MicroMillions 4: DJekaMD puts Moldova on the map in Event #82 ($2.20 NLHE)

Ok, I admit it. I'd never heard of Moldova. But a quick Google search told me it's a small European country sitting in between Romania and Ukraine. It has a population of about 3.5 million and its capital is Chișinău. There ya go. It's also now the home of the newest MicroMillions champion as DJekaMD proved too strong in Event #82 of the MicroMillions 4 series.

It was a $2.20 No Limit Holdem event which saw 13,742 players slap down a few dollars for the chance to turn that into a handsome return. The prize pool reached $27,484 to more than double the advertised guarantee with the top 1,800 players reaching the money.

We couldn't see any red spades for Team PokerStars in the field in this one, but we did see Kosem_87 from Russia fall on the bubble in 1,801st place to miss the $3.29 min-cash by just one spot.

When raden308 from the Ukraine was eliminated in 10th place, our final table was formed:

Final Table Line up
Seat 1: tender_mia (6,025,956 in chips)
Seat 2: géograchrist (517,930 in chips)
Seat 3: MissGeClickt (6,413,818 in chips)
Seat 4: cipher2 (18,454,588 in chips)
Seat 5: wolfofsvnew (8,163,361 in chips)
Seat 6: DJekaMD (12,856,578 in chips)
Seat 7: Xball1313 (4,502,768 in chips)
Seat 8: Dschak (3,554,956 in chips)
Seat 9: edturkey (8,220,045 in chips)

There was a big discrepancy in chips when the final table got under way with géograchrist desperately short and cipher2 holding a commanding chip lead.

géograchrist caught one early double up, but couldn't make it two, committing with Q♣J♣ against cipher2's A♠3♥. The board arrived 9♠9♣5♥4♠T♠ to leave ace-high on top to send géograchrist home in 9th place for $164.90.

Just moments later Dschak three-bet all in with A♣K♦ after an open from DJekaMD who made the call with 5♠5♦. The board blanked out 3♣2♠T♣9♥7♥ as the pair held, eliminating Dschak in 8th place for a $247.35 collect.

cipher2 was well in front and extended that advantage even further with the elimination of the short-stacked wolfofsvnew. cipher2 opened for a min-raise with A♠K♠ as wolfofsvnew called all in for less with a dominated A♦6♠. The board would offer no assistance for the short stack, running out 3♣Q♦J♠J♥J♣ as wolfofsvnew would add $522.19 to the cashier for 7th place.

As the remaining six players tossed around the idea of a deal, cipher2 was busy tossing around chips, as imagination turned into pure gold:

That was dirty, dirty, dirty. An aggressive three-bet by cipher2 flopped an open-ended straight draw that got there on the river to conquer the flopped top set of a desperately unlucky edturkey. It may be little consolation, but edturkey pocketed $797.03 for 6th place.

cipher2 was now a massive chip leader, but stayed out of the way of the next elimination as tender_mia and MissGeClickt went to war preflop. MissGeClickt committed with 6♦6♠ but tender_mia had that covered with 8♥8♦. The board of 5♦Q♥J♦K♦2♦ brought four diamonds but that didn't change anything as both players made a flush with tender_mia's eight taking the pot. MissGeClickt received $1,071.87 for 5th place.

cipher2 was back in the thick of the action moments later as again it was "Big Slick" that did the damage. cipher2 raised with A♥K♥ and then called the shove of Xball1313 who tabled 3♠3♦ for the baby pair. The board arrived J♦8♣K♣4♣5♠ to pair the king as cipher2 claimed another victim. Xball1313's 4th place earned a nice return of $1,346.71.

The pace of the final table had been pretty quick, but things slowed a little once play reached three-handed and with the players evening up in chips, they agreed to a three-handed deal with $200 and the title left to play for.

After leading for most of the final table, it would be cipher2 slipping to the short stack before raising with 4♥4♣. DJekaMD three-bet jammed with A♥5♠ and was probably happy enough to be racing when cipher2 made the call. An ace in the window on the board of A♠3♣3♠K♣8♠ saw DJekaMD rake in the pot and eliminate cipher2 for a post-deal total of $2,707.60.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: tender_mia (24,805,439 in chips)
Seat 6: DJekaMD (43,904,561 in chips)

The two remaining players were here for a good time, not a long time, with the heads-up battle lasting only a few brief minutes.

tender_mia opened with a raise from the button and DJekaMD made the call to see a flop of 2♥6♦9♥. DJekaMD checked and then raised, but tender_mia came back with a re-raise. DJekaMD wasn't deterred, moving all in with tender_mia making the call. tender_mia showed 7♦7♣ but DJekaMD's Q♣9♠ top pair was in the lead. The A♠ turn and 6♠ river completed the board as we had ourselves a champion! tender_mia pocketed $2,400.63 following the deal as DJekaMD became the toast of Moldova, winning $2,951.52 and the MicroMillions title!
