Frenchman Remi Castaignon snatched back the EPT Deauville title from foreign hands when he beat Lebanese tour regular Walid Bou Habib heads-up to win €770,000, becoming the eighth Frenchman to win an EPT Main Event. Castaignon and Bou Habib had come into the final first and second in chips and, despite some early heavy losses, both converted those starting stacks into a heads-up finish. Read the full tournament report here and the payouts here.
Castaignon joins the European roll of honour alongside countrymen Pascal Perrault (Vienna, Season 1), Jan Boubli (Barcelona, Season 2), Arnaud Mattern (Prague, Season 4), Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier (PCA, Season 4) Christophe Benzimra (Warsaw, Season 6), Lucien Cohen (Deauville, Season 7) and Ludov Lacay (Sanremo, Season 9).
* Online crusher Vojtech Rusicka took a maiden EPT trophy with a €313,000 win in the €10,300 High Roller beating American Tim Reilly heads-up.
* Castaignon and Ruzicka weren't the only winners. We have all the results and final table wraps of all side events right here. Side event winners included former EPT champs Anton Wigg, Zimnan Ziyard and Kent Lundmark.
* EPTLive started its webcast from Day 1A with EPT presenters James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton guiding the action with the help of Team PokerStars Pros (such as Liv Boeree and Lex Veldhuis), EPT grinders (including Domink Nitsche and David Vamplew) and the PokerStars Blog team (Stephen Bartley, Rick Dacey and Howard Swains). Find out more about it here.
* While we're talking of breaking new ground, the PokerStars Blog introduced 'The EPT Quote Board' for the first time. It's an easy way to shoehorn in lots of those great quotes which would otherwise fade into the tournament room ether.
