MicroMillions 5: Quick as a flash, flaashy wins Event #34 ($5.50 NLHE 6-Max Turbo Shootout)

If you're looking for a fun way to spend a few hours then a turbo-charged six-handed shootout might be the thing for you. Win five sit & go's in a row is all that it would take to turn a fiver into over five grand in the MicroMillions. There was plenty of action and excitement in this one with Lithuania's flaashy turning down a deal four-handed as the short stack before recovering to win the lion's share and the title.

Event #34 of the MicroMillions 5 schedule was a $5.50 No Limit Holdem Six-Max Turbo Shootout event. It was a mouthful to say, but it was a quick-fire way to get through a field of 7,729 players for a shot at MicroMillions glory. The prize pool of $38,645.00 was virtually double the guarantee with the top 1,296 players to receive a profit.

To cash the players simply had to win one Shootout table. That was worth $11.59. Sounds easy enough, but it would take a total of four wins over five hours of play to reach the final table of six:

Final Table Line up
Seat 1: samkicker (5,000 in chips)
Seat 2: Dsmalls91 (5,000 in chips)
Seat 3: RyderRock (5,000 in chips)
Seat 4: TSaunders10 (5,000 in chips)
Seat 5: didiDimka (5,000 in chips)
Seat 6: flaashy (5,000 in chips)

With the Shootout format, each player started the final table with the same number of chips with the blinds kicking off at 25/50.

Dsmalls91 grabbed the early lead, making a straight with pocket jacks against samkicker, but that advantage was soon decimated when Dsmalls91 ran K♠K♦ into the A♦A♣ of TSaunders10 in just the second level of play. When TSaunders10 made a backdoor flush against RyderRock, TSaunders10 was up to almost 12,000 in chips with every other player below starting stack.

RyderRock was unable to recover from the short stack, committing with 9♦9♠ against flaashy's A♥T♥. An ace arrived on a board of A♠7♦K♦5♣4♥ to see RyderRock rocked in 6th place for $541.03.

Dsmalls91 got back into contention with a cooler flop of T♠A♦T♥ seeing Dsmalls91's T♦J♥ outkick didiDimka's T♣9♣ for a big double up.

didiDimka was on the short stack and moved all in for around 16 big blinds, following a raise and a call, holding Q♣J♠ but the timing was unfortunate as samkicker made the call with K♣K♥. It was all but over on the flop as the board ran out 3♣K♦6♠J♣8♠ to see didiDimka depart in 5th place for a tidy $966.12 return.

The action slowed with four players left as the quartet threw up the idea of pausing to look at a potential deal. Three were keen but flaashy was adamant to play on. It proved a wise decision as a short time later the following hand unfolded:

flaashy's aces had been out-flopped by Dsmalls91's two pair but the paired board on the turn gave flaashy a better two pair to scoop the pot. Dsmalls91 was left to head off in 4th place for $1,739.02.

With newly found chips in hand, flaashy was happier to look at numbers now, and with the three remaining players pretty even in chips they quickly agreed to an ICM chop with $400 left in the middle to play for.

When play resumed, it was flaashy who again gained momentum, winning a couple of nice pots without showdown, before getting three streets of value against TSaunders10 on a board of 2♠Q♦8♣6♣9♦ with J♠T♦ for the rivered gutshot straight.

TSaunders10 was on the short stack as samkicker found a double up with ace-ten against flaashy's queen-ten on a ten-high flop to take over the lead.

TSaunders10 collected a double up to stay alive but couldn't make it two after shoving the small blind for nine big blinds with an ambitious 5♦2♦ as flaashy made the call in the big blind with Q♠T♠. The board arrived K♠7♠K♣9♠6♦ to give flaashy a flush which was well and truly enough to beat five-high as TSaunders10 collected a post-deal total of $3,771.91 for 3rd place.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: samkicker (10,701 in chips)
Seat 6: flaashy (19,299 in chips)

flaashy held a near two-to-one chip lead and was the more aggressive player to extend that advantage in the early goings before the final hand was dealt. flaashy opened with a raise before samkicker moved all in with J♣7♣. flaashy called with A♣Q♥ which held true on the board of K♣2♠8♦5♣9♠. A nice deal for samkicker netted $3,579.31 for 2nd place as flaashy collected $4,053.01 and the title of MicroMillions champion. Congratulations!
