MicroMillions 8: Topsy-turvy dobsy73 ends on top in Event #79 ($3.30 PL Courchevel)

Courchevel is not a commonly-played poker variation but it's one that is picking up in popularity. And who doesn't like Courchevel? You get not two, not four, but five hole cards to use, and the first card of the flop is dealt face up before there is any preflop betting action! Brilliant! The one who enjoyed it most today was dobsy73. Hailing from the United Kingdom, dobsy73 had a topsy-turvy final table, but in the end, was a deserving MicroMillions champion.

A field of 3,008 took the opportunity to try their hand at Event #79 of the MicroMillions 8 series which was a $3.30 Pot Limit Courchevel Event. They combined for a prize pool of $9,024 to almost double the guarantee with the top 384 players to receive at least a min-cash of $5.32.

Marcel Luske and Tyler Frost were a couple of the red spades in the field representing Team PokerStars but they were eliminated short of the money. Also missing the money was stevees121 from the UK who was the unlucky bubble in 385th place.

Ziada was emerging as a big stack, while sneakas and dobsy73 both enjoyed time on top of the leaderboard before the final table was formed after about seven-and-a-half hours of play.

With hand-for-hand play across two tables on the final table bubble, we had simultaneous eliminations to see our final table start with an empty seat. First, it was CurrieShips who called a preflop raise before committing on a flop of Q♣9♣K♥ holding T♣J♠5♠A♦9♥ for a flopped straight. sneakas tabled 4♦K♣K♠A♥7♠ for top set. The turn was the 7♥ but the river 9♦ paired the board to give sneakas the winning full house.

At the same time on the other table, the short-stacked HIMKIPIE moved all in on a flop of A♦3♣5♠ against Artur Lesley. HIMKIPIE showed 6♦J♣K♦4♦7♥ for a straight wrap against Artur Lesley's A♣7♠Q♠7♣K♣ top pair. The turn was the 6♠ to give HIMKIPIE the straight but the river was the K♠ to improve Artur Lesley to a spade flush.

HIMKIPIE was the shorter stack so takes $63.19 for ninth place with CurrieShips getting the pay jump to $90.24 for eighth place.

When the dust settled, just seven players remained:

Final Table Line Up
Seat 1: sneakas (4,566,596 in chips)
Seat 2: serina915 (949,152 in chips)
Seat 3: Cepblu BoJIk (1,686,888 in chips)
Seat 4: (empty)
Seat 5: dobsy73 (3,171,284 in chips)
Seat 6: chocpretzel (595,595 in chips)
Seat 7: iRepFreetown (2,907,072 in chips)
Seat 8: Artur Lesley (1,163,413 in chips)

It would take just one hand to see our first elimination of the final table. With the Q♠ showing, a raise by serina915 was met with a call from dobsy73 in the small blind to see a Q♠3♣K♣ flop. dobsy73 checked, and then check-raised, before serina915 called all in. serina915 showed 7♣Q♦K♦T♥6♣ for top two pair and a small flush draw as dobsy73 revealed Q♥A♣T♠K♠4♣ for the same two pair but with a better flush draw and a straight draw. dobsy73 hit both when the J♣ appeared on the turn before the 6♠ completed the board. The nut flush for dobsy73 took it down to remove serina915 in seventh place for $180.48 in prize money.

Another hand and another elimination as the very short-stacked chocpretzel would be next to fall. With the 7♦ in the window, chocpretzel was all in preflop with both sneakas and dobsy73 making the call. The two live players checked down the board of 7♦2♣6♦9♠K♣ as fifteen cards would be turned on their backs. chocpretzel had 3♣6♣9♥A♦A♠ and while the aces were pretty it was nines and sixes that chocpretzel would play. But that wasn't enough with sneakas holding 3♥T♣K♦2♦7♣ and dobsy73 showing Q♥7♥K♠A♣5♥ for kings and sevens for both players. They chopped it up to leave chocpretzel to depart in sixth place for $270.72.

Just two hands had been played on the final table, but we were already down to five players. dobsy73 moved into the chip lead but a big clash with sneakas would see sneakas get three streets of value with a full house to move back on top.

iRepFreetown would secure a double up through dobsy73 with pocket kings filling up to a full house, before Cepblu BoJIk rivered a set of jacks for another double as dobsy73 continued to slide.

It would be Artur Lesley who would be next to depart. With the 8♠ showing on board, the action was three and four-bet preflop with Artur Lesley getting it all in with 9♠7♠T♣T♥2♣ against sneakas' J♠A♣8♣Q♠Q♣. It was a dramatic board as the 8♠J♥9♣ flop put Artur Lesley in front with a jack-high straight. The T♠ was a set for Artur Lesley but it improved sneakas to a better queen-high straight. Artur Lesley had some outs but the 4♥ wasn't one of them, leaving Artur Lesley to exit in fifth place for $451.20.

The four-handed battle was pretty tight before dobsy73 won a key double up making quad aces against sneakas' full house.

dobsy73 would then continue the momentum with the elimination of iRepFreetown. After a raise and a call with the Q♣ in the window, iRepFreetown would move all in with K♦7♠K♠Q♦3♠. sneakas folded but dobsy73 took it on with Q♠A♥T♣8♦2♠. The board ran out Q♣A♣4♣5♦7♥ to see iRepFreetown end up with queens and sevens but that wasn't enough to better dobsy73's aces and queens. iRepFreetown collected $631.68 for fourth place.

dobsy73 and sneakas would clash in another monstrous pot with sneakas firing all the way with a full house with jacks full of sevens, but dobsy73 had queens full of jacks for another big double up.

It was a tough blow for sneakas but some chips were returned to the stack after the elimination of the short-stacked Cepblu BoJIk.

With the 6♣ showing, Cepblu BoJIk was all in preflop with both opponents calling. The 6♣5♦T♥ flop was checked before sneakas bet into the side pot on the 4♣ turn. dobsy73 called before folding when sneakas moved all in on the 2♦ river. Cepblu BoJIk showed K♣3♥K♠6♥9♥ for a six-high straight but sneakas held A♦A♣7♥8♥4♥ for an eight-high straight for the knockout blow. Cepblu BoJIk picked up $812.16 for third place.

Heads-up Chip Counts
Seat 1: sneakas (5,717,094 in chips)
Seat 5: dobsy73 (9,322,906 in chips)

dobsy73 held a handy chip lead but the roles were reversed when sneakas virtually doubled up on the second hand of the heads-up contest. The board read 9♣4♠K♠7♠ with dobsy73 leading out with a bet before folding when sneakas moved all in.

sneakas got out to a two-to-one lead, but dobsy73 won the last five pots of the tournament to turn it around and grab the victory.

dobsy73 would first double up with a full house holding aces full of queens against sneakas' two pair before the final blow was struck.

The K♥ was showing when dobsy73 raised from the button. sneakas three-bet from the big blind and dobsy73 made the call to see the flop of K♥K♦T♠. That was good enough for sneakas to move all in with 5♥5♦K♠6♥2♥ for trip kings but dobsy73 had flopped the nuts with Q♦K♣T♣7♥8♦. It's hard to be drawing dead in Courchevel but sneakas had no hope as the 2♣ and 8♥ completed the board.

sneakas padded the bankroll with $1,082.88 for the runner-up result as dobsy73 wins the MicroMillions title for the United Kingdom along with $1,536.16 in prize money. Congratulations!
