MicroMillons5: hockeyaces ices the field in Event #15 ($5.50 FL Hold'em Turbo)

Arriving at the final table with only four big bets, hockeyaces' prospects of a win looked grim. Polijavi1 had twice the stack of his closest competitor, AA ABSOLUT, and the two of them controlled 57% of the chips in play between them. However, as the short stacks fought for survival and jumps up the pay ladder, hockeyaces picked up the perfect hand at the perfect time and doubled through the chip leader. Polijavi1 took a hard and fast tumble while hockeyaces rose to the top, capturing his first MicroMillions title and turning his $5.50 buy-in into nearly $1,500.

The first of two limit hold'em tournaments in the MicroMillions 5 drew 2,092 players and more than doubled its $5K guarantee with a final prizepool of $10,460.00. 270 places were paid with first place set to earn $1,674.71 off only a $5.50 investment.

The tournament reached the money after two hours and twenty minutes of play and was down to its final ten players only eighty minutes later. With the betting limits up to 100,000/200,000, aen rikr had all but 23,000 committed in the 100,000 big blind. Jubacca111 made a button raise and aen rikr called all-in, his 5♦T♣ up against A♥J♠. Jubacca111's ace-high held up, the board running out Q♣Q♦7♦K♦8♥ to eliminate aen rikr and send us to the final table.

Live by presto, die by presto

Niikii1979 picked up 5♥5♣ on the first hand of the final table and committed his last 84,112. Polijavi1 raised to 240,000 from middle position and AA ABSOLUT came along from the small blind to make it a three-way pot. The flop landed J♥8♥3♣ and AA ABSOLUT check-folded to polijavi1's 120,000 bet. Polijavi1 revealed K♦J♠ for top pair and made top two on the turn when the K♥ fell. The river was the 9♠ and niikii1979 was out in ninth place, earning $104.60 for his efforts.

By Hand #3, MIKE491 was trying to drum up support for a deal, but was yet to find any takers. Meanwhile, rastafari898 was down to his last 126,000 and moved all-in from early position with 2♠2♣. Jubacca111 made a successful isolation raise to 280,000 and revealed 5♣5♥. This time, presto not only held up, but made a full house, the board running out Q♦9♥5♠7♥7♦ to end rastafari898's run in eighth place ($183.05).

Three hands later, Gündogan picked up A♣T♥ and three-bet shoved for 295,000 from the small blind. Winner1314 called with pocket nines and made queens full on the turn to send Gündogan home in seventh ($261.50).

hockeyaces scores a quick goal

Although winner1314 got a bit of a reprieve on that hand, three minutes later he was down to only 267,000. Winner1314 doubled to 614,000 when his A♦4♣ held up against jubacca111's 3♠6♦, but would not survive the next deal. The action folded to jubacca111 in the small blind and he raised to 320,000. Winner1314 three-bet and jubacca111 called. Winner1314's remaining 134,000 went in on the Q♦5♦4♠ flop and jubacca111 called with Q♥9♠. Winner1314's pocket tens were in dire shape and did not improve on the 5♥ turn or the 8♥ river. For sixth place, winner1314 collected $366.10.

The field down to five, polijavi1 had a substantial chip lead with 5.4 million. Hockeyaces and AA ABSOLUT had 1.5 million apiece, MIKE491 held 1.3 million and jubacca111 was the short stack with 710,500. However, the tide turned in favor of hockeyaces when he picked up pocket aces and doubled through polijavi1:

Three hands later, jubacca111 picked up A♥Q♦ and moved all-in for 310,000 on the button. Polijavi1 called from the big blind with K♥T♠, but out flopped jubacca111 when the first three fell T♣9♣4♦. Jubacca111 needed an ace or a queen to survive but blanked on the turn and river, ending his run in fifth place ($470.70).

polijavi1 pilfered

Within three hands, polijavi1 went from chip leader to railbird. First, he doubled AA ABSOLUT when his Q♣5♣ turned queens up vs.K♠J♣, then did the same for MIKE491 when he committed the last of his chips on a T♦6♣4♣7♦ board. Poljavi1 called with A♣2♣ for the nut flush draw, but missed his outs on the river against MIKE491's pocket nines. Down to 2.75 million with the betting limits up to 250,000/500,000 polijavi1 picked up 8♥8♠ and capped the betting preflop vs. hockeyaces. They capped it again on the J♥T♣2♠ flop, polijavi1's last 753,000 going in on the Q♠ turn. Hockeyaces revealed A♣K♦ for a turned straight and polijavi1 was drawing dead. For fourth place, he took home $671.00.

Moments later, the final three agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. here's a look at how they stacked up at the time:

hockeyaces - 5,885,186
MIKE491 - 2,902,968
AA ABSOLUT - 1,671,846

Negotiations to split the rest of the prize pool took all of three minutes. With $100 still up for grabs for the winner, cards went back in the air.

AA ABSOLUT didn't waste any time getting his chips in the middle. On the first hand back, he three-bet to 900,000 pre and led out on the Q♠6♠3♥ flop. MIKE491 called and the 9♦ hit the turn. AA ABSOLUT bet his last 472,000 and MIKE491 called, his K♥T♣ outkicking AA ABSOLUT's K♣8♠. The turn and river put a pair of nines on board and MIKE491's ten kicker played, eliminating AA ABSOLUT in third place ($1,126.41).

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 4: hockeyaces (5,885,186 in chips)
Seat 6: MIKE491 (4,574,814 in chips)

Hockeyaces quickly pulled away when he hit middle pair on a A♣5♥3♦ flop and rivered trip fives, good for a 4.8 million pot. Up to 8.3 million vs. MIKE491's 2.2 million, hockeyaces picked up another big pot when his Q♣2♦ made two pair on the flop and rivered threes full of deuces. Left with only 675,000, MIKE491 doubled to 1.35 million when his K♠5♥ flopped a king against hockeyaces' 5♣T♥ and three hands later he doubled again, his K♦6♠ holding up against J♥8♥.

MIKE491 was back up to 2.7 million, but two hands later, hockeyaces closed it out. Echoing the hand that turned it around for him in the first place, hockeyaces found pocket aces at the same time MIKE491 found one to go on with A♣Q♠:

Congratulations to Germany's hockeyaces on earning his first MicroMillions title! He banked $1,499.13 from the three-way deal while runner-up MIKE491 earned $1,245.77.
