MicroMillions 4: tania iara crowned champ in Event #52 ($5.50 NLHE)

We're over half way through the series, but the big fields continue to roll out for the MicroMillions 4, as players take advantage of the chance to turn pocket change into thousands of dollars in cold, hard cash. Today's event was no exception with Portugal's tania iara taking a fiver and turning it into over eight grand. Not bad for ten hours work!

It was Event #52 of the MicroMillions series which saw 12,023 players come together for the $5.50 No Limit Holdem event. The prize pool was $60,115 which doubled the guarantee. The top 1,530 players would finish in the money with a min-cash worth $9.01.

Team PokerStars Pros Tyler Frost and Henrique Pinho were early casualties but it was the aptly-named bumer888 who bubbled in 1,531st place. Bummer.

When W0nd3rG1rl's K♦2♣ ran into Luggläggarn's [Kc Ac] our final table of nine was set:

Final Table Line up
Seat 1: v3rbalizah (3,985,117 in chips)
Seat 2: zeezinhoo (12,025,540 in chips)
Seat 3: giddinz44 (3,684,500 in chips)
Seat 4: faku_pereda (2,606,615 in chips)
Seat 5: mulekedoido (1,760,380 in chips)
Seat 6: rapa pa pu (3,434,648 in chips)
Seat 7: flipin11 (9,820,518 in chips)
Seat 8: Luggläggarn' (10,384,004 in chips)
Seat 9: tania iara (12,413,678 in chips)

The final table kicked off with the blinds at 125k/250k/31.25k which meant there was plenty of play ahead of us. tania iara held the chip lead, while the pressure was on the short-stacked mulekedoido.

mulekedoido was unlucky not to find an early double up with A♥K♥ against zeezinhoo's A♦7♦ but a double-paired board split the pot to leave mulekedoido still on the short stack.

Next hand, mulekedoido found A♣Q♠ so in went the chips once again after giddinz44 had shoved with 2♠2♣. Again the luck was against mulekedoido as the board fell 3♠5♦9♣K♥6♦, leaving mulekedoido to pick up $378.72 for 9th place.

We then saw another interesting hand that involved two pocket pairs, a two-outer, lots of diamonds and a split pot:

faku_pereda was next to fall in another interesting post-flop hand. Three players took a 6♦K♦3♠ flop with faku_pereda's continuation bet called in both spots. The turn brought the 5♦ and faku_pereda bet out again. v3rbalizah got out of the way (later claiming to have had pocket queens) but giddinz44 moved all in. faku_pereda called with K♥K♠ for top set but giddinz44 had turned the flush with J♦8♦. faku_pereda would need the board to pair on the river to stay alive, but the 8♠ didn't do it. faku_pereda collected $601.15 for 8th place.

v3rbalizah found a double up with A♠7♦ in a battle of the blinds against zeezinhoo's K♣8♥, while rapa pa pu was barely able to give a whimper, effectively blinding out in 7th place for $1,202.30.

Luggläggarn' was next to go in a massive preflop clash. It started with a min-raise from zeezinhoo under the gun, with giddinz44 making the call. Luggläggarn' then three-bet all-in, with v3rbalizah deciding to cold-call from the big blind. zeezinhoo wasn't mucking around though, moving all in over the top to isolate the short stack and force the other two to fold. Luggläggarn' opened A♥Q♠ but had run into the rockets as zeezinhoo showed A♦A♠. The board ran out Q♦K♣7♥9♦T♦ which was not enough queens to save Luggläggarn' from elimination in 6th place for $1,803.45.

It wasn't all smooth sailing for zeezinhoo, as v3rbalizah caught a big double up with Q♠Q♦ against zeezinhoo's A♣K♣. But zeezinhoo got those chips back when flipin11 shoved under the gun with J♣T♠ and zeezinhoo made the call with 9♥9♦. The board of 4♦4♥8♣Q♥3♠ left flipin11 to take home $2,404.60 for 5th place.

v3rbalizah's wild ride continued with another big double up, this time with A♥A♠ against giddinz44's 6♥6♠. giddinz44 had enough to hold onto the chip lead, winning more than a fair share of smaller pots.

It was zeezinhoo who would be next to depart at the hands of tania iara in a big pot where both players got a little out of line:

zeezinhoo jammed the old ten-high and tania iara called with the old king-high, as zeezinhoo was bounced out in 4th place for $3,005.75 in prize money.

tania iara was into the chip lead and extended that even further with the elimination of giddinz44. After a preflop raise, tania iara checked it over to giddinz44 on the flop of 9♠T♥8♠. giddinz44 took the opportunity to move all in but tania iara snapped it off with Q♣J♠ for the nut straight, leaving giddinz44's A♠K♥ in a world of trouble. The 3♠ turn and 5♦ river completed the board to end the tournament of giddinz44 in 3rd place for $4,208.05.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: v3rbalizah (8,717,808 in chips)
Seat 9: tania iara (51,397,192 in chips)

tania iara held a big chip lead and was able to keep the pressure on v3rbalizah to slowly extend that advantage. v3rbalizah caught one fortunate double up with J♦T♣ turning two pair to crack tania iara's A♣A♠.

However the comeback was only temporary, even if the final hand took a bit of luck to get tania iara over the line. v3rbalizah open-jammed around fourteen big blinds with A♣Q♠ and tania iara made the call with A♠T♠. tania iara was dominated but that all changed when the board was spread 5♣T♥8♦3♠T♦ delivering trip tens for tania iara for the victory! v3rbalizah pocketed $6,011.50 for 2nd place as tania iara is our latest MicroMillions champion winning $8,369.72 and the title!
