MicroMillions: Snize07 seizes Event #34 title ($5.50 NLHE Knockout Turbo)
It's not often that the initial chip leader at a final table maintains that lead until the end. And in a tournament filled with as many swings as a turbo, it is an even greater feat. But snize07 did just that, going into the final table with a significant lead and only increasing it as the action moved along. Using the big chip stack as an advantage, snize07 handily won the tournament and more than $9,500 in cash.
This was one of those tournaments that players put on their must-enter list. A $5.50 buy-in was appealing, as well as the $25K guarantee, but it was also a knockout event, meaning that every time a player was eliminated, a $1 bounty was to be awarded. Even more fun was the addition of Team PokerStars Pros in the field, each of whom boasted of a $50 bounty. Add a turbo structure of five-minute levels to the event, and it was going to be poker madness.
It was. From the moment it began, chips were flying, bounties were awarded, and blind levels increased quickly. After 60 minutes of registration, the numbers were set at:
Prize pool: $108,399.90
Paid players: 53,600
The turbo nature of the event pushed through tens of thousands of players in the first two hours, and the money bubble burst at approximately the two-hour mark. The first paid player from the event was johnnyboy031, who took home $6.50 in addition to any bounties collected.
Out of the 3,600 players who cashed, there were several members of the PokerStars team. The first one to cash was Team Online's Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen, who left the party in 3191st place. Team Pro Matthias "mattidm" de Meulder exited in 2433rd, Team Online's Kristian "CharismA3" Martin in 2274th, Team Pro Max Lykov in 1618th, and fellow Pro Marcin "Goral" Horecki in 1074th. Further into the money, Team Pro Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier finished in 308th place, followed closely by Team Online's Randy "nanonoko" Lew in 284th.
Team Pro Raymond Wu was in the top 10 on the leaderboard with seven tables remaining, though he fell to the middle of the pack at the 4.5-hour mark. But by the time only two tables remained, he was back near the top.
Wu lost a big pot, however, and moved all-in from the big blind for less than 1 million chips soon after with J♦5♣. Aarmand77 was there with A♠J♣, a hand that stood up to the 4♦Q♣6♣Q♥6♥ board. While aarmand77 took the $51 bounty, Team Pro Raymond Wu finished in 11th place with $406.49.
That pushed players into hand-for-hand, and the other table found gancolino all-in with T♦9♣ and snize07 calling from the big blind with A♣5♣. The board of A♠6♥6♦8♦6♠ gave snize07 the full house and left gancolino out in tenth place with $406.49.
Snize07 sits in chip lead
In Level 53, with blinds of 500,000/1,000,000 and a 125,000 ante, players began the final table with these stacks:
Seat 1: hAnN18Al (9,088,316 in chips)
Seat 2: TEFTO (15,566,884 in chips)
Seat 3: skona9 (10,847,744 in chips)
Seat 4: moniek777 (8,036,017 in chips)
Seat 5: snize07 (28,564,980 in chips)
Seat 6: aarmand77 (20,573,391 in chips)
Seat 7: t-dott420 (11,728,256 in chips)
Seat 8: 1foldnuts4u (14,031,152 in chips)
Seat 9: pcchild (13,758,260 in chips)
The very first hand saw moniek777 double through snize07 for nearly 18.2 million chips, though snize07 remained at the top of the chip counts. Soon after, t-dott420 doubled through aarmand77.
TEFTO attempted the same. When hAnA18Al moved all-in from UTG, TEFTO called all-in with A♦K♦. HAnN18Al showed A♠K♣ but hit the board of A♣8♣2♣3♣Q♦ for a club flush. TEFTO didn't get the chop, but did receive $541.99 for the ninth place finish.
Two hands later, moniek777 limped from UTG and skona9 checked the big blind to see a 5♦8♥Q♠ flop. Moniek777 led out with a bet, and skona9 check-raised. Moniek777 called all-in with A♦5♠ for bottom pair, but skona9 had Q♥3♠ for top pair. The 8♠ and 3♣ finished the board, and moniek777 had to leave in eighth place with $921.39.
Snize07 extends lead
When 1foldnuts4u moved all-in UTG, snize07 responded from the button with an over-the-top all-in shove. That prompted folds from other players, and 1foldnuts4u was at risk with A♦K♠ against the K♦K♥ of snize07. There was no ace on that 7♣3♣6♥9♥K♣ board, and 1foldnuts4u was ousted in seventh place with $1,354.99.
Skona9 was the next to move, but this time it was t-dott420 as the caller with A♠9♠. Skona9 was racing with 4♥4♣ and was hopeful of the double-up as the flop came 3♦3♣6♥ and the turn showed T♠. But the A♦ on the river gave t-dott420 the better two pair, and skona9 departed in sixth place with $1,951.19.
HAnN18Al then doubled through aarmand77 in this sizeable pot:
The very next hand saw aarmand77 push all-in with Q♣T♣ from UTG, and snize07 called from the big blind with K♠8♦. The board came 9♥7♣4♠A♣7♠, and the king kicker played to eliminate aarmand77 in fifth place with $2,926.79.
Short-stacked pcchild was the next to move, doing so with A♠K♥ from the big blind. Original raiser snize07 called with K♣6♣ and hit that flush on the 7♣A♣3♠Q♣5♣ board. Pcchild left the action in fourth place with $3,902.39.
Deal? Yes, please!
The final three players paused the tournament to discuss a deal, and they found one that they liked. With a small adjustment to the chip-chop numbers, they agreed to the following payouts with $500 set aside for the winner.
Seat 1: hAnN18Al (25,560,400 in chips) = $6,144.02
Seat 5: snize07 (64,945,310 in chips) = $9,002.99
Seat 7: t-dott420 (41,689,290 in chips) = $7,069.12
With the title and another $500 on the line, none of the final three wanted to make any rash moves, so they played a number of rounds before an all-in and a call.
It happened when snize07 moved all-in as the first to act, and hAnN18Al called all-in with K♥9♠. That dominated the T♠9♠ of snize07, and continued to be ahead after the 7♣9♣8♦ flop. But the T♦ on the turn gave snize07 two pair, and the Q♦ on the river sent hAnN18Al home in third place with $6,144.02.
Heads-up for a minute
The final two players started their match with these chip counts:
Seat 5: snize07 (110,630,710 in chips)
Seat 7: t-dott420 (21,564,290 in chips)
And on the third hand, t-dott420 made that all-in move with 6♥2♠. Snize07 called with J♥9♣ and not only hit the 3♥9♥Q♠ flop for a pair, but after the 7♥ turn, hit the 9♦ on the river for trip nines. T-dott420 took second place and $7,069.12.
Snize07 of Germany won Event 34 of the MicroMillions and received $9,502.99 to go with the title. Congrats!
