MicroMillions 8: Serious11285 goes wire to wire in Event #66 win ($2.20 NLHE)

To any poker fan, the "suck/re-suck" is a golden moment. The overcards outflop the small pair only to be crushed in brutal fashion on a two-outer. The small pair hangs on through the turn then gets Barry Greensteined with an ace on the river. It's a moment seemingly tailor-made for television, thousands of dollars changing on the turn of a single card, with no more decisions to be made. It's just you and the poker gods. So went the story of Serious11285 in his quest for a MicroMillions title. Serious11285 brought the chip lead into the final table and went on a rampage once play turned six-handed, knocking down three opponents in a row on two and three outers. Serious11285 brought an 8 to 1 chip lead into heads-up play and although dimawinner77 doubled up twice to give him a run for his money, Serious11285 pulled off one final river miracle to lock up his first MicroMillions win.

Event #66 drew 13,760 players, each of them with $2.20 and a dream. The $27,520.00 prize pool more than doubled the $10k guarantee and 1,800 places were paid out with first place set to earn $3,655.41.

Nine hours after cards went in the air, blinds were up to 150,000/300,000 and ten players remained. When the action folded around to BendStars100 in the small blind, he open-shoved for 2.75 million and t6naver called with A♦9♣ in the big blind. BendStars100's K♥3♠ did not improve and he hit the rail on the final table bubble.

Ser_Olympus takes out Trusiek in ninth place

Short stack Trusiek got a boost when he doubled through Ser_Olympus, his A♥T♦ holding up vs. A♦9♠. Trusiek moved up to 4.2 million in chips, but Ser_Olympus got his revenge only two hands later. Trusiek open-shoved from middle position with A♠K♣ and Ser_Olympus called with a dominated A♦Q♠, but he rivered a three-outer on the 8♣8♠3♦J♦Q♦ board to eliminate Trusiek in ninth place ($165.12).

kazarjke scores a double KO

KQ=palacio's stack was more than halved when his A♠K♣ failed to improve vs. kazarjke''s Q♣Q♠ in a preflop all-in. Kazarjke doubled to 5.3 million while KQ=palacio sank to 2.2 million. Two hands later, dimawinner77 found pocket sevens in the big blind and when t6naver shoved from the small, he had a pretty easy decision to call all-in. T6naver turned up Q♣4♠ and did not improve on the J♥5♠2♥3♣5♥ board, doubling dimawinner77 to 4.8 million.

T6naver, however, got those chips back soon enough. When KQ=palacio open-shoved for 1.15 million and M.X.R/10 moved in behind him for 1.43 million, t6naver called an additional 932,000 from the big blind and gave us a three-way showdown.

t6naver Q♠5♣
M.X.R/10 A♣8♣
KQ=palacio A♦2♣

T6naver outdrew both aces when he flopped a pair of queens. The board finished out Q♥J♦2♠9♥7♦ and both his opponents hit the rail, KQ=palacio in eighth place ($247.68) and M.X.R/10 in seventh ($522.88).

Are you serious?

On the very next deal, Serious11285 opened for a min-raise to 1,000,000 from UTG and kazarjke called from the cutoff. Serious11285 immediately moved all-in on the J♠9♥3♠ flop and kazarjke called off his remaining 2.76 million with A♥J♥. Serious11285 was in deep trouble with 5♦5♠. The A♦ turn made kazarjke aces up, but Serious11285 spiked a two-outer on the river, the 5♥ falling to make him a set. Suddenly, kazarjke was out in sixth place, collecting $798.08.

t6naver gets three-outed

As the 250,000/500,000 level drew to a close, Serious11285 made a UTG min-raise and t6naver three-bet shoved for 4.7 million on the button. Serious11285 called, his A♦T♠ up against K♠J♣. Serious11285 kept the lead on the Q♥6♣2♦ flop, but t6naver turned the K♦ to make top pair. However, with a thunderbolt from the poker gods, Serious11285 pulled off the re-suck on the river, the A♥ giving him a pair of aces and the 10.5 million pot. For fifth place, t6naver picked up $1,073.28.

Serious11285 gets a second miracle

Three hands later, hlxbigwal open-shoved for 1.8 mllion from UTG and Serious11285 three-bet to 4.2 million straight. Hlxbigwal opened up a massive lead in the race against Serious11285's 6♦6♠ when his 9♠T♠ flopped a nine, but once again, luck was on Serious11285's side. Serious11285 turned a six to make a set and rivered a queen for a full house, the board running out Q♦9♦4♥6♥Q♣ to end hlxbigwal's run in fourth place ($1,348.48).

Ser_Olympus falls in third

The action didn't abate for one second; on the very next deal, Ser_Olympus moved all-in for 12.97 million on the button with A♣5♣. Unfortunately for him, Serious11285's rush wasn't over and he woke up with A♠K♣ in the big blind. Ser_Olympus didn't get any help on the 9♣9♠8♣6♦2♥ board and was eliminated in third place ($1,898.88).

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 2: Serious11285 (64,787,605 in chips)
Seat 8: dimawinner77 (4,012,395 in chips)

Serious11285 may have brought an 8 to 1 chip lead into heads-up play, but dimawinner77 wasn't about to go quietly. On the first hand of their match, dimawinner77 moved all-in with A♠9♠ and doubled to 8 million when Serious11285's K♦7♥ did not improve. A few minutes later, dimawinner77 called Serious11285's button shove with Q♣T♥ and flopped the nut straight on the [d]9♥8♦3♠4♣ board. Serious11285's 9♦7♥ went up in flames and dimawinner77 doubled to 11.5 million.

Serious11285 whittled dimawinner77 back down to 8.45 million before the final hand unfolded. Serious11285 moved in on the button with 2♥2♦ and dimawinner77 looked him up with Q♣T♣. Serious11285's baby pair held on the A♣8♠3♦ flop, but dimawinner77 spiked the Q♠ on the turn to make top pair. Only one of the two remaining deuces in the deck could save Serious11285 from doubling dimawinner77 for a third time, and the gods of luck granted his wish once more as the 2♣ fluttered down, locking up the win.

Congratulations to Serious11285 on joining the ranks of MicroMillions champions. He banked $3,655.41 for the win while runner-up dimawinner77 earned $2,516.70.
