MicroMillions II: 2stonedbirds brings title down under in Event #14 ($3.30+R NLHE)

micromillions-thumb-blog.pngForgive me if I get a little patriotic tonight as I give a little cry of "Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!". The MicroMillions loot is heading down under today as Australia's 2stonedbirds grabbed an emphatic victory on a whirlwind final table.

It was Event #14 of the MicroMillions II schedule and was everyone's favourite tilt-buster - the $3.30 No Limit Holdem Rebuy Event. A guaranteed $25,000 prize pool was offered but that was well and truly smashed. There were 8,545 entrants who dug deep for 11,790 rebuys and another 5,572 add-ons to produce a total prize pool of $77,721.

Andre "acoimbra" Coimbra was well short of the money in 3,180th place as the only Team PokerStars Pro in the field as the top 1,080 players would receive at least $16.32.

After a little over nine hours of play, a gallant saloute fell in 10th place as after shoving A♠9♦ into the A♦Q♠ of INLOVE. However it was almost a double elimination on the final table bubble as a remarkable hand was going down at the same time on the other table:

Noall-inOnKK looked to be on the ropes, then grabbed the lead with an ace kicker with quads on board, before finally being forced to split the pot when another ace appeared! Yowsers!

It left our final table lineup as follows:

Final Table Lineup
Seat 1: 2stonedbirds (26,070,994 in chips)
Seat 2: INLOVE (17,780,450 in chips)
Seat 3: bianconer518 (6,921,586 in chips)
Seat 4: FateMaster88 (15,954,035 in chips)
Seat 5: Dyniaq (17,985,636 in chips)
Seat 6: Noall-inOnKK (5,197,280 in chips)
Seat 7: dada2333 (20,010,637 in chips)
Seat 8: HeavenV (23,860,260 in chips)
Seat 9: BOSmeg684 (9,684,122 in chips)

The blinds kicked off the final table at 300k/600k with a 75k ante, and Noall-inOnKK was on the short stack, however it was dada2333 who was surprisingly first to go in a big early pot. 2stonedbirds opened from under the gun and both dada2333 and HeavenV made the call to see a flop of Q♣T♠4♥. Action checked to dada2333 on the button who tossed out a bet. HeavenV made the call as 2stonedbirds got out of the way. The turn brought the 3♣ and again HeavenV checked and dada2333 bet, but this time HeavenV put in a min-check-raise. dada2333 didn't slow down, moving all in with A♦Q♥ for top pair, top kicker, only to discover HeavenV make the call with T♦T♣ for a set of tens. dada2333 was drawing dead as the 9♥ completed the board, to send dada2333 to a dramatic exit in 9th place for $602.33 in prize money.

Noall-inOnKK was next to go after moving the short stack all in preflop with A♣2♣ only to run into the 9♥9♣ of BOSmeg684. Noall-inOnKK couldn't find a lucky ace on the board of 3♥J♣3♠T♥K♥ to be eliminated in 8th place for a $932.65 score.

With the blinds rising rapidly, the pace didn't slow down as HeavenV's 35 big blinds were enough for the chip lead while several players were playing cat and mouse with around ten big blinds.

After a series of "raise and take it" hands, 2stonedbirds was able to land a devastating knockout blow to the short-stacked bianconer518:

A savage flop for bianconer518 saw 2stonedbirds flop trip nines to eliminate bianconer518 in an unlucky 7th place for $1,671 in prize money.

BOSmeg684 landed a double up with pocket nines against INLOVE's pocket eights, and it was a blow that INLOVE couldn't recover from. Moments later, INLOVE three-bet shoved all in with A♥6♥ only to see 2stonedbirds make the call with A♣T♣. The board was spread K♦2♥Q♦7♥Q♠, leaving INLOVE to collect $2409.35 for 6th place.

The action didn't slow as FateMaster88 was quickly dispatched in 5th place. FateMaster88 open-shoved all in for a little over five big blinds with J♣A♦ as Dyniaq decided to follow by sticking the last six big blinds in with an ambitious 8♣9♣. It didn't stop there, as HeavenV had them both covered and made the call with 4♣4♦. It was a crucial three-way all in that went the way of Dyniaq on the board of 9♠8♥7♥5♦7♠ for a big triple up. FateMaster88 was sent packing but $3,186.56 is certainly a fantastic return for a fine effort.

Just when you thought you could catch your breath, just two hands later and BOSmeg684 was all in with 7♦7♥ and racing with tournament life on the line against the A♦T♣ of 2stonedbirds. The cards were falling the way of the Aussie as the board landed K♠9♦K♥3♦A♥ to give 2stonedbirds the ace from space on the river to eliminate BOSmeg684 in 4th place for $4,119.21.

2stonedbirds held over two-thirds of the chips in play and didn't relent. Of course, picking up K♠K♣ in the big blind also helps. Dyniaq shoved A♣3♣ at the wrong time as the kings held on the board of Q♦4♠T♣9♥3♠. Dyniaq picked up $6,217.68 as we were now heads-up for the title.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: 2stonedbirds (129,276,342 in chips)
Seat 8: HeavenV (14,188,658 in chips)

It was a healthy lead for 2stonedbirds but HeavenV fought back with a double up to get back into contention. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as 2stonedbirds three-bet jammed 2♥A♣ and HeavenV decided to gamble with a pretty T♥J♥. Both players paired the board but ultimately the 8♦A♥9♠T♦3♦ board left 2stonedbirds' aces in front to see HeavenV pick up $8,578.06 for second place. I'm proud to report that the MicroMillions title is coming down under as 2stonedbirds' victory nets a whopping $11,663.29!
