Battle of the Planets: MrWeesy whips through final table taking down $12K win

BOP_thumbnail.jpgA slightly larger crowd of 556 SnG Kings and Queens (as compared to 516 from last month) cashed in their tickets for the Halloween edition of the $50,000 Battle of Planets Triple Shootout freeroll. No tricks (except for the occasional check-raise) and all treats from PokerStars as the $50,000 is put up as a thank you to the SnG grinders that will be playing tonight a chance at the $12,000.00 first place prize.

Prior to the 13 minute mark, the tournament already bid adieu to two of the three Team PokerStars players who earned their way in. Team Online Grayson "spacegravy" Physioc and Team Pro Joon Noh were out before my mac and cheese was done on the stove leaving Diego 'vgreen22' Brunelli carrying the PokerStars flag in the early goings. Brunelli would lead his table with near 5,000 chips down to four players, then ran into a bit of a cooler against Ali_Baba_Ang with Ali_Baba's kings taking down a 4,830 chip pot over Diego's wired ladies. Down to three handed play and blinds at 50/100, Brunelli would call and cover by 30 chips the small blind push of cielo646 while holding 7♥A♠ and was ahead of cielo646's 5♦A♦. But, the wheel draw would hit on the turn with the final board showing 2♠ 4♦ 4♥ 3♥ T♠ knocking the Team Online member down to just 30 chips. He would triple to 90 on the next hand but couldn't find any more chips after cielo646 scooped up the rest on the second hand knocking out the remaining Team PokerStars player.

Down to the money bubble on the first leg of the triple shootout found everyone waiting on 87bowser taking on Mass1985 heads-up. With the blinds at 150/300 ante 25 and 87bowser holding a 7,600 to 1,340 chip lead both would shove preflop with 87bowser turning over the dominating Q♦A♣ to Mass1985's smaller ace A♦3♣. The 2♥ J♦ 6♥ 7♠ 7♥ board sent Mario and Luigi's nemesis to the second round as Mass1985 finished out of the money in 82nd place.

On towards the final table, MrWeesy caught the first seat to the final table where he will be assured $775.00 for winning two tables. Soon AeroZe, Matrixxx47, and RiverNickels would join MrWeesy there as the final table awaited the outcome of the RI Tony/afilado1 match. Both were nearly even in chips with RI Tony leading 7,027 to 6,473 as the blinds stood at 150/300 ante 25 and RI Tony would raise from the button to 900. afilado1 wanted nothing to do with seeing a flop and shoved holding T♣A♣. Back to RI Tony who made the decision to gamble with pocket fours 4♦4♣. The gamble got RI Tony to the final table as the board 7♠ J♣ 9♥ 5♥ 5♦ failed to connect with afilado1's hand as he finished on the final table bubble in tenth place ($195.00).

Early blood drawn

Like a hungry vampire looking for a late-night snack, two players were licking their lips after seeing a fleshy flop. Check out the very early exit just eight hands into the final table below:

Set over set never ends well as both RiverNickels holding 4♣4♥ and bouliebooze 3♠3♣ would flop sets on the 3♥ 9♦ 4♦ Q♥ 5♥ board but RiverNickels cashed in the 3,285 chip pot with the higher one. The cooler knocked bouliebooze down to 40 chips which missed on the very next hand taking home 9th place ($775.00).

Aero's Aces

The 15/30 blind level saw no change in the attendance, but as the 25/50 blind level started up we would see AeroZe and early chip leader RiverNickels tangle preflop. RiverNickels started the betting with a 150 chip raise as AeroZe on the immediate left shoved and covered the previous chip leader. RiverNickels took the bait and made the call holding pocket jacks J♣J♠ as AeroZe's pocket aces A♣A♥ looked the mightier. Both players would end up with full houses on the 5♦ Q♥ Q♦ 3♠ Q♣ queen filled board but AeroZe's queens full of aces took down the 5,105 chip pot and RiverNickels earned 24,000 nickles in eighth place ($1,200.00).

Wheezy but still kicking

The blinds remained at 25/50 as MrWeesy took a shot with a raise to 150 from middle position as short-stacked Matrixxx47 made the call on his immediate left and the rest of the table went back to watching football. T♦ 8♠ Q♥ on the flop got a 200 chip continuation bet from MrWeesy as Matrixxx47 made the call. A♦ on the turn and MrWeesy put Matrixxx47 all-in with a bet to 865 and again Matrixxx47 made the call flipping over the flopped top pair J♦Q♣. Unfortunately, MrWeesy caught up on the turn holding A♥J♠ and with the 7♦ river Matrixxx47 was deleted in seventh place ($1,700.00).

At the fourth hourly break AeroZe held a slight lead over MrWeesy as RI Tony with just 410 chips and blinds at 50/100 and moving up three minutes after returning would need some cards to stay in contention:

Seat 1: AeroZe (5025 in chips)
Seat 5: MrWeesy (3480 in chips)
Seat 3: cosmo.warz (2330 in chips)
Seat 4: impoor123 (1170 in chips)
Seat 7: calixto1963 (1085 in chips)
Seat 2: RI Tony (410 in chips)

Two smalls make a medium

RI Tony would get that double up on the very first hand back from the back outracing MrWeesy with pocket eights versus MrWeesy's A♦J♣. But two hands later impoor123 would limp from the button as calixto1963 shoved for 1085 chips holding 6♦6♥. The shove did not deter impoor123 from snap calling with pocket kings K♥K♦. Slowplayed to perfection as the board ran out flushes for both players 9♥ 2♥ 8♥ 4♥ 2♠ as impoor123 took the 2,090 chip pot and calixto1963 was knocked down to 65 chips. Those chips would last a few hands before being deposited into AeroZe's stack as calixto1963 took home sixth place cash ($2,200.00).

The eliminations would slow a bit as the 75/150 blind level came and went with our final five still fighting for that five figure payday. RI Tony continued to inch his way back into contention with another double up as all the players still had over 2,000 chips a piece.

Cosmo sent to outer space

The blinds moved up to 100/200 as cosmo.warz tried to make a move from the button by shoving for 1,680 chips holding 5♥A♦ as MrWeesy covered the bet and made the call with a bigger suited ace Q♠A♠. cosmo.warz would find some extra straight outs after the 8♦ 9♠ 7♥ flop, but failed to find a five or six on the 3♣ turn and J♠ river finishing the night in fifth place ($2,735.00).

The little engine that finally couldn't

RI Tony ran up 410 chips late in the tourney and did not settle for less out lasting calixto1963 and cosmo.warz earning a little more green until this hand below:

RI Tony's pocket sixes 6♦6♥ would run head first into AeroZe's pocket eights 8♣8♠ as the two got it in preflop. A eight on the flop was overkill as the remainder of the 3♠ 8♥ Q♣ 5♦ T♦ board never threatened and the short stacked RI Tony added fourth place ($3,350.00) cash to his bankroll.

The river delivers sometimes whether a player "deserves it" or not. The cards have no emotion but we are sure there was some emotion shown by the players after impoor123 made a blind grab by shoving 1990 chips from the small blind with the blinds up to 125/250 ante 25. MrWeesy was going nowhere with J♥A♠ and made the call as the jack kicker commanded the preflop lead over impoor123's A♦9♣. But a nine on the door 9♠ 7♦ T♣ gave impoor123 life for a critical 4,055 chip pot. A♥ on the turn helped no one but the re-suck J♠ on the river shipped the pot to MrWeesy as impoor123 was tournament chip poor but real money rich earning $4,500.00 in third place.

AeroZe with the lead

Starting heads-up play exactly two words of chopping up the pot came from AeroZe as he held an 8,068 to 5,432 chip lead over MrWeesy. But, MrWeesy replied "no wanna fight ;)" as the two starting the sparring.

Roles reversed and champion named

After just 17 hands and no raise in the blinds we would have our Halloween edition of the Battle of the Planets $50,000 triple shootout freeroll champion. MrWeesy's aggression was too much AeroZe as he would win 10 of the last 11 hands and took a 10,582 to 2,918 chip lead into the final hand. After MrWeesy made a min-raise from the button, AeroZe called to see a A♦ K♦ 3♥ flop. AeroZe checked as MrWeesy followed up with a 500 chip bet. A check-raise shove to 2,393 chips was the answer as MrWeesy quickly made the call with top pair T♦A♣. AeroZe held 2♦K♥ for kings but chances for a win quickly died with the A♥ on the turn shutting out AeroZe's chances to win earning $7,500.00 in second place.

Congrats to MrWeesy who brought the fight and took down $12,000.00 and the October Battle of the Planets title!
