MicroMillions II: HansGusen112 hammers out a win in Event #61 ($1+R NLHE 3x-Turbo)

micromillions-thumb-blog.pngThere was a time when we'd marvel at a $1 rebuy tournament racking up close to a six-figure prize pool. A time when we'd nearly faint at the thought of a half a billion chips in play. A time when we'd wonder what it would feel like to turn six or seven bucks into twelve grand. But when it comes to the MicroMillions, these sort of fairy tales are all in a day's work. It wasn't exactly smooth sailing for tonight's Cinderella. Poland's HansGusen112 went from chip leader to short stack and back again but racked up the win in the end along with a $9,400 score.

With a rebuy period triple its standard length, Event #61's 15,824 players made 84,211 rebuys and 8,150 add-ons, taking the prize pool up to $98,484.35. 2,025 places were paid with $12,316.86 set aside for first place. Joining MicroMillions Ironman Andre Coimbra in the field was his fellow countryman Henrique Pinho. Pinho missed the money, while Coimbra cashed in 840th place.

About five and a half hours after cards went in the air, ten players remained. With the blinds up to a staggering 1.2M/2.4M, koolas picked up A♥J♠ in the big blind and three-bet shoved for 27 million over 45dfg's button raise. Unfortunately for koolas, 45dfg had a real hand and turned over 9♣9♥. 45dfg's pocket nines improved to tens full of nines by the turn, ending koolas' run on the final table bubble.

Seat 9: HansGusen112 (99,999,425 in chips)

TOLENTINO07 scores back-to-back KOs

Short stack binhoeiji found a fortuitous double-up on one of the first hands, three-bet shoving with A♦T♦. Ros1987's A♣2♥ did not improve and he was left with 23.2 million. Moments later, he open-shoved from the cutoff with 8♣T♣ but ran headlong into TOLENTINO07's pocket kings. Ros1987 did not hit the miracle flop he was hoping for and exited in ninth place, earning $590.69.

The next deal saw Huhukiller and TOLENTINO07 go to war on a A♣6♣5♥ flop in a three-bet pot. Huhukiller's A♥9♥ was just out-pipped by A♦T♣, TOLENTINO07's kicker playing when the turn and river fell the J♦ and the 7♥. Huhukiller took home $886.03 for eighth place, while TOLENTINO07 moved up to 96.5 million.

Domination (and in reverse)

The action didn't relent for a minute. Two hands later binheiji moved in for 30.2 million on the button with A♣2♠. Elio2405 reshoved from the small blind, his A♦K♦ in a dominating position. It was all over on the turn, elio2405 flopping a king and turning kings up to eliminate binhoeiji in seventh place.

TOLENTINO07, however, didn't fare as well with his A♥K♣. All-in preflop against 45dfg's K♦T♥, both players flopped a king, but 45dfg binked a ten on the turn to make two pair. 45dfg doubled to 66 million while TOLENTINO07 was left with 47 million.

TOLENTINO07 tried to make something happen in this 81.7 million pot, but elio2405 smelled a rat and called him down with ace high:

Left with 20 million in chips at 1.8M/3.6M blinds, TOLENTINO07 shipped it in on the next hand with J♦9♦, but did not improve against elio2405's A♣J♣. For his sixth-place finish, TOLENTINO07 took home $2,658.10.

hallofax halted, 45dfg scratched

HansGusen112 was knocked down to less than ten big blinds after running 7♠7♥ into frase1977's A♥A♣, but doubled back up when his A♥K♣ hit top pair against 45dfg's T♣T♦. That left hallofax as the table short stack. Looking down at 4♣4♦, hallofax moved in from the cutoff and 45dfg looked him up with 6♠6♣ in the big blind. The sixes held and hallofax was eliminated in fifth place, earning $3,642.58.

45dfg's 133.5 million stack slipped through his fingers in the space of two hands. He called HansGusen112's 47 million shove with A♦J♥, only to be shown A♣Q♣. HansGusen112 turned the nut flush, leaving 45dfg on 57 million. A few minutes later, 45dfg moved all-in on a K♦3♠2♥ flop with 6♠6♦ and elio2405 snap-called with K♠J♠. Although 45dfg turned a gutshot straight draw with the 5♥, the river was the Q♠ and he hit the rail in fourth place, collecting $4,627.07.

Deal me in

Blinds were 2.5M/5M as three-handed play kicked off. Elio2405 held the chip lead with 351 million, HansGusen112 had 113 million, and frase1977 was the short stack with 80.5 million. Elio2405 was the first to broach the subject of a deal and his two opponents quickly agreed to pause the action and run numbers. It didn't take long before they reached a consensus on a chip count chop that left $1,500 on the table for the winner.

Action resumed and frase1977 wasted no time getting his chips in, three-bet shoving for 74.5 million with J♦8♠. While the move would have folded out plenty of hands, HansGusen112 actually had a good one and called with A♠8♥. The board bore no fruit for frase1977 and he exited in third place, his share of the deal totaling $7,515.54.

Heads-up chip counts:

Seat 6: elio2405 (337,546,348 in chips)
Seat 9: HansGusen112 (207,058,652 in chips)

A huge first hand swung all the momentum toward HansGusen112. Following a button min-raise from elio2405, HansGusen112 check-raised the 9♠4♠2♦ flop to 4.43 million. Elio2405 reraised to 7.86 million and HansGusen112 came back over the top, moving all-in for 196.5 million. The bet scared off elio2405 and HansGusen112 moved into the chip lead.

The deciding hand boiled down to another case of domination, this time HansGusen112's A♠7♣ outkicking elio2405's A♥6♥. Although the flop brought plenty of outs to a chop, HansGusen112's seven played:

Left with less than three big blinds, elio2405 moved them in on the next hand with T♠3♦ and HansGusen112 called with pocket deuces. HansGusen112's ducks held, the board running out J♠7♥6♠Q♥5♣ to lock up the win.

Congratulations to HansGusen112 on his first MicroMillions title and a $9,386.94 score. Thanks to the three-handed deal, runner-up elio2405 picked up the largest share of the prize pool at $10,604.95.
