MicroMillions: maks0965 makes it happen in Event #86 ($2.22+R NL Hold'em 3x-Turbo)

micromillions-thumb-blog.pngMaking it to the money is the first goal, then getting to the final table, followed by top three and then the win. For maks0965 all of those goals were meet in Event 86 of the MicroMillions series. At each step, except for the final one, he was not at the top of the leader board but he could still be found on the board and that is what really mattered. In the end his name sat at the top along with $20,208.94 that he collected for his efforts.

Re-buy's, get your re-buys. Event 86, a $2.22 No Limit Hold'em 3x-Turbo re-buy event, featured a re-buy period that lasted 90 minutes. That is three times the normal length for a re-buy period in a turbo event. That extra time allowed some of the 18,705 entrants to re-buy as many times as long as they had less than 3,000 chips. By the time the re-buy period ended the field combined for 66,029 re-buys adding an additional $145,263.80 to the prize pool. Add to that the 7,966 add-ons, which players got an additional 30,000 chips for, and the final prize pool total was $187,254.00, with 2,475 making at least $16.85 and first place slated to win just over $20,000.

The path to the final table left a few Team PokersStars Pros and a couple Team Online members in its path. The best of the Team PokerStars Pros was Marcel Luske who finished 1,202 for $33.70. He was preceded by Marcin "Goral" Horecki (1,478 - $28.08) and Jude "j.thaddeus" Ainsworth (1,737 - $22.47). Grzegorz "DaWarsaw" Mikielewicz had the best finish of the Team Online members with a 1,722nd finish for $22.47. Not too far behind him was Shane "shaniac" Schleger who finished 2,225th for $18.72.

After eliminating all of the Team PokerStars players the remaining players worked their way down to the final table. By the time they got there the blinds were up to 1,600,000/3,200,000/320,000 with the average holding around 17 big blinds.

Seat 9: Pacomania (102,079,403 in chips)

Let's race:

With less than ten big blinds hardelf moved all-in from middle position holding A♥J♦. Action folded to emoe119 in the small blind who called showing 8♠8♦. The big blind folded and the board ran out 6♥4♠3♦K♠5♥ leaving hardelf only holding ace high. For his ninth place effort hardelf collects $1,123.52.

Another race:

The players seemed content with getting into the classic races for their tourney life. emoe119 was once again involved in the action, this time however he was the one holding the ace against his opponents pocket pair. It was an under the gun all-in shove from sties3n that started the hand, everyone folded except for emoe119. emoe119 held A♦8♠ against stieb3n's 6♠6♣. Unlike the previous hand the ace came, it was followed by one on the river with the board reading A♥Q♦4♥7♣A♣. steib3n collects $1,685.28 for eighth place.

Pocket pair < An Ace again:

Even though he held a little more than 18 big blinds clayrob moved all-in from middle position. He was called by seba_lobo, who was covered by clayrob. seba_lobo held K♣K♥ and clayrob held A♥J♠. The ace came for clayrob on the A♣8♦7♠ flop. It was followed by the Q♦ turn and 4♥ river giving clayrob the pot and win eliminating seba_lobo in seventh place where he collects $2,808.81.

Finally the pair holds:

After a string of an ace finding its way onto the board to best a pocket pair and eliminate a player clayrob managed to get his pocket pair to hold for an elimination. AAmaggie opened to 8,000,000 from early position, she was raised by clayrob who moved all-in (enough to cover AAmaggie). AAmaggie called and the players cards were revealed with AAmaggie holding A♥J♥ against clayrob's T♠T♦. The T♥7♠2♥ flop delivered a set of tens for clayrob but also gave AAmaggie a flush draw. The 8♥ was one of the cards that AAmaggie hoped to see pulling her ahead in the hand. That lead was short lived as the 2♦ came on the river giving clayrob a full house, tens full of twos, eliminating AAmaggie in sixth place for $4,681.35.

Pocket pair fails again:

It didn't take long for the pocket pair losing trend to come back. In the next elimination tyumenChere learned that pocket pairs are not always the best hand to have. The hand featured a battle of the two short stacks with Pacomania holding just a little bit more than tyumenChere. The pair got their chips into the middle pre-flop and their cards were revealed with Pacomania holding K♦Q♠ and tyumenChere holding 9♠9♥. The A♦K♠2♣ flop brought Pacomania a pair of kings and the lead in the hand. The 5♠ turn meant nothing to either players hand, and the K♣ river delivered an un-needed set of kings for Pacomania. tyumenChere collects $6,553.89 for his fifth place effort.

Not again?:

After opening from under the gun to 16,500,000 Pacomania was facing the decision of calling off the remainder of his stack after make0965 moved all-in. Pacomania called and showed T♦T♣ against maks0965's A♥J♦. Once again the pocket pair proved to be the bad luck charm as the A♣4♦3♠ flop pulled maks0965 ahead. The 2♥ turn and 8♣ river helped neither players hand meaning Pacomania exits in fourth place collecting $8,426.43.

Down to two:

The first elimination hand to not feature a pocket pair saw emoe119 get all-in against maks0965 in a battle of the blinds. emoe119's A♠Q♣ held the lead over maks0965's K♠Q♠. That lead disappeared on the K♦T♠7♦ flop. The 7♠ turn and 2♦ river brought no assistance to emoe119 eliminating him in third place collecting $12,171.51.

Heads-up play:

Heads-up play lasted all of one hand even though both players held over 20 big blinds with maks0965 holding the lead. In the final hand all the chips got into the middle pre-flop and the players cards were revealed. maks0965 held A♦T♦ while clayrob held J♥T♣. The T♠6♣4♠ flop brought both players a pair of tens but maks0965 still sat in the lead with his ace kicker. The 2♥ turn meant nothing as did the 4♦ river. clayrob earns $15,916.59 for his second place effort while maks0965 takes home $20,208.94 for the win.
