MicroMillions 6: only1westie comes back to win Event #15 ($5.50 FL Holdem Turbo)
Limit Holdem has been slowly going out of favour over the last decade, but why is that the case? It's the game that many of us grew up on and built the foundations of our game. Is the game too slow? Well, perhaps if every Limit Holdem event was turbo charged like today's MicroMillions event then we'd there would be no chance of boredom!
One player who enjoyed it today was the United Kingdom's only1westie. After being down to less than two bets on our MicroMillions final table, only1westie was able to rapidly recover to go on to claim a thrilling victory.
A healthy field of 2,208 turned out for Event #15 of the MicroMillions 6 series, the $5.50 Limit Holdem Turbo Event. The prize pool of $11,040 comfortably surpassed the advertised guarantee of $5,000.
Tyler Frost was the only red spade we could spot in the field, with the Team PokerStars Online member finishing mid-pack in 990th place.
The top 288 players finished in the money which was reached in a little over two hours of play as tykhe13 from the United Kingdom bubbled in 289th place. With at least $8.83 locked up for their efforts, the remaining players powered their way towards the final table.
It would take just over three and a half hours for the 2,208 starters to be reduced to a final table of nine. Who said limit poker was slow? When dondan777's jack-ten couldn't improve to better ace-king, dondan777 was out in 10th place as the final table was set as follows:
Final Table Line up
Seat 1: scar_bro187 (2,204,562 in chips)
Seat 2: alirka1 (1,019,766 in chips)
Seat 3: only1westie (354,249 in chips)
Seat 4: FlushCroatia (1,337,819 in chips)
Seat 5: crundy (281,482 in chips)
Seat 6: maaloks1985 (1,657,428 in chips)
Seat 7: BruceLaw2011 (2,108,862 in chips)
Seat 8: just joe89 (731,188 in chips)
Seat 9: feelinfreely (1,344,644 in chips)
The final table blinds started off at 60k/120k so most players were in position where one mistake and it would be all over.
crundy barely had enough to cover a single raise, and committed on the first hand of the final table with K♦Q♣. just joe89 made the call with A♥8♦ which held through the board of J♠3♠8♣2♠6♠. crundy picked up $104.88 for 9th place.
alirka1 landed a double up with ace-queen doubling through feelinfreely's ace-nine, but feelinfreely got those chips back with the elimination of just joe89. Three players saw a flop of 7♥T♦7♦ with just joe89 leading out from the small blind with a bet. feelinfreely and the preflop raisor FlushCroatia both made the call as the 9♠ hit the turn. just joe89 moved all in with feelinfreely surviving a disconnect to make the call with FlushCroatia coming along as well to see the 2♣ river. The two live players checked and feelinfreely tabled T♠8♦ for two pair which was good enough to scoop the pot. just joe89 finished in 8th place for $187.68.
Moments later, a double elimination would see our seven reduced to just five:
The action flop produced an overpair and a set, but it was feelinfreely's pair and nut flush draw that spiked the flush on the turn to send two players packing. alirka1 was the short stack, taking $276.00 for 7th place while FlushCroatia received $386.40 for 6th place.
feelinfreely was out to a big chip lead with several of the others under real pressure from the blinds. One of those was only1westie who was down to just two bets but managed to find a couple of double ups to get back into contention.
maaloks1985 got in on the act, with a double up holding ace-king against feelinfreely's ace-four, as BruceLaw2011 was blinding out. When the blinds rolled around BruceLaw2011 was forced to commit what was left with 8♣5♥ from the small blind as feelinfreely tabled a dominant Q♣8♠. The board rolled off 4♣9♣J♦9♠6♠ to see BruceLaw2011 out in 5th place for $496.80 in prize money.
The biggest pot of the final table to that point would see scar_bro187 find a fortunate double up after getting all-in with pocket eights on a jack-high flop against feelinfreely's top pair. However running clubs gave scar_bro187 a fortunate flush to stay alive.
Those chips didn't stay long as next hand scar_bro187 picked the wrong time to triple-barrel bluff as only1westie had turned a full house.
The chips were starting to even up across the top three, while maaloks1985 was again struggling to get involved. Eventually the blinds caught hold and maaloks1985 was forced all in from the big blind with 8♠3♠. only1westie had that covered with A♣3♥ and improved further on the A♦K♣9♠J♦9♥ board. maaloks1985 collected $684.48 for 4th place.
It was feelinfreely's turn to double up when queen-jack caught a queen to better scar_bro187's ace-three, before an interesting hand would see all three players flop top pair and fireworks erupt:
feelinfreely caught two pair with the worse hand to triple up as only1westie collected the side pot after scar_bro187 made a nice lay down on the river.
However it would feelinfreely who would be next to go. The action was three-bet preflop before the chips went in on the Q♦2♥8♥ flop. only1westie only held 5♣A♠ for ace-high but that was ahead of feelinfreely's 4♥K♥ flush draw. The turn Q♠ and river 9♦ completed the board to leave only1westie's ace-high in front. feelinfreely would collect $993.60 for 3rd place.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: scar_bro187 (1,546,880 in chips)
Seat 3: only1westie (9,493,120 in chips)
With the blinds at 300k/600k by this point, scar_bro187 could afford no mistakes, and that's what happened when scar_bro187 won the first six heads-up pots, including a big double up after flopping two pair with queen-deuce.
scar_bro187 took over the lead, but only1westie won the next two pots to have the chips virtually dead level as the final hand went down.
It was a hand that was capped preflop, which meant that neither could afford to let it go. Action was three-bet on the flop, before only1westie led out with a bet on the turn before being all in on the river on a board of 4♠2♦5♥2♥9♣. When the bet was called, only1westie must've thought his 4♦A♣ was beat but scar_bro187 had over-committed with J♥K♥ for just king-high to give only1westie the victory. scar_bro187 wins $1,324.80 for 2nd place with only1westie making a remarkable comeback to claim the MicroMillions title and $1,767.57 in prize money. Congratulations!
