MicroMillions: Poker Own U pwns Event #100 ($1+R Hyper-Turbo)

micromillions-thumb-blog.pngAfter eleven days of round-the-clock tournament action, the inaugural PokerStars MicroMillions came to a close tonight. And what better way to celebrate than with the scorching action of a $1+R Hyper-Turbo? Serving as the MicroMillions' raging wrap party, Event #100 drew 10,532 revelers, who made 31,875 rebuys and 5,933 add-ons to create a $47,373.20 prize pool. 1,350 players cashed, with first place set to earn $6,771.67. Not bad for a dollar (or two or three or even twenty-three) investment.

Joining the action were Team Pros Victor Ramdin, Vanessa Selbst, Martin Staszko, Jude Ainsworth, Henrique Pinho and Team Online's Randy "nanonoko" Lew and Shane "shaniac" Schleger. Three Red Spades finished in the money-- George "Jorg95" Lind III (1,318th), Marcin "Goral" Horecki (1,240th), and Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome (874th).

With ten players remaining, DenFCB held 2.97 million and faced the 800,000 big blind on the next deal. Holding A♥4♥, he open-shoved from under-the-gun, but ran into elFaeK's A♣T♦ in the small blind. DenFCB found no help on the board and exited in tenth place, setting the final table.

Seat 8: AEM-_X (4,403,291 in chips)
Seat 9: eLFaeK (9,164,782 in chips)

The first hand of the final table brought its first elimination. With the action folded to ProvidenceG on the button, he moved all-in for 8.5 million with J♥9♦ only to run headlong into Poker Own U's pocket queens in the small blind. Although ProvidenceG hit a pair of nines on the fiop, he didn't improve any further and hit the rail in ninth place, earning $331.61.

Two hands later, d0rkoff shoved for 3.86 million from UTG and elmaveric called all-in for 1.19 million from the big blind. Elmaveric's K♥3♠ couldn't face d0rkoff's A♦T♦, sending him home in eighth place. With another deal came another short-stack shove, this time AEM-X shipping 3.8 million with A♥2♥ and Poker Own U reshoving behind him with A♠8♥. Poker Own U flopped an eight and AEM- X departed in seventh, earning $947.46.

Poker Own U made it back-to-back eliminations, open-shoving for 36 million on the next hand and earning a call from jenni279. Again, Poker Own U had a dominating hand, his A♥K♠ trouncing K♣Q♠ on a nine-high board. Two hands later it was three KOs in a row for Poker Own U, his pocket deuces holding up against trokonuts' K♣7♦ in a blind-vs-blind confrontation. Trokonuts' fifth-place finish earned him $1,894.92.

Five hands passed before another player was on the chopping block, this time d0rkoff, who moved in for 3 million from the small blind with K♠8♥. Although nunomgas called with the inferior Q♠J♥, a queen hit the flop and sent d0rkoff packing in fourth place.

As three-handed play took off, blinds were up to 800,000/1,600,000. Poker Own U was up to 51.1 million, nunomgas held 16 million and elFaeK was the short stack with 4.9 million. The next two hands saw both short stacks double up, first eLFaeK with Q♣J♣ against J♥T♠, then nunomgas when A♥K♥ held against 4♦6♠. Nunomgas managed to do it again only a few hands later, when Poker Own U open-shoved with K♦2♠ in the small blind and nunomgas woke up with 7♥7♦. Suddenly nunomgas was in the lead with 37 million while Poker Own U fell to 27.6 million.

ELFaeK didn't hang on for much longer. Although he got his money in good with A♦8♦ against Poker Own U's K♠J♠, Poker Own U flopped a flush draw and hit it on the turn, the board running out Q♦3♠2♠9♠4♠ to send eLFaeK home in third place.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 1: Poker Own U (35,382,512 in chips)
Seat 6: nunomgas (36,689,488 in chips)

Although these two were neck and neck when heads-up play commenced, it only took four hands to find a winner. After stealing a set of blinds apiece, Poker Own U caught a lucky turn card to wrest away a 17.6 million pot from nunomgas:

The next deal of the cards saw all the marbles in the middle once again, nunomgas open-shoving for 27.4 million with A♠6♣ and Poker Own U calling with pocket deuces. The ducks survived the Q♠8♦5♠K♦T♦ board and only two and a half hours after cards went in the air, Poker Own U was a MicroMillions champion.

Congratulations to Poker Own U on turning only a few bucks into a $6,771.67 score. Kudos are also due to nunomgas, who earned $4,974.18 for his runner-up finish.
