MicroMillions II: froab takes one down for the Netherlands in Event #46 ($11 NLHE, 6-Max SuperKnockout)

micromillions-thumb-blog.pngWhen I heave the words Super Knockout I immediately think about the the early 90s Nintendo game Super Punch-Out. Yes the names are different but the idea behind that game and this tournament are both the same, knockout or eliminate your opponent(s) in any way until you are the lone one standing at the top.

That is just what froab did in Event 46 of the MicroMillions II schedule. Starting as the underdog, much like you do when starting out the Super Punch-Out game, froab took the short stack and overcame all adversity that comes with it collecting just over $4,000 (along with any bounties).

For those that are not familiar with this format, it is just a knockout tournament. The only difference between the two is that rather than only a small percentage of the buy-in going as a bounty on your head exactly half of your buy-in is used. So that means, you knock two players out and you have your buy-in back, minus the rake.

With 6,595 players entering this tournament the prize pool surpassed the $25,000 guarantee to generate a $5,284.51 first place price. Here is a look at the numbers:

Entrants: 6,595
Guarantee: $25,000
Prize pool: $34,623.75
Bounty pool: $34,623.75
Paid Players: 840

Seat 1: StradaFrank (2,981,418 in chips)
Seat 2: froab (2,660,295 in chips)
Seat 3: VolosyNazad (9,018,043 in chips)
Seat 4: SaidElaloui (3,661,490 in chips)
Seat 5: corstep (10,542,872 in chips)
Seat 6: Feanor1983 (4,110,882 in chips)

Six doubles before an elimination:

After a series of double-ups that saw froab go from the short stack to a spot in the top three the first elimination finally happened. StradaFrank, who had managed to get a double through froab earlier, moved all-in from late position. froab was the next to act and moved all-in to isolate. The isolation move worked and the players cards were revealed, froab held A♥K♠ against StradaFrank's K♦6♣. The 8♥5♠5♣3♠2♣ board brought no assistance to StradaFrank who collects $519.35 for sixth place.

Blind Battles:

Action folded to VolosyNazad in the small blind, who made it 400,000. SaidElaloui moved all-in for just over 2.5 million and VolosyNazad called. The K♣J♠3♥ flop gave VolosyNazad an inside straight draw while leaving SaidElaloui with a slight lead. The 4♥ turn was a good one for SaidElaloui but the Q♣ river was better for VolosyNazad. SaidlElaloui collects $981.58 for fifth place.

The next elimination came in another blind versus blind battle. Much like the earlier one the chips went into the middle pre-flop, the main difference this time though was the big stack had the best of it, and even possibly slow-rolled the short stack along the way. Feanor1983 had to wait for a call after moving all-in from the big blind over a raise from corstep. corstep took some time before finally pressing the call button only to show A♦A♣. Feanor1983 held A♠8♦. The J♦9♦9♥T♦A♥ board was of no substantial help for Feanor1983 who collects $1,644.62 for a fourth place effort.

Let's make a deal?:

The final three players agreed to take a look at the numbers. Once they were finally posted they all agreed and play resumed. Here is how the deal looked.

Left To Play for place 1: $500.00

Aces cracked:

After a three-way limped pot pre-flop the players saw a Q♠3♠2♠ flop. Both corstep and froab checked, VolosyNazad bet 924,374, corstep moved all-in (had the table covered), and VolosyNazad called. VolosyNazad showed A♠A♥ for a pair of aces and flush draw while corstep held J♠8♠ for the flopped flush. The 9♣ and 4♣ came on the turn and river leaving VolosyNazad still looking for another spade as he exited in third place collecting $3,705.08.

When heads-up play began corstep held a 3 to 1 chip lead. With that lead corstep seemed content to flip for a chance to finish off froab to collect the extra $500. That plan did not work out well as four hands into heads-up play froab called an all-in shove and managed to get the double-up, leaving corstep looking up rather than down at froab.

The pair switched the lead a few more times before froab finally disposed of corstep catching a flush on the 7♣4♠2♣K♦8♣ board. corstep collected $3,895.29 for second while froab takes home $4,089.53.

Congrats to froab on winning Event #48.
