MicroMillions: ELGRAND4 grabs the win in Event #89 ($5.50 NLHE Turbo)

micromillions-thumb-blog.pngWith ten tournaments remaining in the MicroMillions, the Player of the Series race is racing toward a photo finish. Only 15 points separate fifth place from first on the leaderboard, and after his win tonight in Event #89, ELGRAND4 is among the top dogs, only five points behind AleksS69 and Team Pro Marcin "Goral" Horecki, who are tied for the top spot. This trio may be in for a tough grind over the next 24 hours, but the stakes are well worth it. The MicroMillions Player of the Series will receive a 2013 PokerStars Carribbean Adventure package, while second through tenth places earn a SCOOP Main Event ticket worth $1,050.

This $5.50 NLHE turbo drew a crowd of 16,514 players, creating am $82,570 prize pool. 2,250 players earned a share of it with the champion set to earn $9,669.47. Five members of the Red Spade Army were in the mix, including Horecki who continued his Player of the Series chase. Although Horecki came up empty in this event, Team Online's Shane "shaniac" Schleger cashed in 1,907th place.

The shortest stack on the final table bubble, Pablow32 made his move with Q♦J♣ in the cutoff. Thxalot reshoved from the button, revealing A♦T♥. Thxalot hit middle pair on the K♠T♠3♦ flop, but Pablow32 spiked the Q♥ on the turn to take the lead. His reprieve was cruelly rescinded on the river, the T♣ spiking to make Thxalot trip tens and send Pablow32 home in seventh place.

Seat 8: And19841 (7,989,736 in chips)
Seat 9: ELGRAND4 (5,723,889 in chips)

ELGRAND4 went to work on the very first hand, doubling through jaugustss when his A♥A♠ held up against Q♦J♣. ELGRAND4 moved up to 13.2 million in chips, good for second place. Thxalot was right behind him in third, but took a huge spill two hands later when he open-shoved for 12.2 million with A♠6♣ only to run straight into st.najt's A♦K♦. The dominating hand held and Thxalot suddenly saw his stack reduced to 6.46 million. Two hands later, Thxalot moved in his last eight big blinds with Q♠J♦ and flatus rex reshoved for 7.2 million with A♠K♠. Once again, queen-jack was no good, Thxalot departing in ninth place.

With the blinds up to 500,000/1,000,000, Malakka1 moved in for his last four big blinds with A♣7♣ from the button. St.najt three-bet from the small blind to isolate and turned over K♠J♣. Both players paired the K♥Q♦7♠ flop but Malakka1 could not catch st.najt's top pair, busting in eighth place for $743.13.

On the very next deal And19841 moved in for 5.5 million with K♥T♦ only to have st.najt wake up with A♣K♠ on the button. And19841 got no help on the jack-high board and with his second straight KO, st.najt moved into the chip lead with 25.1 million. For seventh place, And19841 earned $1,403.69.

Tejjmo90 doubled his 1.5 big blind stack on the next deal when he picked up J♠J♣ against ELGRAND4's J♥6♣. That hand, plus the blinds he stole on the next hand took his stack up to 7.8 million. Meanwhile jaugustss was looking to recover big-stack status, but ended up running into the st.najt buzz saw, his A♣3♣ up against A♠K♠. The T♣5♥5♦ flop didn't change anything, but jaugustss caught running clubs to make the nut flush and doubled to 14.9 million.

At this point, heavy lobbying for a deal was crowding the chat box, st.najt and snooker001 leading the way. Jaugustss was the only one not budging, but he soon found A♣Q♦ in the big blind, facing an under-the-gun min-raise from ELGRAND4. Jaugustuss shoved for 11.7 million and ELGRAND4 snap-called, revealing K♦K♣. Although jaugustsss paired his queen on the flop, he didn't improve any further and ended his run in sixth place, while ELGRAND4 moved into the chip lead.

Jaugustss's exit triggered a pause in the action to discuss a deal. The five remaining players quickly agreed to a chip count chop that left $1,000 in play for the eventual winner.

Action resumed, and the first hand back was a monster. Short stack flatus rex open-shoved for 9.8 million with A♣6♥, ELGRAND4 cold-called with 7♦7♥ in the small blind and snooker001 re-shoved with T♠T♣ in the big blind. ELGRAND4 called the small balance. The tens held up and snooker001 seized the chip lead with 31.9 million. ELGRAND4 fells to 16.9 million and flatus rex was eliminated in fifth place, his share of the deal totaling $4,499.76.

Although snooker001 briefly lost the chip lead to st.najt, he scored the largest pot of the tournament when his A♦5♦ rivered an ace against st.najt's pocket fives for 44.2 million. St.najt was left with only 5.4 million. The next deal of the cards saw Tejjmo90 double through snooker001 when his A♦8♣ flopped two pair against pocket sevens, but on the hand after that, st. najt's run came to an end. St.najt open-shoved with K♣4♣ on the button and ELGRAND4 called with T♥6♣ from the big blind. ELGRAND4 came from behind to turn a straight on the J♥9♣8♦Q♣A♦ board. Although st.najt finished fourth, the five-handed deal gave him the second-largest share of the prize pool at $5,929.57.

Three-handed play had barely begun when snooker001 open-shoved for 41.9 million with pocket fives and ELGRAND4 called all-in from the big blind with Q♥J♠. In what would turn out to be the final table's key coinflip, the curse of queen-jack lifted, the board running out Q♣K♣4♥9♥6♣ to double ELGRAND4 to 43.9 million.

Left with 25 million, snooker001 picked up A♥Q♣ in the small blind and three-bet shoved over ELGRAND4's 4 million opening raise. ELGRAND4 called, his A♦8♥ dominated. Once again, ELGRAND4 hit a lucky flop, an eight fallign to pair his kicker. Snooker001 couldn't manage the re-suck and hit the rail in third place, collecting $4,525.67.

Seat 5: Tejjmo90 (10,048,552 in chips)
Seat 9: ELGRAND4 (72,521,448 in chips)

ELGRAND4 had better than a 7 to 1 chip lead when heads-up play commenced and it only took three hands to close out the tournament. The shortest stack when the final table began, Tejjmo90 hung on bravely, climbing all the way to the final two from 1.5 big blinds, but finally succumbed to ELGRAND4:

Congratulations to ELGRAND4, who captured a MicroMillions title and moved up to third place on the Player of the Series leaderboard. He earned $8,239.81 for the win, while runner-up Tejjmo89 took home $5,465.76.
