MicroMillions 4: playyer85 powers through Event #42 field ($5.50 NLHE)

He who gets luckiest last wins? She who flips well survives? Tournament grinders know it's so much more than that, but it's also exactly that. It's arduous enough to plow through a field the size of a small town to get to the final table, but one lost coinflip, one flopped kicker, one desperation shove gone bad so often means the end. In tonight's massive MicroMillions $5.50 NLHE event, the win ultimately came down to one incredibly timed rush as playyer85 came from behind and rode the wave to victory.

21,472 players shook off the Monday blues and bought into Event #42, creating a $107,360 prize pool. 2,700 spots were paid with first place set to earn $10,750.10. A trio of Red Spades joined the action including Martin Hruby, Kevin "WizardOfAhhs" Thurman, and Tyler "frosty012" Frost, who cashed in 1,024th place.

Blinds were up to 300,000/600,000 with ten players remaining. Dealt 3♠3♣ under the gun, jack17 moved in for his last 4.2 million, but rand headlong into FIKIF's T♠T♦ in the big blind. Jack17 couldn't find a miracle on the board and went out on the final table bubble.

Seat 3: MyScarHand (11,792,465 in chips)

Seat 6: FIKIF (11,658,958 in chips)
Seat 7: SirSh@ke (4,309,085 in chips)
Seat 8: lukasxoox (26,137,218 in chips)
Seat 9: itssss (8,497,266 in chips)

SirSh@ke and puhai peter out

Seven hands in to the final table, the action folded around to SirSh@ke in the small blind. Holding only 2.24 million, SirSh@ke moved in with 6♦8♠ and lukasxoox called the additional 1.44 million with 6♥4♠ in the big blind. The 4♦2♦J♦ flop gave SirSh@ke a flush draw but lukasxoox's middle pair held up to eliminate SirSh@ke in ninth place.

Short-stacked itssss caught a break when he doubled through lukasxoox, his A♣K♥ holding up against A♦3♠. A few orbits later, itssss got the best of lukasxoox again in a blind vs. blind battle. With the action folded around to him in the small blind, lukasxoox moved all-in for 34.1 million on a steal, but slammed into itssss's Q♦Q♣ in the big blind. Lukasxoox's 6♣T♠ did not improve and itssss doubled again, this time to 28.7 million.

Two hands later, puhai's run came to an end. Down to only 1.2 million at the 500k/1M level, puhai made a small blind shove with T♣2♠ and Skeptic24h called from the big with 7♥5♥. It was all over on the J♥8♥3♥ flop as Skeptic24h made a flush and puhai hit the rail in eighth place.

Blind vs. blind bloodletting

Puhai's elimination left FIKIF as the table short stack. When roxieforu05 moved in from the small blind for her last 11.4 million, FIKIF made an easy call with A♦J♠ only to be shown pocket nines. FIKIF did not improve, the board running out T♥6♥4♥T♣4♣ to eliminate him in seventh place. Roxieforu05 moved up to 23 million, good for second in chips, but saw those gains slip away on the very next hand. Playyer85 shoved for 11.6 million with 7♠7♥ and roxieforu05 called with A♣Q♣, but lost the flip as playyer85 flopped two pair and rivered a boat to snag the 25.5 million pot.

Playyer85 continued to roll, taking out MyScarHand a short time later. For the fourth time in a row at this final table, an elimination came out of a blind vs. blind hand, MyScarHand shoving 3.7 million with J♠7♥ and playyer85 looking him up with K♦9♣ in the big blind. Playyer85 flopped a king and MyScarHand was out in sixth.

Chop it five ways

Five-handed play continued just long enough for roxieforu05 to double up, her pocket fours holding up against lukasxoox's pocket deuces. With the blinds now up to 600K/1.2M, most of the field was hovering around 20 BB and everyone agreed to pause the action to discuss a deal. Here's a look at how they stacked up:

itssss - 26,789,064
playyer85 - 24,632,936
Skeptic24h - 21,939,452
roxieforu05 - 20,632,936
lukasxoox - 13,075,537

The final five had a quick, painless negotiation and agreed to a chip count chop. With everyone guaranteed at least $5,500 and $1,000 still up for grabs, cards went back in the air.

Lukasxoox lassos three

Lukasxoox didn't waste any time getting his last 11 big blinds in, calling Skeptic24h's shove with A♠7♥. Skeptic24h had the lead with 8♥8♦, but lukasxoox flopped an ace and turned trips to double to 25 million. Two hands later, Skeptic24h reclaimed those chips when his pocket queens held up against lukasxoox's A♣3♣. This time, lukasxoox let Skeptic24h keep those chips warm for a few orbits before making a button shove for 14.1 million with 9♦T♥. Skeptic24h called from the big blind with A♥J♣, but lukasxoox flopped a ten and doubled to 29.9 million.

On the next deal, roxieforu05 opened for 3.5 million from UTG and lukasxoox shoved for 29.7 million right behind her. Skeptic24h called all-in for 8.5 million from the small blind and roxieforu05 called off her remaining 13.5 million.

roxieforu05 K♥K♣
lukasxoox A♣8♣
Skeptic24h 3♣3♠

Roxieforu05 was no doubt horrified to watch the flop fall 8♠8♥7♠, making lukasxoox trip eights. Only a king could save her and only a three could save Skeptic24h, but the 5♠ and 2♥ fell instead. Lukasxoox scored a double knockout, elimnating Skeptic24h in fifth ($6,734.37) and roxieforu05 in fourth ($6,557.01).

Lukasxoox's rampage continued as he picked up A♣Q♠ and opened for a min-raise to 2.8 million. His old nemesis itssss three-bet shoved for 17 million, but his A♦3♦ was dominated. Lukasxoox's hand held, the board running out 7♣6♥2♣4♦A♥ to send itssss home in third place. Itssss may have finished third, but he took home the second-largest share of the prize pool at $7,392.26 thanks to the deal.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 4: playyer85 (30,273,011 in chips)
Seat 8: lukasxoox (77,086,989 in chips)

The shortest stack when the five-handed deal was made, lukasxoox came into heads-up play with a 2.5 to 1 chip lead. He won eight of the first nine hands to chip up to 86.7 million before running into a spot of trouble. A preflop raising war broke out, playyer85 four-bet shoving for his last 20.4 million with A♦K♠. Lukasxoox called with A♣T♣, but a king hit the flop to double playyer85 to 41.3 million.

Lukasxoox set to work again and ground his stack back up to 75.3 million, but playyer85 once again undid all his work in one hand. All-in and trailing with A♦3♦ against A♠J♥, playyer85 flopped a three and hung on to win the 64 million pot.

Two hands later, playyer85 raked in another 31 million when he moved lukasxoox off a Q♠J♥6♠ flop. Now playyer85 was the one with 78 million, while lukasxoox was sitting on only 29.3 million.

Playyer85 continued to grow his lead, but ultimately had to get lucky to close out this win. After limping in with 7♦8♦ on the button, playyer85 called lukasxoox's big blind shove, but outflopped his A♥2♥ by hitting two pair:

Congratulations to playyer85 on riding a late-game surge to the winner's circle. He picked up $8,139.07 for the win while runner-up lukasxoox earned $5,531.65.
