MicroMillions 5: treyptmenace antes up victory in Event #25 ($3.30 NLHE Ante Up)
One of the more unique tournament disciplines during the PokerStars MicroMillions 5 series is the Ante Up format. It's not one that most people would play regularly, and offers a different dynamic at the tables. The blinds are always fixed but the antes increase dramatically and those who adjust best would ultimately come out on top. Today that was treyptmenace from Uruguay who conquered the massive field to turn pocket change into nearly three thousand dollars.
The $3.30 No Limit Holdem Ante Up tournament was Event #25 of the MicroMillions 5 schedule and brought together a field of 6,292 players. The prize pool reached $18,876 which was close to doubling the guarantee. The top 810 players would receive a profit but that wouldn't include Canadian dorloff147 who sadly bubbled in 811th place.
The remaining players locked up at least $5.28 but they all had their eye on the top prize of almost $3,000. As the players dropped away, the play slowed up, and then crawled as the final table approached. The format allowed the players to take their time and pick their spots, and this was a trend that continued through an arduous final table.
Eventually the final table bubble burst when Esbjornn shoved A♠9♠ into gladeira's A♣T♥. A ten on the flop was enough to see our final table of nine set as follows:
Final Table Line up
Seat 1: treyptmenace (7,818,068 in chips)
Seat 2: Necro130 (5,767,897 in chips)
Seat 3: pannek84 (1,562,744 in chips)
Seat 4: PKENL (2,929,939 in chips)
Seat 5: maxnfcnt6 (837,029 in chips)
Seat 6: gladeira (7,273,103 in chips)
Seat 7: P@r@mP@rc@ (1,479,668 in chips)
Seat 8: smekintosh (750,652 in chips)
Seat 9: shimiken (3,040,900 in chips)
The antes started at 70,000 with an orbit or two passing before pannek84 was the first to go. Necro130 opened with a raise before pannek84 three-bet shoved all in with J♦J♣. Necro130 made the call with K♠T♠ and found a king on the board of Q♣5♣K♥2♠8♣ to send pannek84 to the rail in 9th place for $151.00.
shimiken found a double up with pocket aces against gladeira's pocket jacks, and then carried that momentum to eliminate maxnfcnt6. The chips were all in on a flop of A♣J♦K♠ with shimiken pushing with A♥Q♣ and maxnfcnt6 calling with tournament life on the line holding K♦T♦. The turn was the J♠ and river the 8♦ to see maxnfcnt6 depart in 8th place for $235.95.
Both PKENL and smekintosh were getting short, but only one would survive in the following three-way all-in clash:
Necro130 tried for the double KO, but smekintosh made a straight as PKENL's suited connector couldn't connect. PKENL was sent to the rail in 7th place for $424.71.
P@r@mP@rc@ doubled up with pocket queens against Necro130's ace-queen, but Necro130 turned that around the very next hand as the two went to war once again. The chips were in preflop with P@r@mP@rc@ cold four-bet shoving 9♣9♥ but Necro130 made the call with J♦J♠. The board ran out 5♠T♥4♠2♠2♣ to leave P@r@mP@rc@ to collect $613.47 for 6th place.
smekintosh was next to depart after shoving from under the gun with a rather marginal J♥7♥. The action folded around to gladeira in the big blind who made the call with Q♣K♦ and it held through the 3♠6♥T♦T♠K♣ board. smekintosh was left to depart in 5th place for a $802.23 score.
treyptmenace got in on the act with a double up with A♦7♣ through Necro130's K♥8♥ before striking another blow with a turned flush against Necro130's two pair. But Necro130 was able to get some back with a double up holding pocket jacks against shimiken's ace-king.
The pressure was then on shimiken to make something happen but the luck didn't go the way of the Japanese player:
Necro130 got involved with a rather creative Q♥6♣, flopped a pair and a flush draw, and then rivered trips to better shimiken's pair of sevens to see shimiken pick up $1,066.49 for 4th place.
A few hands later and three became two with the elimination of gladeira. The chips were in preflop with gladeira in great shape to double up with A♠K♣ against Necro130's A♥J♥, but the board of J♣7♣7♦4♣J♦ smacked Necro130 with a full house to crush gladeira in 3rd place for $1,554.43 in prize money.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: treyptmenace (14,385,480 in chips)
Seat 2: Necro130 (17,074,520 in chips)
The chips were pretty even and the pots were exchanged back and forth before the final hand was dealt.
treyptmenace opened with a raise before Necro130 put in a three-bet. treyptmenace called and they saw a flop of K♥7♠3♠. Necro130 made a continuation bet and treyptmenace called as the 8♣ hit the turn. Necro130 fired again and treyptmenace made another call to see the 7♦ complete the board. Necro130 checked it over and treyptmenace bet enough to put his opponent all in. Necro130 made the call and tabled a creative 8♥2♠ for eights and sevens, but treyptmenace showed K♦5♥ for kings and sevens to take the pot and the title! A great run by Necro130 collected $2,199.05 for 2nd place as treyptmenace is our MicroMillions champion, winning $2,955.99 in prize money. Congratulations!
