MicroMillions Event 87 ($11 NL): Latapierce deals a win, earns $18,678
The closing weekend of the MicroMillions series started with a slate of ten tournaments, the "featured" tournament Event 87. The $10+1 no-limit hold'em tournament with 15,878 entrants, creating a prize pool of $158,780 with 2,025 players making the money.
The MicroMillions Player of the Series race intensified as the Team PokerStars Pro Marcin "Goral" Horecki (below), picked up 20 points with their 646th place finish to break a tie for first with AleksS69.A mincash for AlekS69 is only good for 10 points as the battle for the trophy and 2013 PCA package will be tight going into the final day.
Besides Horecki, several Team PokerStars players participated in Event 87, but failed to cash. Marcel Luske of Team Netherlands and Jude "j.thaddeus" Ainsworth of Team United Kingdom and Team PokerStars: Online players Shane "Shaniac" Schleger, Grzegorz "DaWarsaw" Mikielewicz, Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome and Friend of PokerStars Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander round out the field of red spade-tagged players.
Player of the Series update
Besides Horecki and AleksS69, several players in the top 20 made the money and earned points. jon011 and RedPh0enix each scooped 15 points to maintain their top 10 spots. ELGRAND4 and Mindthis earned 10 points to move closer to the top ten. Meanwhile GMalex89's stone bubbled the money, not the desired result for the player currently in 3rd.
noaweed79 up in smoke at final table bubble ($635.12)
Ten players remained, but only nine could fit at the final table. The blinds were at 150,000/300,000 with an ante of 37,500 as latapierce made a min-raise from UTG. Noaweed79 moved all in from the big blind for 1,617,294 with A♣4♦. Latapierce called with K♠3♠, wanting to start the final table as the leader. The flop was T♣3♥2♦, giving latapierce the lead with a pair of threes. Noaweed79 was unable to retake the lead and keep their chances of making the final table alive when the turn and river came 7♦ T♦, earning 10th place money for just over $635 and established the final table, with Team PokerStars: Online player (and world's greatest blogger) Dale "Daleroxxu" Phillip serving as host.
The final table was seated as follows:
Seat 1: Gehlen (13,578,939 in chips)
Seat 2: SuléAzul (5,392,428 in chips)
Seat 3: YaiDum999 (8,716,012 in chips)
Seat 4: asrael12 (7,217,744 in chips)
Seat 5: drogaatu (8,924,882 in chips)
Seat 6: BigfootWwa (2,570,370 in chips)
Seat 7: tselepos1 (11,372,653 in chips)
Seat 8: DennisTav (4,732,500 in chips)
Seat 9: latapierce (16,884,472 in chips)
SuléAzul sullen, out in 9th ($952.68)
First player to get their email from the PokerStars cashier letting them know how much they won was SuléAzul, finishing in 9th place. SuléAzul lost a flip early at the final table to BigfootWwa, and looking at 8♦8♠ and facing an opening raise to 750,000 from latapierce, decided to commit their remaining 2,109,558 chips to the hand. Drogaatu woke up with Q♦Q♥ in the small blind, and 4-bet shoved their stack, getting latapierce to fold. The board runs out 9♥5♣5♦9♠A♥, as drogaatu moved into 3rd with over 12 million chips.
Drogaatu dragged down in 8th ($2,778.65)
That would be the high water mark for drogaatu, losing three all-in hands to become the second player out at the Event 87 final table. The first hand was at the expense of DennisTav (K-Q outflopped drogaatu's pocket nines). Next came a 14 million chip pot when drogaatu shoved with K-Q, only to see tselepos1 waking up with A-A. Drogaatu doubled thru latapierce, and was involved in a coinflip against BigfootWwa with the blinds at 250,000/500,000 with an ante of 62,500. Here's how that hand developed:
The counterfeited drogaatu was sent away without chips, finishing 8th.
Tselepos1 finds KK at the wrong time, bounced in 7th ($2,778.65)
There was some discussion about making a deal seven-handed, but play continued as all players did not opt to click the deal button. The indecision would cost tselepos1, next to be dropped from the final table. Blinds were now at 300,000/600,000 with an ante of 75,000 as tselepos1 raised from the button to 1,400,000. From the big blind, latapierce re-raised to 3,300,000 then tselepos1 4-bet to 7,000,000 as latapierce moved all-in for just under 14,000,000 chips as tselepos1 called, having their opponent barely covered.
The nearly 29,000,000 chip pot was quite a cooler as tselepos1 turned over K♥K♦, only to find latapierce holding A♣A♦. Quite the cooler as the board runs out T♣4♠2♣4♣ 2♥ as latapierce moves out to a commanding advantage as tselepos1 is left with less than a big blind.
Tselepos1 would call holding 9♠2♠ in the next hand as latapierce re-raised to 1,200,000 and YaiDum999 called from the big blind. The flop of K♠8♥7♦ was checked by both players, then the 5♠ on the turn brought a check by YaiDum999 was met with a bet of 3,600,000 from latapierce as YaiDum999 laid down their hand. Latapierce turned out to have the best hand with J♥9♥ as tselepos1 once again held a flush draw on the turn. Once again, the flush didn't come as the A♥ on the river meant jack-high was good as six remained.
Asrael12 dispatched 6th ($4,287.06)
The six pack of hopefuls was reduced by one as asrael12 took sixth position. A raise by DennisTav to 1,500,000 meant a re-raise all-in from the big blind for just over 315,000 more by asrael12 as DennisTav called with A♣Q♠ to asrael12's J♣5♣. Five cards later and DennisTav would earn the checkmark: [A♥Q♣9♥J♠2♦.
Party of five makes a deal, the hard way
A few hands later, the deal talk was brought up once again. Finally, everyone clicked on the deal button and Daleroxxu provided the following figures:
latapierce: 33,924,355 - $17,121.85
DennisTav: 19,420,244 - $12,313.28
BigfootWwa: 11,321,534 - $9,628.31
Gehlen: 8,128,939 - $8,569.86
YaiDum999: 6,594,928 - $8,061.29
Several players wanted a little more. BigfootWwa wanted $10,000 as Gehlen asked for $9,000. DennisTav agreed to go down to $12,000 and latapierce decided to give some of his money to the other two players to get the deal done. Here's the final figures:
One reason why latapierce felt so giving was when he said the following after play resumed:
latapierce: my account on has .3 bucks left
latapierce: what a win
Quite the bankroll boost there for the player from China.
Bigfootwwa squashed in 5th ($10,000.00)
After the deal, BigfootWwa would get outflopped in two hands to be the first player post-deal out at the final table. First, YaiDum999's K-T beat A-J, and then it was DennisTav's turn to go from worst to first. The blinds are now 400,000/800,000 with a 100,000 ante as BigfootWwa shoved from the small blind for just over 3,5000,000 chips with A♦T♦ as DennisTav called with Q♠4♦. The flop was Q♥J♦2♣, giving BigfootWwa a gutshot straight draw and an overcard. The turn and river blanked out 6♠ Q♣ for BigfootWwa, but likely happy to take just under 3rd place money.
Gehlen grumpy in 4th ($9,000.00)
The second player who looked for a little more fell in 4th place as YaiDum999 picked up another scalp with the disposal of Gehlen. Gehlen open-shoved from the button with 9♥8♥ as YaiDum999 quickly called with A♥T♥. Gehlen picked up a straight draw on the J♠6♣5♥ flop, but no more help arrived as the turn and river comes 3♦4♠ as three remained.
DennisTav denied in 3rd ($12,000.00)
The suddenly unstoppable force known as YaiDum999 continued to run through the final table as DennisTav would add no more to their score. DennisTav made a modest raise to 2,400,000 and called when YaiDum999 went over the top for more than 27,000,000 chips. YaiDum999 happened to have the lead with 7♣7♥, flipping against DennisTav's A♦K♠. The 8♠7♠2♥ flop left DennisTav drawing dead, little consolation when the A♣ turn and 8♣ river put YaiDum999 the slight chip leader going into heads-up play.
YaiDum999 done for in 2nd ($8,016.20)
Both players wanted to chop up the remaining $2,000 that would go to the winner, but as Daleroxxu noted, that option is not available. Latapierce was victorious in most of the hands played, with this hand a prime example, as blinds moved up to 500,000/1,000,000 as each player anted 125,000:
The chip lead for latapierce was close to 4-1 when the final hand was played out. Latapierce opened with a raise to 2,500,000 with A♠9♠ as YaiDum999 shoved for over 16,000,000 chips with J♣6♣ as latapierce called. The virtual dealer displayed these five cards: Q♣7♠3♠K♣ 9♥ as latapierce's pair of nines was more than enough to take down the pot, the rest of YaiDum999's chips and the MicroMillions title, good for $18,678.39. YaiDum999 made a valiant effort after the deal, picking up $8,016.20 for their runner-up finish.
