Battle of the Planets: Positive EV, Evgen_591 wins February triple shootout

Please pause for a... oh, we lost another player. Ok, now you can... whoa nice hand sir. Tonight's $50,000 Battle of the Planets triple shootout freeroll had five players at the end looking to lock-up some considerable funds at the third and final table but the players kept get good hands and decided to allow the five board cards to determine their winnings. In the end Evgen_591 and edrillo would chop up the biggest part of the prizepool. edrillo would receive $9,500.00 while February's champ Evgen_591 took away $10,000.00.

The first round would see Thomas "Boku87" Boekhoff and Jon "PearlJammer" Turner, who claimed the most cashes at the 2012 WCOOP, sent to the sidelines unable to turn their free tickets into another five-figure score today.

Down to the last table of the first round Hagaton would flip a 2,195 to 8,305 deficit into a victory in just five hands to start up the second round and guarantee all 81 players left at least $195.00. Included in that bunch was a familiar face with a 10 million VPP badge, Supernova Elite stars, and a Red Spade next to his name. George "jorj95" Lind, the proud new father of twins back in November, added a small cash today after taking down his first round table. However, the Team PokerStars Online member would not crash another Battle of the Planets final table after taking an early exit in the second round, finishing in 77th place.

Bryn Kenney, winner of several major tournaments here at PokerStars, including the Super Tuesday in October and this tournament back in July of 2012, was looking to lock-up the first final table seat getting to heads-up play against Aarnimetsa after just the 50/100 blind level. However the first seats would get shipped to Adhemar6 and zibou04 as Kenney wrapped another shot at $12K.

Evgen_591 would shoot down lesus86 in 11th place as the tournament watched Table 6's heads up match between wtfgmon and meeshootkin to determine the final player. meeshootkin was down 2,360 to 11,140 chips at one point and stormed back to even up the match and take a similar lead 10 minutes in, nearly knocking wtfgmon out when wtfgmon was all-in with queen-four to meeshootkin's queen-jack. A fortuitous four on the turn kept wtfgmon on the table for a bit longer. With the blinds up to 150/300 ante 25 the pair would get it all in preflop again and again messhootkin held the dominating kicker. This time meeshootkin's big slick K♥A♠ would knock down wtfgmon's 5♥A♥ after dodging a flush draw on the 8♥ 6♦ 2♥ 2♣ 4♦ board to start up the final table below:

Seat 1: edrillo (1,500 in chips)
Seat 2: AAsuited91 (1,500 in chips)
Seat 3: zibou04 (1,500 in chips)
Seat 4: Adhemar6 (1,500 in chips)
Seat 5: MENCHIK19 (1,500 in chips)
Seat 6: meeshootkin (1,500 in chips)
Seat 7: BrynKenney (1,500 in chips)
Seat 8: vqenpp (1,500 in chips)
Seat 9: Evgen_591 (1,500 in chips)

No time wasted

Usually the first couple of levels see nothing more than some blind steals and three-bets with pre-flop folds. But, during the second level with blinds at 15/30, Evgen_591 would push out a four-bet all-in for 1,762 as AAsuited91 looked down at big slick A♦K♠ and called all-in for 980. Soon AAsuited91 would be looking up at the pocket kings K♦K♣ of Evgen_591 and viewing the $775.00 received in ninth place after the 7♥ 3♥ 8♠ Q♣ J♥ board failed to assist.

Another early departure

Early in the 25/50 blind level shortstacked Adhemar6, fresh off a double-up to 625 chips, would use those chips to push all-in from the button. MENCHIK19 sitting in the small blind with 1,165 chips and pocket sixes 6♠6♥ would also shove getting meeshootkin to donate the big blind. Adhemar6 went hunting for an ace or a wheel with 4♥A♣ but only came up with a four on the 4♠ 9♣ 8♦ 5♣ 9♠ board sending Adhemar6 off in eighth place ($1,200.00).

Bryn Kenney finishes in seventh place

Bryn would not become a two-time champ of this triple shootout today. With the blinds moving up to 50/100, Kenney would three-bet shove for 1,263 chips from the big blind over the min-raise of zibou04. zibou04 had no qualms about calling with pocket queens Q♠Q♣. A queen in the door Q♦ K♣ 6♠ A♦ K♥ rendered the turned ace useless for Kenney's 9♠A♣ as the SCOOP champ took away $1,700.00 in seventh place.

Drilling for cash

With the blinds up to 75/150 vqenpp was left with just 99 chips after doubling up zibou04 on the previous hand. Those scraps went in first as Evgen_591 followed along by raising to 375. edrillo would four-bet to 2,217 by shoving from the cutoff as Evgen_591 made the call covering all bets. Check out below who survived and who claimed $2,200.00 in sixth place:

Everyone held a pocket pair as Evgen_591 showed jacks J♣J♥ and vqenpp found pocket fives 5♥5♦. But neither of them could catch the pocket queens Q♣Q♠ of edrillo on the 9♣ 9♠ 4♠ 2♦ T♦ board as vqenpp took away $2,100.00 in sixth.

Not in a dealing mood

The PokerStars Host would drop by the table to offer some dealing assistance. The word "pause" becomes a powerful tool in these late stages. Unfortunately for three players, not enough people could type p-a-u-s-e in the chat box quickly enough to get the tournament stopped before their demise. First, with the blinds still at 75/150 edrillo tried to pause but MENCHIK19 had other ideas and shoved from the small blind for 1,360 chips. meeshootkin made the call from the big blind holding A♣Q♦ as MENCHIK19 looked for a bad beat with 8♠Q♣. No one touched the 6♥ T♠ A♦ 5♦ 2♦ board as MENCHIK19 took away $2,735.00 in fifth place.

Four hands later Evgen_591 would double up to 7,140 chips off zibou04 as meeshootkin unsuccessfully tried to pause the tournament. The next hand saw meeshootkin raise to 500 from the button as Evgen_591, now holding the chip lead, shoved holding A♠Q♥. meeshootkin would be left out of the chop talks as A♥J♠ failed to make any headway on the 9♠ 5♣ 9♥ 2♣ T♣ board, finishing in fourth place ($3,350.00).

Table for two

Four all-ins in a row and only two players would stand at the end of the non-stop action. edrillo would min-raise from the button as zibou04, holding just 1,417 chips in the small blind, shoved with 9♦A♥. edrillo, looking to make that deal a little sweeter, made the call with A♦5♥. The double-up looked well in hand for zibou04 until a five spiked on the river 7♦ 2♠ 6♦ 7♥ 5♦, sending $4,500.00 to zibou04 in third place and our final two to the negotiations table.

Money to all and to all a good night

The deal had a slight alteration from the original ICM figures given by the PokerStars Host but both players walked away satisfied as they split up the remaining funds accordingly:

Evgen_591: $10,000.00
edrillo: $9,500.00

With the funds secured the tournament chips lost their value as the two pushed back and forth until Evgen_591 finally held all 13,500 chips after Q♥6♦ defeated edrillo's 8♥K♠ on the 5♥ Q♦ 2♥ J♠ 5♦ to take the February Battle of the Planets triple shootout freeroll title!
