MicroMillions 5: hvto survives six-way deal to win Event #14 ($3.30+R NLHE)

Rebuy tournaments are not everyone's cup of tea, but who doesn't love the idea of a $3.30 buy-in tournament creating a monstrous prize pool where the winner can potentially lock up a five-figure score? hvto certainly enjoyed it in today's MicroMillions event and although a six-way deal prevented a five-figure score, hvto was able to go all the way to win the MicroMillions title.

Event #14 of the MicroMillions 5 series was a $3.30 No Limit Holdem Rebuy event which attracted a field of 9,736 players. They combined for 13,479 rebuys and another 6,572 add-ons to produce a prize pool of $89,361. Pretty healthy for a $3.30 buy-in don't you think?

The top 1,260 players would return a profit (we hope!) with Mr-M3thoD bubbling the $16.08 min-cash. It would take over nine hours for the final table to form after the elimination of tonymago7. Unfortunately tonymago7's efforts came to a frustrating end after sitting out for some reason from around a dozen players left. tonymago7's stack of six big blinds melted away before finally blinding out on the final table bubble to leave our final nine as follows:

Final Table Line up
Seat 1: bushi555 (8,816,334 in chips)
Seat 2: BETONG187 (33,090,364 in chips)
Seat 3: knatssip (33,809,574 in chips)
Seat 4: dexitoo (22,732,356 in chips)
Seat 5: alanzao (12,335,154 in chips)
Seat 6: houdinimion (11,798,251 in chips)
Seat 7: TheRoye (10,367,688 in chips)
Seat 8: mohican22 (8,429,855 in chips)
Seat 9: hvto (23,985,424 in chips)

As is usually the case a big rebuy tournament, there were some impressive stacks on the table with knatssip and BETONG187 out in front. The final table blinds started at 300k/600k/75k so there was a bit of room for our short stacks to move.

The two big stacks collided in the first significant pot of the final table. BETONG187 raised with ace-deuce and knatssip got a little tricky with a preflop flat-call with pocket kings. An ace on the flop ensured that knatssip could slow down as BETONG187 took over the chip lead.

Pocket kings worked a little better for bushi555 who doubled through hvto's suited king-jack, while another short stack in alanzao also doubled with ace-jack proving too strong for knatssip's king-queen.

The slide for knatssip continued as TheRoye got in on the act with a double up with pocket sixes against ace-ten to ensure that we maintained a full complement of players at the table.

hvto was a chance to be the first on the rail, after some aggressive play, but the poker Gods had other ideas:

bushi555 was crippled and all in next hand from the small blind with 6♠4♠ against knatssip's 6♦6♣. The board ran out 3♦A♦Q♥K♠9♣ to see bushi555 crash and burn in 9th place for $692.54 in prize money.

houdinimion found a double with ace-deuce against dexitoo's suited king-queen, but the TheRoye couldn't do likewise. TheRoye shoved the button for about seven big blinds with a solid A♠T♦ but mohican22 called in the small blind with a dominant A♦J♥. The board of 8♠7♠2♣6♣2♦ brought no joy for TheRoye who was out in 8th place for $982.97.

knatssip's final table went from bad to worse when a cooler of a hand saw alanzao run pocket queens into knatssip's pocket aces, only to find a third lady spike on the flop in a devastating blow.

But it would be houdinimion next to depart, and again it was brutal:

Pocket kings cracked but a two-outer left an unlucky houdinimion on the rail in 7th place for $1,787.22.

The six remaining players were then keen to look at the numbers which is understandable when there were five figures up top for a $3.30 buy-in tournament. After a couple of attempts at finding the deal box, and then a few squabbles, the six eventually came to terms and a deal was struck, leaving $1,000 and the title in the middle to play for.

Upon resumption knatssip was able to land a triple up, rivering a pair of aces holding ace-king to better hvto's pocket queens and BETONG187's pocket eights.

The big pots continued to flow with mohican22 on the receiving end to be sent to the rail in 6th place. mohican22 picked the wrong time to make a move after shoving all in on the turn with A♥7♥ on a board of 4♦2♠J♣3♦. alanzao made the call and had mohican22 stone-cold dead after tabling 6♠5♣ for the straight. The river was the 8♣ to see mohican22 pocket $6,434 which was close to $4,000 more than the scheduled payout for 6th place.

alanzao was into the chip lead, as BETONG187 headed in the other direction. First, BETONG187 was crippled with A♠2♠ against knatssip's A♣T♠ on a board of 8♥2♣A♥8♦5♣, before BETONG187's last chips were all in next hand with T♥7♣. dexitoo was happy to take it on with K♦7♥ which remained in front on the 8♣A♥4♠3♣9♥ board. A great deal saw BETONG187 receive the largest pay day of this final table, collecting $8,486.84 for 5th place.

An enormous pot saw hvto double up with ace-queen against dexitoo's ace-seven to take over the chip advantage before the rollercoaster ride of knatssip came to an end. In a battle of the blinds, hvto jammed the small blind with K♣7♥ and the short-stacked knatssip called it off with A♠4♣. knatssip was looking set for a double until the river landed on the board of Q♦9♥T♥8♥K♠ to give hvto the only pair to take it down. knatssip had to be content with $4,710.83 for 4th place.

The action didn't slow with the three remaining players. dexitoo landed a double up with ace-three against alanzao's king-ten, before the two chopped an interesting pot with a suck-re-suck:

When dexitoo and hvto saw a flop of 9♥T♠3♥, a raising war erupted with neither player even holding a pair! dexitoo bet and hvto moved all in with J♣Q♥ for an open-ended straight draw and a couple of overcards as dexitoo made the call with K♥8♥ for flush draw and single overcard. The 6♠ turn card changed nothing but the 8♦ river completed the straight for hvto to send dexitoo to the rail in 3rd place for $4,982.71 in prize money.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 5: alanzao (40,497,844 in chips)
Seat 9: hvto (124,867,156 in chips)

A three-to-one chip lead for hvto was enough to seal the deal in just two hands of heads-up play. The chips were in preflop with alanzao holding a relatively strong A♠8♠ but that was notched as hvto found 9♠A♦. The board fell 9♥6♠2♣4♠7♦ to see alanzao collect $8,252.16 for 2nd place as hvto took down the MicroMillions title and $7,316.50 in prize money. Congratulations!
