MicroMillions 7: Fduchun crushes 4-max final in Event #74 ($8.80 NLHE 4-Max Super-Knockout)

4-Max no-limit is an all-out assault. There's no early position foxhole to hide in and the blinds ensure you a stake in at least 50% of the pots. And while many NLHE events have average final table stacks in the 25-30 big blind range, 4-Max tends to play much deeper, with an emphasis on post-flop play rather than preflop maneuvering. Even with three tables to go in Event #74, Fduchun had a stranglehold on the chip lead and by the time we reached the final table he had close to 50% of the chips in play. Although ~koJKin~ made a remarkable comeback from less than a million in chips and gave him a run for his money heads-up, Fduchun came away with the "W," made 25 knockouts, and banked over $4,000 in prize money.

Drawing 9,332 players, Event #74 more than doubled its $30K guarantee with a $78,388.80 total prize pool. $39,194.40 went to the regular prize pool and the other $39,194.40 made up the bounty pool. 1,200 places were paid with $3,943.57 set aside for first place. Team Online's Grzegorz "DaWarsaw" Mikielewicz was the lone Red Spade in the field, but he finished outside the money.

Blinds were up to 70,000/140,000 when two simultaneous eliminations sent us to the final table. On one three-handed table, chip leader Fduchun opened for 280,000 on the button and Dangord_AA shoved for his last 366,387 from the small blind. Dangord_AA had the preflop lead with K♦T♣ vs. J♠9♠, but Fduchun hit top pair when the flop came down J♦7♦4♥. Dangord_AA picked up a flush draw with the 5♦ turn, but the river Q♠ missed, sending him to the rail in sixth place.

Meanwhile on the other three-handed table, La Moscow open-shoved for 1.11 million from the small blind and rytaoo called from the big. La Moscow, too had the best hand with A♦J♣, but rytaoo's K♠9♠ turned a king-high flush on the Q♣Q♠4♠8♠6♣ board. La Moscow departed in fifth place ($542.05) and the final table was set.

Final table chip counts

Seat 1: ~koJKin~ (8,862,936 in chips)
Seat 2: nelu_179 (5,224,199 in chips)
Seat 3: Fduchun (22,502,971 in chips)
Seat 4: rytaoo (10,069,894 in chips)

~koJKin~ loses ground

~koJKin~ lost almost half his stack in the early going, but stemmed the bleeding when he doubled through Fduchun with A♦K♠ vs. K♣5♠. However, Fduchun resumed his free-fall, slipping below 2 million when he folded to Fduchun's river bet on a Q♣8♣4♣2♥9♠ board. ~koJKin~ was down to only 642,872 when he open-shoved from UTG with A♦9♠. Nelu_179 flat-called on the button and Fduchun shoved from the small blind. Nelu_179 gave up his hand and Fduchun revealed 8♠8♥. ~koJKin~ hit trips on the K♣9♣9♥ flop and tripled to 2.22 million.

rytaoo slides, ~koJKin~ triple-doubles

Second-in-chips rytaoo lost half his stack to Fduchun when he fired three streets with an unimproved K♥T♦ on a 6♣2♣4♥2♣6♥ board. Fduchun's 6♦8♣ made trips on the river and he raked in the 12.2 million pot, leaving rytaoo below 6 million in chips.

Meanwhile, ~koJKin~ was back on the ropes with 1.34 million remaining. He found A♥T♥ in the small blind and three-bet shoved over Fduchun's 500,000 opening min-raise with K♣5♠. ~koJKin~ flopped a ten and turned trips, good for a double-up to 3 million.

Moments later, Fduchun opened again for 500,000 and ~klJKin~ looked down at A♣A♦ in the big blind. He three-bet to 1,000,000 and Fduchun called to see the J♣7♣2♦ flop. ~koJKin~ shoved for 1.82 million and Fduchun called, his K♦6♥ in dire shape. The Q♠ turn left Fduchun drawing dead and ~koJKin~ doubled again, this time to 5.9 million.

~koJKin~ wasn't done, though. Only four hands passed before Fduchun made a button min-raise and ~koJKin~ called from the big blind with 7♥8♠. ~koJKin~ hit an open-ended straight draw on the 9♠6♣4♥ flop and check-called Fduchun's 500,000 c-bet. The 5♦ turn was gin for ~koJKin~ and he checked his nine-high straight. Fduchun bet 1 million, and a raising war ensued, ending with the rest of ~koJKin~'s chips in the middle. Fduchun turned up 5♥6♥ for two pair and was still live going to the river, but it fell the 3♦ giving ~koJKin~ his third consecutive double-up. Down to less than a million in chips only seven minutes before, ~koJKin~ was now a comfortable second in chips with 10.5 million.

nelu_179 eliminated in fourth place

Four hands later, nelu_179 opened for a 4x raise to 1 million and ~koJKin~ once again looked down at A♦A♥. He three-bet to 6.25 million, nelu_179 shoved for 7.53 million and ~koJKin~ snap-called. Nelu_179 was on the unfortunate end of a cooler with Q♥Q♦ and did not improve on the 7♥7♣3♠K♥6♣ board. For fourth place, nelu_179 collected $858.74.

rytaoo takes third

As play turned three-handed, Fduchun retained the chip lead with 25.9 million, ~koJKin~ was a strong second with 18.1 million and rytaoo was the shot stack with 2.7 million. With the blinds up to 125,000/250,000, Fduchun looked down at pocket sevens and shoved from the small blind. Rytaoo called all-in with K♣4♥, but couldn't catch up on the T♦9♦3♠8♦4♦ board. For his third-place finish, rytaoo picked up $1,381.99.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 1: ~koJKin~ (16,448,255 in chips)
Seat 3: Fduchun (30,211,745 in chips)

~koJKin~ was at nearly a 2 to 1 chip defect to start heads-up play, but evened up the counts when his nines and eights edged out Fduchun's eights and fours:

Two hands later, ~koJKin~ took the chip lead when he picked up K♠K♥ and got three streets of value from Fduchun. ~koJKin~ moved up to 26.5 million, but didn't stay out front for long. Dealt A♥Q♣ on the button, Fduchun four-bet to 1.8 million preflop and bet another 1.5 million when the Q♠6♦4♣ flop gave him top pair. ~koJKin~ called, and the turn came the 9♣. ~koJKin~ check-called another 2.7 million. The river was the 6♥ and ~koJKin~ paid off another 4.8 million, mucking at the sight of Fduchun's queens and sixes. The hand moved the chip counts almost back to where they started heads-up, Fduchun with 31 million and ~koJKin~ with 15.7 million.

~koJKin~ set about rebuilding his stack and chipped up to 20.2 million before Fduchun dealt the final blow. After flopping two pair with the lowly 2♦8♦, Fduchun rivered deuces full and got ~koJKin~ to commit the rest of his chips with two pair:

Congratulations to Fduchun on his MicroMillions victory! He banked $3,943.57 for the win (along with 25 bounties) while runner-up ~klJKin~ made 13 knockouts and earned $2,384.58.
