MicroMillions 8: kostis8-2-81 conquers Event #33 ($2.20+R NLHE, 2x-Turbo)
What if you could take your lunch money, use it as a tournament buy-in, and have a five-figure score by dinnertime? In a matter of speaking, that's exactly what happened to Greece's kostis8-2-81. Six and a half hours ago, he was one of over 19,000 players with a few bucks and a dream, now he's a MicroMillions champion sitting on a very healthy bankroll with his victory in Event #33 ($2.20+R NLHE 2x-Turbo).
19,119 players turned out for Event #33, their 52,068 rebuys and 11,959 add-ons pushing the total prize pool up to $166,292.00. 2,475 places were paid with first place set to turn as little as $2.20 into $17,949.30. Red Spade bannermen in the field included Grzegorz "DaWarsaw" Mikielewicz, Tyler "frosty012" Frost, Martin Hruby, and Humberto Brenes, but unfortunately none of them finished in the money.
Blinds were a massive 500,000/1,000,000 with ten players remaining. Reshafim87 opened for a min-raise on the button and kaizen314 three-bet shoved for 17.1 million from the big blind. Reshafim87 had kaizen314's A♠4♣ dominated with A♥K♠, and it held up on the Q♣T♦8♣T♠6♠ board, ending kaizen314's run on the final table bubble.

kostis8-2-81 KOs three
Gconedog was the short stack to start the final table and with the action folded to him in the small blind, he open-shoved for 15.7 million with 7♣7♦. Kostis8-2-81 called with A♣8♥ and they were off to the races. Kostis8-2-81 hit an ace on the flop, the board finishing A♦K♣Q♦J♣2♠ to eliminate gconedig in ninth place ($997.75).
Moments later, FTorres1980 open-shoved for 13.6 million from UTG and kostis8-2-82 reshoved for 33.9 million from middle position. Once again, kostis8-2-81 was racing, his A♦K♦ up against pocket eights. Although FTorres1980's pair held through the turn, kostis8-2-81 spiked a river ace, ending FTorres1980's run in eighth place ($1,496.62).
Only three hands passed before bitt@la moved in for 12.9 million from UTG and kostis8-2-81 called from the big blind. Kostis8-2-81's A♠J♦ held up against K♣J♥ and he made it three KOs in a row as bitt@la hit the rail in seventh place ($2,494.38).
Run, RAZIO5, run
Now the chip leader with 64 million, kostis8-2-81 put some distance between himself and second-place RAZIO5. Kostis8-2-81 fired the flop and turn on a K♣T♦2♦J♠ board and RAZIO5 called him down. When the 3♠ rivered, kostis8-2-81 slowed down and checked, but RAZIO5 checked behind. Kostis8-2-81's K♦Q♣ was good for the 29.6 million pot.
RAZIO5 fell to 44 million and shed even more chips on the next deal. Heads-up in position on a 9♣9♥4♠ flop, RAZIO5 called arthurv1's 3.6 million lead bet. The turn came the K♣ and arthurv1 fired another 3.6 million. RAZIO5 raised to 7.2 million, arthurv1 shoved and RAZIO5 called the additional 14.6 million to see the bad news. RAZIO5's K♠T♠ was no good against arthurv1's trips with Q♠9♠ and he sank to only 15 million in chips. Arthurv1 scored a huge double and moved up to 60 million, second in chips behind kostis8-2-81's 77 million.
RAZIO5 doubled through kostis8-2-81 a short time later; his A♥T♠ held up against K♥J♦ and he moved up to 34 million. Then, with the blinds up to 1.2M/2.4M, Reshafim87 open-shoved for 21.2 million from the cutoff with A♥6♠. However, RAZIO5 woke up with Q♦Q♣ in the big blind and the ladies held up on the J♠8♦6♦7♠5♥ board. For sixth place, Reshafilm87 earned $4,157.30.
RAZIO5 was back in business with 64.7 million in chips and when kostis8-2-81 made a button min-raise to 4.8 million, RAZIO5 called from the small blind. Izzy_Jordo called as well, making it a party of three to the 5♠4♣2♣ fop. RAZIO5 led out for 2.4 million, Izzy_Jordo raised to 4.8 million, kostis8-2-81 got out of the way and RAZIO5 called. The turn came the 8♠ and RAZIO5 made it another 2.4 million to go. Izzy_Jordo smooth-called and they went to the river which fell the 5♥. RAZIO5 bet another 2.4 million, Izzy_Jordo raised to 4.8 million and RAZIO5 called. Izzy_Jordo turned up K♦5♦ for rivered trips and raked in the 39.6 million pot.
Unfortuntaely for Izzy_Jordo, those chips soon made their way back into RAZIO5's stack. Dealt J♥J♣ in the small blind, RAZIO5 smooth-called pre flop and got two streets of value from Izzy_Jordo on the Q♠5♠3♦8♠9♥ board, good for a 50 million pot. Izzy_Jordo was left with only 13.5 million and moved in two hands later with 6♠6♣ on the button. Arthurv1 called with Q♦J♥ from the big blind and hit a jack on the flop, ending Izzy_Jordo's run in fifth place ($5,820.22).
lora-li06 rises, arthurv1 falls
Meanwhile, lora_li06 was still hanging on with a 23.8 million stack as the blinds rose to 2.25M/4.5M. Lora_li06 three-bet shoved from the big blind over kostis8-2-81's button min-raise, but he made the call with A♠7♦. Lora-li06 revealed K♣Q♣ and hit a queen on the flop to move up to 50.7 million in chips. However, those chips and then some soon landed in arthurv1's stack. After RAZIO5 limped in for 5 million from UTG, lora-li06 raised to 10 million and arthurv1 moved all-in for 22.8 million from the small blind. RAZIO5 folded but lora-li06 called, his J♦J♠ coolered by Q♣Q♠. Arthurv1's queens held up and he doubled to 57.6 million, while lora-li06 fell to 32.8 million.
Down but not out, lora-li06 found 9♦9♠ and three-bet shoved for 32.2 million. Arthurv1 called with 7♥7♦, but lora-li06 flopped a set on the Q♦9♥T♥A♥5♦ board to win the 69.5 million pot. Arthurv1 was left with only 14.6 million in chips and moved in from the button a few hands later with K♣Q♣. RAZIO5 called from the big blind with K♥T♣. The A♥T♥5♥ made RAZIO5 middle pair and the nut flush draw and the Q♥ filled it. Arthurv1 was eliminated in fourth place, collecting $7,483.14 for his efforts.
kostis8-2-81 calls RAZIO5's bluff
With the blinds up to 3M/6M, RAZIO5 opened for a min-raise on the button and kostis8-2-81 called from the big blind. The flop came A♣2♣2♦ and kostis8-2-81 check-called RAZIO5's 14.4 million c-bet. When the 9♦ turned, kostis8-2-81 checked again and RAZIO5 shoved for 32.6 million. Kostis8-2-81 called, his A♥8♥ crushing RAZIO5's 7♣7♥. There was no miracle river card, only the J♣ and RAZIO5 departed in third place, good for $10,898.98.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 4: lora-li06 (81,500,928 in chips)
Seat 9: kostis8-2-81 (180,463,072 in chips)
Heads-up play between lora-li06 and kostis8-2-81 was a swift affair. The chip counts had hardly moved when kostis8-2-81 limp-called lorali06's 16 million big blind raise. Both players checked the T♦3♣2♣ flop, but when the turn came the 5♦, lora-li06 led out for 8 million. Kostis8-2-81 called and they went to the river, which fell the 9♣. Lora-li06 shoved and kostis8-2-81 called, but his T♥8♥ was no match for lora-li06's A♣A♠. Lora-l06 doubled to 146 million and kostis8-2-81 was left with 115.8 million.
Five hands later, kostis8-2-81three-bet shoved from the big blind with A♣2♣ and lora-li06 called with K♣J♠. With 239.7 million at stake, the flop came down J♣9♣3♣ making kostis8-2-81 the nut flush. Lora-li06 got no help on the 3♥ turn or the T♥ river and was left with only 22.25 million in chips.
On the next hand, kostis8-2-81 open-shoved and lora-li06 called all in from the big blind. Although lora-li06 had the pre flop lead with K♣T♥ over Q♣7♦, kostis8-2-81 made trip queens on the Q♥K♠Q♦ flop. The 6♣ turn and 2♦ river didn't chance a thing and kostis8-2-81 locked up a MicroMillions title.
Congratulations to Greece's kostis8-2-81 on a fantastic score! He picked up $17,949.30 for the win while runner-up lora-li06 banked $14,134.82.
