MicroMillions 8: Tight Jr is right; wins Event #22, $11K-plus ($8.80 NLHE Progressive Super-KO)
Tight Jr of the United Kingdom entered the final table of Event #22 of MicroMillions 8 -- an $8.80 buy-in no-limit hold'em "progressive super-knockout" tournament -- with a massive chip lead, holding more than a third of the chips in play and three times that of the nearest challenger with nine players left. There'd be drama before the end, though, with Tight Jr losing the lead late before reclaiming it again to win Event #22, earning a cool $9,000 first prize after a five-way deal plus $2,107.20 more thanks to all of the many knockout bounties collected along the way.
The progressive knockout format dictates that a percentage of every knockout bounty gets added to the bounty of the player doing the knocking out, with the rest going into the player's pocket. And the "super" tag makes those starting bounties even bigger -- indeed, half the overall prize pool goes towards them -- making it even more lucrative to keep earning those eliminations, especially later in the event.
A big turnout of 24,242 came out for Event #22, building a total prize pool of $203,632.80 that more than doubled the tourney's $100K guarantee. It took just two-and-a-half hours for that group to play down to 4,950 players and for the money bubble to burst, at which point lozzfish, soypatagon, and AKsucks99 led in the counts.
By the time they'd crossed the eight-hour mark, just 18 players remained, then over the next half-hour another nine would hit the rail.
mhp007 (18th), Da$ha 13 (17th), and da Ape (16th) each earned $186.32 from the regular prize pool, with mhp007 taking away an extra $388.44 thanks to bounties. $tony2k14 (15th), rustyash (14th), and Dionisimus21 (13th) picked up $261.66 apiece plus bounties, with rustyash earning the biggest bonus of those three with $490.78 worth of knockouts. Then Luguinmi (12th), newdurrrrrrr (11th), and tolianmd (10th) were the next to go, picking up $339.04 each for their finishes with tolianmd making the most in the way of bounties of those three with $739.27 worth.
With Tight Jr having assumed that aforementioned huge chip lead with more than 22.7 million of the roughly 60 million chips in play, the final table was underway.

Seat 4: oOwL (Germany) -- 6,354,151
Seat 5: TattooSigal (Russia) -- 7,341,038
Seat 6: Tight Jr (United Kingdom) -- 22,715,173
Seat 7: Valentosio (Russia) -- 1,690,741
Seat 8: heyjunge (Switzerland) -- 4,926,905
Seat 9: micnad111 (Poland) -- 2,491,992
Valentosio vanquished in ninth
On the fifth hand of the final table, the blinds were 100,000/200,000 when the table's short stack Valentosio open-raised all in for 1,565,741 from early position, then watched micnad11 reraise all in for 2,266,992 from a couple of seats over. It folded to oOwL in the small blind who reraise-shoved over the top of both, and after TattooSigal folded the big blind the three players' hands were turned over.
The flop came K♥3♠9♥ to give Valentosio a set of nines and the lead, and the J♦ fell on fourth street. The T♥ then completed the board on the river, making straights for both oOwL and micnad111, though micnad111's was to the ace to win the pot and knock Valentosio out in ninth.
Teca87 tripped up in eighth
About 10 minutes later the blinds were 125,000/250,000 when Teca87 raised to 550,000 from middle position. It folded to Tight Jr in the big blind who three-bet to 1.95 million, and Teca87 called.
The flop came 9♠Q♥K♥. Tight Jr continued for 2,137,500 and Teca87 called. The turn was the 2♦, prompting a bet of 4 million from Tight Jr -- more than the 3,804,774 Teca87 had left.
Teca87 called all in, showing A♥Q♠ for queens, but was behind Tight Jr who had A♣K♣ for kings. The river was the 8♠, and Teca87 was eliminated in eighth.
heyjunge says bye in seventh
They reached the nine-hour break with Tight Jr even more in command with nearly 32 million chips while no one else had more than 8.2 million. Tight Jr's bounty was also huge -- $1,280.76 -- although no one was close to having enough chips to challenge for it just yet.
Before long the blinds were at 150,000/300,000, and after a TattooSigal open to 900,000 from middle position, heyjunge reraised all in for 2,567,361 from the button and it folded back to TattooSigal who called.
heyjunge had A♠K♣ and was racing against TattooSigal's Q♠Q♣. The community cards came ten-high -- T♦6♥5♠3♥6♣ -- and TattooSigal collected heyjunge's bounty as the latter was sent railward in seventh.
szaaadi sunk in sixth
Just three hands later, Tight Jr opened for a little over 2x with a raise to 660,000 from under the gun, the szaaadi reraised all in to 1,031,110 from middle position. It folded back to Tight Jr who called, turning over J♦9♥ to szaaadi's K♦J♥.
The Q♥9♣5♦ flop swung the lead over to Tight Jr, and after the 6♦ turn and 9♦ river they were down to five.
A five-way deal, then oOwL out in fifth
They played a short while longer, then paused the tournament with Tight Jr sitting at more than 28.5 million; oOwL, MSU789, and micnad111 all sitting between 8.3 and 9 million; and TattooSigal with just over 6.3 million.
Both "ICM"-based figures and "chip chop" numbers were presented, and the five ended up agreeing upon a modified version of the latter with oOwL getting a little extra from the others but Tight Jr still locking up a handsome $7,000. There was still $2,000 left for which to play, however -- along with everyone's remaining knockout bounties -- and so a lot was on the line when cards went back in the air.
The blinds increased to 200,000/400,000, and after MSU789 raised to 800,000 from the small blind, oOwL shoved all in for 3,351,521 from the big blind and MSU789 called.
oOwL had 6♦6♣ and was hoping the pair could hold against MSU789's two overcards with Q♥J♠. But the board rolled out 7♦5♥Q♠4♣9♣ to give MSU789 the better pair and send oOwL out in fifth.
TattooSigal taps out in fourth
Soon MSU789 made a charge up the counts, doubling through Tight Jr and then knocking out TattooSigal in fourth to win a big pot and seize the chip lead.
In the latter hand, the blinds were 250,000/500,000 when MSU789 opened for 1.25 million from the small blind, TattooSigal reraised to 4 million from the big blind, MSU789 made it 7.5 million to go, TattooSigal reraised all in for 16,949,694 total, and MSU789 called.
The community cards came Q♥8♦K♣, then 6♥, then Q♠, meaning MSU789's jacks had held. MSU789 banked half of TattooSigal's bounty while the other half was added to MSU789's bounty, and TattooSigal was done in fourth.
micnad111 meets end in third
More excitement ensued as micnad111 would double through Tight Jr to make the latter the short stack, then Tight Jr would double up two times through MSU789 before eventually chipping all of the way back into the lead.
Meanwhile the blinds increased to 300,000/600,000, and a hand arose that saw MSU789 open-raise to 1.5 million from the button and watch both opponents call, Tight Jr from the small blind and micnad111 from the big.
The flop came 9♥8♠3♣. Tight Jr led for 2,362,500, micnad111 called, then MSU789 raised all in for 7,894,585. Tight Jr responded by reraising to 13,426,670, and micnad111 called, leaving but 1,837,221 behind.
The turn was the 5♣, and Tight Jr wasted no time shoving all in. micnad111 didn't take much time, either, to call all in.
Tight Jr: 7♠6♠ -- a nine-high straight
micnad111: 9♦5♦ -- two pair (nines and fives)
MSU789: 9♣8♣ -- two pair (nines and eights) and a flush draw
Tight Jr had turned the current nuts with a straight and suddenly was one card away from a tourney-ending double-knockout. But the Q♣ fell on fifth street, completing a flush for MSU789 while micnad111 was ousted in third.
Tight Jr wins collects MSU789's bounty and keeps own
Tight Jr typed "omg" following that hand, a suitable response. The remaining pair began heads-up play with Tight Jr in front with 32,196,245 to MSU789's 28,408,755. In addition to the $2,000 set aside from the regular prize pool, the pair were additionally playing for a lot more as Tight Jr had a $1,506.12 bounty and MSU789 one worth $1,202.17.
They'd battle for several minutes, with MSU789 taking the lead and appearing on the verge of winning before Tight Jr came back to take a slight chip advantage before the final hand took place.
It began with MSU789 making a minimum raise to 1.2 million from the button, Tight Jr calling, and the pair watching a flop fall 5♠Q♦3♦. Tight Jr led for 1,699,999, MSU789 raised to 3,399,998, Tight Jr made it 8,074,996, MSU789 reraised all in for 27,784,754, and Tight Jr called.
Tight Jr had A♦6♦ for a diamond draw while MSU789 had top pair with Q♣8♥. The turn then brought the A♠ to give Tight Jr the better pair, and after the T♣ river it was all over... Tight Jr had won!
Congratulations to Tight Jr for collecting the final bounty of the night to win Event #22 and a total of $11,107.20 between first-place prize money and that earned from bounties.
