MicroMillions: Pokerroos go one-two, thePanther00 wins Event #82 ($4.40 PLO)

micromillions-thumb-blog.pngA raise of hands if you set your alarm for Event #82 2012 MicroMillions Pot Limit Omaha $4.40 tournament with a $5,000.00 guarantee.

Anyone still living out there?

82 tournaments for ten days straight at all hours of the night and day and some players have managed to down half of Columbia's output of coffee beans or walk around with keg of Red Bull. My hat bows to the small stakes warriors seeking their riches through this unique tournament series. 2,404 got their $4.40 in on time for a shot at the $1,539.94 first place prize as 306 players would at least take home enough to pay for another triple espresso grande at Starbucks.

Ah, Mr. Horecki. It is almost as though someone just places his name into the cash every tournament during this series. But, we know he has fought hard to get though these massive fields in all hours of the day after playing in 70 tournaments thus far. Current in the second position on the Player of the Series board he trails only AleksS69 who has entered a staggering 73 tournament by 10 points. Players receive a minimum of 10 points for making into the cash and the Team PokerStars pro did so once again tonight finishing in 161st place ($11.53). AleksS69 however would fail in a quest to add points after getting through nearly three-fourth of the field in 581st place.

Others close to that Player of the Series trophy and 2013 PCA prize package would also continue their ironman-like allegiance to playing every MicroMillions tournament possible: third place L.A. COOL (from Germany not Los Angeles) 955th place, fourth place GMalex89 from Spain was looking to put up some big points holding chips with two tables remaining and could pass the Polish pro with a seventh place finish or better, and fifth place bem777ret finished near L.A. COOL in 974th place.

As mentioned GMalex89 held on to an above average stack of 937K with 17 remaining and blinds at 15K/30K as the player took their last five minute pause before the crunch time of hand-for-hand play before the final table. The poker-roos from Australia would put up a fine showing near the final table as rimtutituki, thePanther00, and jododododo57 all looking a sizable ROI from their four dollar investment and $1.5K going to the winner. The only country surpassing them was of course the Russians who once again have displayed a knack for any poker variation we put up here at PokerStars as Y_Lucky_Y, Step@shka, Varvar94, and komplektovsh were looking to add on to the massive disparity in number of final table participants for Russia with 104 final tables thus far (averaging at least one a tournament!) with Germany in a distant second at 65, and Spain with 50.

GMalex89 would get tangled with Tight Jr in the second hand back from the break as both played flopped trip aces with both players holding a king kicker. However a T♦ popped off on the river as GMalex89 checked and Tight Jr pushed enough to put the Spaniard all in for a 1.7 million chip pot. After thinking a bit GMalex89 made the call to see A♥T♣9♠K♥ in Tight Jr's hand notching the nut boat on the river to end the tournament in 15th place ($52.88) and gain only a few points in the Player of the Series race.

Roo on Roo violence ended with both jododododo57 and rimtutituki flopped sets. rimtutituki had the better of it with a set of aces versus a set of queens for jododododo57 as the later took leave in 11th place ($67.31) and rimtutituki collected a sizable 1.3 million chip pot with blinds at 20K/40K. Hand-for-hand would go exactly one hand since 5BAL8 was nursing a stack of just 95,048 in the big blind and new blinds of 25K/50K. KOSKE STRUJA's min-raise would put the Hungarian all-in for the remaining 45,048 chips as Varvar94 made the call from the button. Both players would check it down to the river 5♠ K♠ 7♥ 3♠ 3♣ when Varvar94 slid out 300,000 causing the original raiser to fold. The second nuts were shown by Varvar94 5♣ 9♦ K♦ K♣ as 5BAL8 could not produce quads 2♦ J♠ J♥ 7♦ ending the tournament as the bubble boy in tenth place ($67.31).

Seat 1: rimtutituki (2053127 in chips)
Seat 2: JeanGrae (653338 in chips)
Seat 3: KOSKE STRUJA (2494456 in chips)
Seat 4: putte023 (925494 in chips)
Seat 5: thePanther00 (1111446 in chips)
Seat 6: Step@shka (836068 in chips)
Seat 7: Tight Jr (1894731 in chips)
Seat 8: Y_Lucky_Y (1263768 in chips)
Seat 9: Varvar94 (787572 in chips)

Hip-Hop or Marvel Comics fan?

Either the player known by JeanGrae is a fan of the South African hip-hop artist or the X-Man's Phoenix known as Jean Grey. Regardless the Canadian would be our first causality in the early goings of the final table. Four hands in rimtutituki would open for a button raise to 150,000 as JeanGrae three-bet to 500,000 from the small blind. rimtutituki called to see a J♦5♣8♥ flop as JeanGrae slid in the remaining 103,338 chips. Holding two overs and a gutterball straight draw Q♠ 9♣ K♣ 6♣ rimtutituki made the call up against the top pair A♦ Q♥ T♣ J♥ of JeanGrae. The straight wasted no time getting there on the turned 7♠ leaving only three nines in the deck for a reversal of fortune. 2♠ was not a nine and JeanGrae perished in ninth place ($86.54).

Stepping out

Step@shka was one of three Russian players to make it to the final table, and unfortunately the first to leave. As the blinds moved up to 30K/60K thePanther00 would min-raise from the small blind as Step@shka made the call to see a tepid 8♦Q♥5♣. Both reacted to the bland flop by checking for 2♥ turn. This time thePanther00 pounced on the pot with a 120,000 bet as Step@shka made the call. 7♥ river got thePanther00 to check as Step@shka saw the weakness and shoved for 406,068. Correct play as thePanther00 only held a pair of sevens 6♠ K♥ 7♠ A♦ but some animal instincts got thePanther00 to make the call as Step@shka could only produce a pair of fives 5♠ T♦ J♣ 9♠ ending the tournament in eighth place ($163.47).

Not so lucky

After losing a huge 2.04 million chip pot to Tight Jr when Y_Lucky_Y could not respond to a 420,000 chip min-raise on the river with the board showing Q♥ 3♣ 5♦ 6♣ 4♠, Y_Lucky_Y went from average stack to desperate stack. Holding just 164,324 chips and 40K/80K blinds the Russian would shove preflop getting a call from rimtutituki but a re-shove by KOSKE STRUJA. rimtutituki got out of the way, and for good reasons as you view below:

Aces with a suited ace A♣ A♥ K♥ 5♥ for KOSKE STRUJA and a decent wrap hand for Y_Lucky_Y Q♥ A♠ 8♥ J♥. However the wrap never caught on the K♣ 6♣ 7♠ 4♥ 7♦ board on Y_Lucky_Y would settle for seventh place ($240.40).

Russia, Russia, Russia

Step@shka out in eighth place, Y_Lucky_Y in seventh, and now the final Russian, Varvar94, would take leave in sixth. With the blinds holding at 40K/80K two-thirds of the table would call as Tight Jr, Varvar94, rimtutituki put money in as putte023 check the option in the big blind. 4♣ 5♥ Q♠ flop got putte023 to bet the pot as Varvar94 raised to 347,572. Only 27,572 more to call putte023 did so showing a set of fives 9♠ 3♥ 5♦ 5♠. Varvar94 held the overpair of kings T♣ K♠ 6♦ K♥ with no draw. 8♦ turn and 7♣ river would eliminate the remaining Russian from the field as Varvar94 collected $336.56 in sixth place.

On the prowl

Moving up to five-handed play and 50K/100K blinds Tight Jr would limp in from the cutoff as the thePanther00 in the big blind checked. The 5♣ 7♦ 6♠ flop would get some action as thePanther00 led out for the minimum and Tight Jr tightly called. T♣ on the turn had thePanther00 bumping it up to 450,000 as Tight Jr only held 365,771 chips and made the call all-in with an overpair and gutshot J♠ J♣ 9♣ 6♦. However, thePanther00 found the fourth five in the deck on the flop for a set 5♠ 5♦ 7♣ 5♥ which dodged the river K♥ to collect the 1.1 million chip pot and send Tight Jr home with $432.72 in fifth place.

Putte out to the rail

putte023 could not keep up with the blinds and held a horrible position of the big stacks of thePanther00 and rimtutituki directly to his left. Lack of stolen blinds and chips left putte023 with just 563,066 chips and 60K/120K blinds as rimtutituki tried to poach putte023 for free chip raising to 360,000 from the button as putte023 would try defending the big blind with a shove holding a better than average J♦ 2♠ K♠ A♦. rimtutituki made the easy call, also holding a decent hand 9♣ 8♦ T♥ 9♥. First blood would go to putte023 as the flopped jack 3♥ 7♣ J♣ gave the Swede the lead but opened up a slew of straight draws. A♥ on the turn made it better with two pair, but the T♦ river hit rimtutituki's draw and ended putte023's MicroMillion final table in fourth place ($576.96).

Just not fair

With blinds at 80K/160K to say KOSKE STRUJA had a mountain to climb would be understatement. It was much like an ant trying to scale the Matterhorn as seen by the chip stacks below:

Seat 1: rimtutituki (3,975,070 in chips)
Seat 3: KOSKE STRUJA (367,548 in chips)
Seat 5: thePanther00 (7,677,382 in chips)

thePanther00 limped in from the button as KOSKE STRUJA shoved in the rest of those chips from the big blind holding a high three-card wrap with a suited ace K♥ Q♣ 2♦ A♥ as thePanther00 called the small amount also with a suited ace but also a pair 3♠ 7♠ A♣ 3♣. The treys were not needed as a seven hit the river J♦ 5♦ 6♣ T♣ 7♦ as KOSKE STRUJA ended the tournament in third place ($837.55) starting up the heads-up battle for the MicroMillions Event #82 title.

Two Roos for the title

rimtutituki would start heads-up play with a 3.89 million to 8.12 deficit but stormed out of the gates by taking down six of the first seven hands reversing the chip count to 7.13 million to thePanther00's 4.88 million.

The thirteen minute battle would see few lead changes until the hand below would award one of the Australians the Event 82 title. Take a look at the title clinching hand:

After losing the lead, rimtutituki was 3.69 million to thePanther00's 8.32 million and popped a raise from the button to 750,000 with the blinds at 125K/250K. thePanther00 would lie still and re-raised to 1.25 million as rimtutituki made the call. Club, club, club 2♣ 7♣ 5♣ either this would get a lot of action or none. It was the later as thePanther00 put in enough to force rimtutituki all-in. Perhaps a soul read rimtutituki called with top pair and a gutshot 4♥ 8♠ 7♠ J♠ as thePanther00 turned up just ace high A♦ 3♥ K♦ J♥ and a smaller gutshot. King on the turn K♠ made all the difference as the turned pair held through the 5♥ river for the 2012 MicroMillions Event 82 victory!
