MicroMillions II: afroditaluna guns down competition in Event #34 Shootout (6-max) victory

micromillions-thumb-blog.pngWhat is more exciting than a short-handed shootout?

Mention the term "shootout" and it conjures up raw images of the American Wild West and a dilapidated saloon filled with unsavory characters like rough and tumble cowboys fending off slithery card sharks and other miscreants on the outskirts of an unsavory mining town. Of course, I've been watching too many Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns, but it's hard to shake the powerful images of the rambunctious whiskey gentry whenever someone utters the world "shootout."

All you have to do was win five consecutive SNGs and you'll lock up a MicroMilllons II win Event #34 $5.50 NL Shootout (6-max). Sounds a lot easier than the reality of slugging it out to the death on five different tables over a grueling thirteen-hour siege.

Event #34 attracted 6,744 gunslingers, who boosted the prize pool to $33,720. The top 1,296 places paid, which meant that everyone who won their original table was guaranteed a min-cash.

Only two notables managed to cash: PokerStars Team Online Kevin "Wizard of Ahhs" Thurman and PokerStars Team Online Andre "acoimbra" Coimbra from Portugal. If you don't know, Coimbra is in the middle of an ambitious quest to play in all 100 MicroMilliosn II tournaments. He's more than one-third of the way through and he can add a min-cash to his results page.

Coimbra busted in 735th place due to a nasty suckout. On a flop of K♣7♠3♠, Coimbra check-raised Gaukur, who three-bet him. Coimbra repsonded with a four-bet, which prompted a five-bet shove from Gaukur. Coimbra was covered and called with K♠J♣. He was ahead with a pair of Kings, bit Gaukur caught running cards for a straight when the 6♥ fell on the turn and the 4♦ spiked on the river. Ouch. Coimbra hit the rail in 735th, but secured a min-cash.
