MicroMillions 5: From two bucks to three large, Joshawha wins Event #24 ($2.20 NLHE)

Turning tiny investments into huge sums of money is exactly what the MicroMillions is all about. Navigating your way through tens of thousands of players and enjoying a championship structure for the price of a cup of coffee. That's precisely what we saw today with Canada carrying their WSOP form onto the virtual tables to claim the top two spots with Joshawha emerging triumphant.

It was Event #24 of the MicroMillions 5 series which saw 14,879 players come out for a $2.20 No Limit Holdem event. The prize pool was $29,758 to almost double the advertised guarantee, with the top 2,025 players finishing in the money. A min-cash was worth $3.27 but that narrowly eluded soluco from Brazil who was the unfortunate bubble in 2,026th place.

We haven't see too many members of Team PokerStars in the MicroMillions so far, but we spotted one today with the "Flying Dutchman" Marcel Luske picking up a $3.86 cash for 1,691st place.

After nine hours of toil, the final table bubble burst when the Misha Zrutin's pocket sixes were rivered by the king-seven of MartinN.1947 to see our final table of nine set:

Final Table Line up
Seat 1: viktor7120 (5,044,938 in chips)
Seat 2: LOPOV_28 (4,089,932 in chips)
Seat 3: Joshawha (10,602,852 in chips)
Seat 4: lazkan (6,537,430 in chips)
Seat 5: liana&ssnake (7,349,822 in chips)
Seat 6: sex pistol21 (4,516,737 in chips)
Seat 7: jilomu (12,406,848 in chips)
Seat 8: KirkMcDirt (13,166,293 in chips)
Seat 9: MartinN.1947 (10,680,148 in chips)

The final table blinds kicked off at 125k/250k with a 31,250 ante, so there was plenty of room to move for the short stacks, while KirkMcDirt and jilomu were well out in front. However it didn't take long to see our first all in, and it was a beauty, with viktor7120 surviving thanks to a remarkable river card:

viktor7120 was able to stay alive as LOPOV_28 couldn't recover. When LOPOV_28 shoved for five big blinds holding Q♣T♣ from middle position, sex pistol21 made the call in the big blind with A♥6♥ and it proved too strong on the board of 2♦3♠A♦K♣6♠. A disappointing end for LOPOV_28 who picked up $178.54 for 9th place.

viktor7120 continued to surge with another double up holding pocket eights against the ace-king of lazkan, but that momentum was brought to a shuddering halt the very next hand when viktor7120 was racing again with ace-queen against MartinN.1947's pocket sixes. An ace on the flop put viktor7120 in front but a devastating six-ball on the river gave MartinN.1947 the incredible double up and left viktor7120 crippled.

Moments later viktor7120 was all in and called in two spots, but we never got to see viktor7120's cards as the board of 6♠J♦T♣7♣4♥ was checked down by both Joshawha and KirkMcDirt, with Joshawha's T♦7♠ two pair good to take it down. A wild ride for viktor7120 was ended in 8th place for $267.82.

From there, the action came thick and fast with lazkan falling on the very next hand. From the small blind, lazkan moved all in for seven big blinds with K♥Q♣ and looked set for a big double up when liana&ssnake called in the big blind with K♣7♦ but the poker Gods were having some fun today as the board was spread 6♣2♠A♦3♠7♥. Another rough river blow sent lazkan to the rail in 7th place for a $520.76 score.

KirkMcDirt was a surprise elimination in 6th place as two big stacks went to war. Joshawha three-bet preflop and then fired a continuation bet on the T♦3♦9♥ flop. KirkMcDirt made the call before moving all in when the 7♥ fell on the turn. Joshawha made the call and opened A♦J♦ for the nut flush draw, inside straight draw and a couple of overcards, but incredibly ace-high was also in the lead as KirkMcDirt revealed K♣Q♥ for a straight draw with overcards. The river was the 8♦ to complete Joshawha's flush and remove KirkMcDirt in 6th place for $803.46 in prize money.

Again it only took one more hand for our next elimination. sex pistol21 three-bet jammed A♣7♣ but Joshawha was again the destroyer making the call with a dominant A♥J♠. This time, no surprises on the board of 6♣T♦K♠8♠2♦ left Joshawha's jack kicker to play and eliminate sex pistol21 in 5th place, turning a $2.20 investment into a four-figure return of $1,101.04.

MartinN.1947 was able to pull back some chips, making a flush against Joshawha and then continued that form with the elimination of jilomu. Three players saw a 8♦5♦5♥ flop where jilomu's bet was called by only MartinN.1947. The turn brought the Q♠ and jilomu checked to MartinN.1947 who made a bet, but jilomu responded with a check-raise all in. MartinN.1947 called with K♥Q♦ after floating the flop and catching top pair on the turn to better jilomu's 8♣9♣. The river 7♠ changed nothing, sending jilomu to collect $1,398.62 for 4th place.

The three remaining players decided to look at the numbers but with the short-stacked liana&ssnake wanting more, and the two big stack unwilling to budge, the cards were quickly back in the air.

liana&ssnake was able to extract some revenge from the non-deal with a big double up on the resumption of play:

However liana&ssnake couldn't make it two in a row. A three-bet shove by liana&ssnake with 6♠6♣ was called by Joshawha with A♣T♠ and the race was on. The board ran out A♠7♥2♠4♣K♠ with an ace appearing to spell the end for liana&ssnake in 3rd place for a nice $1,993.78 return.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 3: Joshawha (40,355,482 in chips)
Seat 9: MartinN.1947 (34,039,518 in chips)

It was an all-Canadian battle and the two immediately paused to take another look at the numbers. After Joshawha squeezed a little more out of MartinN.1947, the two agreed to terms with $300 and the title left in the middle to play for.

MartinN.1947 got the early ascendency and Joshawha was able to fight back before the final hand saw all the chips in preflop. MartinN.1947 pushed with A♣6♦ but Joshawha wasn't going anywhere with T♣T♦. MartinN.1947 needed an ace but it didn't arrive on the 2♣Q♥4♣8♦5♦ board. MartinN.1947 took home a nice $2,900.00 for 2nd place with Joshawha claiming the MicroMillions title and $3,427.71 in prize money. Congratulations!
