MicroMillions 4: BomberPaul gets top dollar but Fangwui has the title in Event #68 ($2.20 NLHE)
Event #68 of the MicroMillions was a great representation of what this series is all about. A tiny buy-in, a massive field and the chance to turn a few bucks into big cash. While the top price of over five grand was enticing, our final six players agreed to divide the cash in a deal based loosely on chip counts. Fangwui ended up with the title for Singapore but the biggest cash would interestingly go to the 5th place finisher in Hungary's BomberPaul.
It all unfolded in the $2.20 No Limit Holdem Event which drew an enormous field of 27,174 players. The prize pool ballooned out to $54,348 which was more than five times the advertised guarantee!
The top 3,600 players would be rewarded for their efforts with a profit but Team PokerStars Pros Naoya Kihara, Caio Pessagno and Mickey Petersen all fell short of the money. As did Chanda39 from the Netherlands who was the bubble in 3,601st place to miss the $3.26 min-cash by the narrowest of margins.
It was a long haul from 27,000 players to just nine, but after close to ten hours of play, a huge preflop clash unfolded on the final table bubble between 1802BG and FAT Tony1. 1802BG three-bet jammed A♦T♠ but FAT Tony1 called with a dominant A♠J♠ which held as the board bricked out. 1802BG was bundled out in 10th place as our final table line up was set:
Final Table Line up
Seat 1: FAT Tony1 (31,871,147 in chips)
Seat 2: liderru (14,353,827 in chips)
Seat 3: marcisbroks (4,958,864 in chips)
Seat 4: Tinu72 (8,796,458 in chips)
Seat 5: AlexDulama (14,193,488 in chips)
Seat 6: Nigames (4,805,398 in chips)
Seat 7: BomberPaul (18,198,214 in chips)
Seat 8: Fangwui (31,204,720 in chips)
Seat 9: galthran22 (7,487,884 in chips)
FAT Tony1 and Fangwui were the two big chip leaders, and with the final table blinds starting at 400k/800k/100k, there were a few shorties under pressure from the get-go.
The landscape changed when BomberPaul found a big early double up through Fangwui as the big stacks collided in a battle of the blinds. BomberPaul raised before Fangwui jammed from the big blind with A♥6♣. BomberPaul made the easy call with T♠T♣ with the pair holding up through the board of 9♣4♠9♠Q♠K♦.
marcisbroks also caught a double up to stay alive and then found K♣K♦ a short time later. It looked a good spot for another double to get back into contention but incredibly marcisbroks ran into BomberPaul's A♠A♣ in the ultimate cooler. There were no kings on the 5♦8♦5♠6♠J♥ board as marcisbroks became the first elimination of the final table, falling in 9th place for $271.74.
Two hands later and we saw a huge three-way all-in and a double elimination:
"Big Slick" in the big blind was perfect timing for galthran22 to KO two players in one savage blow. Nigames took 8th place for $461.95 as the short stack, while AlexDulama received a pay jump to $679.35 for 7th place.
Dealing six ways
With six players remaining, BomberPaul was in a healthy chip lead as the idea of a deal was thrown around. It didn't take long for all six to click the deal button as the clock was paused and negotiations entered.
Both chip chop and ICM numbers were presented but the big stacks were firm on going with a chip chop model or play it out. In fact, further demands saw BomberPaul take a couple hundred extra off the short-stacked Tinu72, while liderru scalped an extra $61 from galthran22. After 25 minutes of discussion, the numbers were set in stone with an extra $200 and the title left to play for.
When play resumed, the action picked up with FAT Tony1 making a nice surge, helped with the elimination of Tinu72. FAT Tony1 raised with K♠T♥ as Tinu72 was committed with K♦7♥. The board fell 3♠T♠Q♦3♣K♣ to give FAT Tony1 the pot with kings and tens. Tinu72 was a little harshly done by in the negotiations, but it worked out ok in the end, with 6th place netting $1,587.49.
The biggest pot of the tournament then unfolded between big stacks Fangwui and BomberPaul:
Another cooler saw BomberPaul go from chip leader at the deal, to a sudden 5th place finish, but a very favourable deal saw BomberPaul go home with an impressive $4,093.08. It was nearly three grand more than the original payout for 5th and the largest payout of the tournament.
Fangwui was into the chip lead but it was FAT Tony1 who was responsible for the next bustout. liderru was down to a little over three big blinds and tried to make something happen with a suited connector - 8♥7♥. Unfortunately FAT Tony1 had that in bad shape with J♠8♠ from the big blind which held on the 3♥Q♣8♦6♣T♦ board. liderru collected a very nice $2,124.16 for 4th place.
Very next hand and Fangwu changed the equation from three to two as galthran22 was bounced out of the tournament. galthran22 moved all in from the button with K♠Q♣ and Fangwui made the call in the big blind with A♣8♠. galthran22 flopped a gutshot straight draw to go with the live cards, but in the end missed the 2♣J♣9♠2♦3♥ board to be eliminated in 3rd place for $1,900.71 in prize money.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: FAT Tony1 (53,183,967 in chips)
Seat 8: Fangwui (82,686,033 in chips)
Fangwui was in front and took down a couple of handy pots to extend that advantage but with the blinds still at 600k/1.2M/150k, there was plenty of play ahead.
FAT Tony1 was able to secure a nice double up with 6♠4♠ turning two pair on a 5♦T♦4♦6♣ board against Fangwui's 7♦T♥ for top pair with straight, flush and even better two pair possibilities. Incredibly Fangwui bricked the river as the A♠ brought the two players pretty close in chips.
It was the story of the heads-up contest as Fangwui chipped away at FAT Tony1 before FAT Tony1 would recover with a double up. When FAT Tony1 flopped a set of queens to pip Fangwui's top pair of kings, it was again close, but that would be the last comeback FAT Tony1 would be able to make.
After getting ground down a little, the final hand would see FAT Tony1 open with a min-cash before Fangwui overbet jammed from the big blind. FAT Tony1 decided to call for around 30 big blinds with K♥9♥ and was trailing the A♣7♣ of Fangwui. The board was decisive as it was spread A♠6♣4♣4♠A♥ to give Fangwui a full house for an impressive victory. FAT Tony1 collected $2,876.33 for 2nd place as the MicroMillions title and $3,215.02 goes to Singapore's Fangwui. Congratulations!
