MicroMillions 4: Luck of the Irish with oscorhiggins in Event #43 ($3.30 NLHE 6-Max)

Short-handed poker never disappoints. There's nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. Players are forced to get busy and provide action, which is great when your job is to write final table recap articles! So our thanks goes out to oscorhiggins from Ireland. It was a day or two late for St.Patrick's Day, but the luck of the Irish was with oscorhiggins who smashed through today's final table, single-handedly eliminating every other player to claim the MicroMillions title.

It was Event #43 of the MicroMillions 4 series which saw 15,164 players come together for the $3.30 No Limit Holdem Six-Max Event. The prize pool reached $45,492 to breeze past the advertised guarantee as the top 2,100 players would go on to collect a profit for their time.

PokerStars Team Online's Tyler Frost continued his quest for MicroMillions glory but missed out on the money in this event, as did mackman1917 from Canada who bubbled in 2,101st place to miss the $5.00 min-cash.

There was plenty of action throughout the event but things certainly slowed up approaching the final table. The problem was largely to do with gonfab from Argentina, who after building up a healthy chip stack, was now sitting out. Assumed asleep. Doh! The others were pillaging as fast as they could with several other short stacks doing their best to hang on until after gonfab was seemingly to be blinded out in 7th place.

However that plan was foiled when gonfab rose from the dead, and with just a few chips left, managed to double up through the other short stack in clarelio to stay alive. clarelio wasn't able to recover and was unlucky to be eliminated on the final table bubble when all in preflop with A♥2♥ against oscorhiggins' Q♦3♥. The flop of 4♥J♥3♠ paired oscorhiggins but clarelio picked up a plethora of outs to go with the ace. The turn K♦ turn and T♠ river bricked the board to see clarelio out in 7th place as our final table line up was set:

Final Table Line up
Seat 1: SkyTheSlayer (7,193,506 in chips)
Seat 2: gonfab (4,574,538 in chips)
Seat 3: oscorhiggins (28,252,631 in chips)
Seat 4: muriloh96 (16,531,574 in chips)
Seat 5: Huggy Herbie (8,615,172 in chips)
Seat 6: dead001001 (10,652,579 in chips)

oscorhiggins was the big chip leader when the final table kicked off, however the first significant pot saw that chip advantage reduced. It was gonfab who continued the remarkable comeback to double up with A♣K♠ against oscorhiggins' 8♥8♣. A king on the flop and another on the turn was more than enough for gonfab to climb off the short stack.

It took some time before we lost our first player from the final table with Huggy Herbie the unlucky one to fall. The action unfolded on a flop of 8♣T♣5♠. After calling a preflop raise, Huggy Herbie moved all in from the big blind holding K♥T♠ for top pair, however oscorhiggins made the call with Q♣J♣ for straight, flush and overcard outs. One of those was the 9♦ turn and another was the K♣ river to give oscorhiggins the pot and leave Huggy Herbie to pocket $545.90 for 6th place.

oscorhiggins continued to run rampant picking up K♣K♠ in the big blind at the perfect time to take care of SkyTheSlayer. A button steal from SkyTheSlayer with Q♦7♣ ran into a monster with the Q♠2♥5♦9♦5♥ board not enough to save SkyTheSlayer from elimination. SkyTheSlayer took home $909.84 for 5th place.

After sitting out for most of the last two tables, gonfab had done very well to reach the final four, but that would be as far as it would go. After raising from under the gun and finding a call from oscorhiggins, gonfab moved all in at the flop of K♣8♠5♣ hoping to take it down. gonfab held A♣Q♠ for just ace-high, but oscorhiggins had flopped top pair with K♠T♦ and made the call. The T♠ turn gave oscorhiggins two pair, and an inside straight draw for gonfab, but the harmless 9♥ river sealed the deal. gonfab was gone in 4th place for $1,592.22 in prize money.

oscorhiggins held a comfortable chip lead, but things evened right out when dead001001 landed a double up with A♣T♠ pairing the ten to better the chip leader's 5♦5♣.

At that point muriloh96 threw up the idea of a deal and with the three players even in chips, a three-way even chop was proposed. oscorhiggins was happy enough with that but it was dead001001 who was dead silent. Not a peep.

So it was game on, and ironically, muriloh96 was the one to suffer from the lack of a deal. A short time later muriloh96 was all in with A♥K♣ in a huge coin flip with oscorhiggins' 6♠6♣. The board blanked 7♥T♠9♠J♦2♣ to leave oscorhiggins' pair to take it down and eliminate muriloh96 in 3rd place for a $2,956.98 score.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 3: oscorhiggins (57,839,842 in chips)
Seat 6: dead001001 (17,980,158 in chips)

The heads-up contest didn't take long to come to a climax. oscorhiggins was able to chip away as dead001001 before a fitting final hand unfolded:

oscorhiggins got a little sneaky, limping the button with aces, but the trap worked as dead001001 ran smack into the rockets. A great tournament by dead001001 ends in 2nd place for $4,321.74 as our champion is oscorhiggins! A dominant performance earns $6,240.01 and the MicroMillions title. Congratulations!
