners at the final table. As an added bonus, absolutely no clowns will be involved.
The upcoming big bash for the Women's Sunday includes everything from freerolls and satellites to a live YouTube 'Hangout' on the Internet. Along the way, there's even a chance to win a free seat to the big event by submitting a photo commemorating the celebration.
It's all to celebrate the second year of a $55 Women's Sunday tournament that has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception. The first tournament had 207 entries with a $5,000 guarantee but doubled that prize pool in its first outing with a stunning final total of $10,350.00. The tournament featured Vanessa Selbst and Liv Boeree from the Team Pro ranks, along with several poker writers (myself included) and 2011 PCA Women's Event winner, Kristin Bihr.
The Women's Sunday now has a $10,000 guarantee, and many players qualify by participating in the low buy-in satellites running throughout the week, or in the freerolls offered weekly. There are many regulars in the tournaments, and some of them return every Sunday to play the tournament they look forward to all week. As Katie Dozier put it in a recent interview by Jennifer Newell, "The Women's Sunday has a low rake and a fantastic structure. Additionally, I enjoy the camaraderie in the tournament. Women will often chat, and it feels wonderful to see so many women as excited as I am about playing!"
Other Women's Sunday regulars include Jacqueline Garvie and Kristine Zakaite (also featured in the previous article), along with players like luzzzy, who won the first Women's Sunday and recently pulled off a second win featured here. Another regular is HUSTLheR0, who has also won seats to two PokerStars Women Live events in London and the PCA in the Bahamas. Cardkahleesi, another Women's Sunday regular, tells about her transition from leisure player to serious player here.
