Battle of the Planets: High stakes player Bryn Kenney runs away with $12K freeroll title

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Battle of the Planets logo.jpgGo look up "BrynKenney" in the search box shown to the right of every page here at the PokerStarsBlog. You will find the high stakes pro's name mentioned over and over with the results page and high stakes SCOOP and WCOOP tournaments. During today's $50,000 Battle of the Planets triple shootout freeroll, Bryn would add yet another hit to that search bar for his name after taking down the final table in a little more than an hour.

90 minutes in and PANDORAFLYER from the Ukraine would be the last hopefully for one of the final 81 spots. All 81 table winner reconvened to full tables, securing at least $195.00 in the process.

Shakuramana looked more like Shaquille O'Neil throwing down a monster dunk at Table Seven, quickly dispatching the other eight players quickly to lock up one of the first final table seats. Meanwhile noted high stakes tournament player BrynKenney was over on Table Six with magma82 and Paparatnik standing in his way of adding a Battle of the Planets Triple Shootout final table to his long list of tournament accomplishments including a SCOOP 2012 Event #34-H final table, collecting $31,000.00 in fourth place.

After Bryn knocked out Paparatnik in 13th place, Supernova Elite ICANTSNG found the right note (and pocket sevens and pocket sixes) against unkownps23 and Commmon13 closed out Table Four with a victory over skite555, only Bryn and magma82 trudged on for that final seat.

Finally, Bryn went on a huge rush, taking down 12 pots in a row to grind magma82 down to 2,345 chips and blinds at 125/250 ante 25. Holding 11,155 chips and J♠A♣ Bryn would min-raise from the button as magma82 found the wrong time to hold an ace, shoving from the big blind with 9♠A♦. Bryn quickly called as the board 4♠ 6♠ K♦ 8♦ K♣ sent the 2010 SCOOP champ to the final table shown below:

Seat 1: paseado (1500 in chips)
Seat 2: SandmanNess (1500 in chips)
Seat 3: ICANTSNG (1500 in chips)
Seat 4: Commmon13 (1500 in chips)
Seat 5: LaUsulpadora (1500 in chips)
Seat 6: BrynKenney (1500 in chips)
Seat 7: Shakuramana (1500 in chips)
Seat 8: Hope_Flooky (1500 in chips)
Seat 9: andersbisse (1500 in chips)

"Not a chance" stated by the Supernova Elite as ICANTSNG immediately shot down Shakuramana's suggestion to a nine-way chop that would have locked up nearly $3K per player. While some other players murmured about guaranteed cash, no one threw out any other ideas as the 10/20 and 15/30 blind levels passed without incident or chop talks.

Near the end of the 25/50 and the start of the 50/100 blind levels, chop talks began again, as ICANTSNG explained no deal would come about as BrynKenney held the only stack above 2,000.

Right after ICANTSNG explained that no deals were going down, the Supernova Elite flying Australia's flag would open shove from the hijack seat for 1,177 chips as LaUsulpadora on the button with a few more chips and pocket jacks J♠J♦ also shoved. Both blinds got out of the way as ICANTSNG watched pocket treys 3♥3♦ go down without a fight on the K♠ A♣ Q♦ 9♣ 6♦ board earning $775.00 in ninth place.

Slippery Slope

Just three hands later the preflop all-ins started up as the blinds were going up to 75/150 within a minute. Shakuramana would open all-in from the cutoff for 1,323 chips as on the button Hope_Flooky made the call for 963 holding T♠T♦. Not done yet as paseado called both bets with pocket kings K♦K♠. Shakuramana picked the wrong time to hold big slick A♥K♦ as the board gave the short stack a straight 3♣ Q♠ 8♥ 9♣ J♦ and the 2,939 chip main pot. The kings did manage to hold over big slick so paseado took down the smaller side pot as Shakuramana collected eighth place cash ($1,200.00).

No Fluke

As the table caught a breather for a couple of laps around the felt, Hope_Flooky would min raise from the button with the blinds holding at 75/150. The unlucky paseado would shove for 1,102 from the big blind holding pocket fours 4♣4♦. The Mexican's lucky did not change as Hope_Flooky instacalled with queens Q♥Q♠. Trip eights on the board 8♠ 7♦ 8♥A♥ 8♣ gave both players full houses but Hope_Flooky's ladies reigned as paseado took home seventh place ($1,700.00).

Killing level

Two hands later Commmon13 and LaUsulpadora decided to settle things preflop. Check out the video below to see who claimed the 2,984 chip pot and who found $2,200.00 in their PokerStars bankroll:

Commmon13's two live clubs K♣5♣ needed to catch versus LaUsulpadora's A♠Q♣ and did as a five hit the 3♣T♣5♦ flop. J♠ turn gave LaUsulpadora a little light as the non-club A♦ hit the river sending Commmon13 to the rail in sixth place ($2,200.00)

Not getting out of this level alive

The 75/150 level was brutal for the table population. Shortly after BrynKenney scored a critical 5,134 chipdouble-up off Hope_Flooky, andersbisse would min-raise from the small blind as SandmanNess took the queue to shove with pocket eights 8♦8♥ out of the big blind. No bluffing here as andersbisse's big slick K♣A♣ made the call. A king on the flop settled the flip 5♥ 2♦ K♠ T♦ 2♣ as SandmanNess said sweet dream to the table in fifth place ($2,735.00).

Bang bang

Our remaining four finally made it out of the dreaded 75/150 blind level and managed to play nicely with each other for almost 10 minutes as the chip stacks flattened a bit. With the blinds now at 100/200 Hope_Flooky would open from the cutoff for a min-raise as BrynKenney wasted no time in shoving for 3,810 chips. Holding 2,823 behind and Q♠A♠ Hope_Flooky made the call. The noted tournament pro however flipped up the dominating big slick K♣A♦ and rode the king kicker J♦ 3♦ 7♦ K♠ 2♦ (and a nut flush to boot) to a giant 6,546 chip pot while eliminating Hope_Flooky in fourth place ($3,350.00).

The very next hand LaUsulpadora would open shove from the button for 2,291 as the short stack hoped for a quick grab of the blinds. Instead andersbisse found pocket fives 5♣5♠ to the Dane's liking and made the call. T♦A♦ for LaUsulpadora would find exactly zero diamonds on the K♣ 8♣ J♠ 9♥ 8♠ board as andersbisse collected the 4,682 chip pot setting up a heads-up battle for the entire $12,000.00 first prize.

Battle? More like a skirmish

BrynKenney held the chip lead (7,033 to 6,467) starting heads-up play and ten hands later would find himself down by 34 chips going into this tournament changing hand shown below:

andersbisse opened for a min-raise with the blinds still at 100/200 as BrynKenney three-bet to a thousand total. After a careful pause, andersbisse shoved for 6,767 chips as BrynKenney also took a few second before making the call for 34 chips less holding pocket tens T♥T♠. Treys 3♠3♣ were no looking good, and even worse after Bryn spiked a set on the T♣4♠9♠ flop. A♦ on the turn closed things out on the 13,466 chip pot leaving anderbisse with just 34 chips to play with.

Two hands later the victory became official as Kenney's T♠J♥ beat andersbisse's 4♣9♠ on the J♠ A♦ 6♥ 3♣ 2♣ for the July Battle of the Planets Triple Shootout title and $12,000.00!
