MicroMillions II: A83Z vaults past Theaetetus to win Event #20 ($2.22+R NLHE 3x-Turbo)
The Saturday Splash? How about a freaking tidal wave? Because that's how it would feel if half a billion chips landed on your head. The MicroMillions special edition of this regularly scheduled Saturday smackdown may have carried the buy-in of a kiddie game, but navigating through the tsunami of players that descended upon the virtual felt this afternoon would take big-time skills. This was no ordinary mass-field tournament. This was a tournament with $2 rebuys, triple the time to make them, and half a billion chips in play.
The 19,224 players that dove into this special edition of the Saturday Splash made an astounding 75,097 rebuys and 8,953 add-ons, driving the prize pool up to $208,613.48. 2,475 places were paid, with first place set to earn $22,513.25. Portuguese Team Pro Andre Coimbra was in the field, as he will be for all 100 MicroMillions II events, and was joined by Team Pro Martin Hruby and Team Online's Sigge "ClarkKent89" Reichard. All three, however, busted outside the money.
With ten players remaining and the blinds up to 1.6M/3.2M, Masta_shadow opened for a min-raise and LUIS ALAN called from the big blind. LUIS ALAN insta-shoved his remaining 22 million on the K♣9♥2♠ flop and Masta_shadow just as quickly called. LUIS ALAN's K♦4♠ was in kicker trouble against Masta_shadow's K♠J♦ and couldn't recover, the turn and river falling the 7♠ and the T♣ to send LUIS ALAN to the rail on the final table bubble.
Final table chip counts:
Seat 1: Sam autocall (51,779,906 in chips)
Seat 2: Theaetetus (105,636,732 in chips)
Seat 3: TiredO (56,998,435 in chips)
Seat 4: DoBmEnT (13,421,552 in chips)
Seat 5: A83Z (77,459,745 in chips)
Seat 6: tictactony (41,156,130 in chips)
Seat 7: dixiegers (58,783,653 in chips)
Seat 8: Masta_shadow (112,329,536 in chips)
Seat 9: dangoo (33,987,311 in chips)
A three-way all-in sets the tone
The final table's fourth hand resulted in a three-way all-in, Theaetetus leading off the action with a min-raise to 6.4 million. DoBmEnT shoved for 7.3 million from the cutoff, tictactony reshoved for 36.6 million from the small blind, dixiegers called all-in for 33.4 million from the big blind, and Theaetetus got out of the way.
A king on the flop gave the lead to tictactony and neither of his opponents recovered, the board running out K♦9♣3♣T♣7♦. Tictactony raked in the 90 million-chip pot, dixiegers fell to only 20 million, and DoBmEnT was eliminated in ninth place, collecting $1,251.68.
Minutes later, dixiegers put the last of her chips in the middle on a A♣K♠6♦ flop. Dixiegers' pocket fives were crushed by tictactony's A♦Q♠ and dixiegers exited in eighth place, earning $1,877.52.
dangoo down, Sam autocall runs into kings
Dixiegers's departure left dangoo as the table short stack with only 12 million. Although he doubled through A83Z, his A♠6♣ holding up against Q♠8♦, the comeback was short-lived. A few hands later, dangoo three-bet shoved for 22.6 million over Masta_shadow's 7 million opening min-raise. Masta_shadow called with K♥Q♦. Although dangoo's A♦4♣ was good through the turn, Masta_shadow rivered a king to knock dangoo out in seventh place. He took home $3,129.20 for his finish.
Sam autocall was the next to get his money in, shoving his last 8.5 big blinds with pocket threes only to run into TiredO's pocket kings. TiredO's cowboys held and Sam autocall hit the rail in sixth place for a $5,215.33 score.
Theaetetus? Try Lazarus...
Theaetetus rose from the dead so many times at this final table he should consider a screenname change. Crippled by A83Z when he picked off Theaetetus' preflop bluff-shove with T♥8♠, Theaetetus more than tripled on the next hand, his A♦Q♣ holding against tictactony's Q♦3♣ and TiredO. Back up to 32 million, Theaetetus doubled again two hands later (this time, against Masta-_shadow), and again two hands after that, his pocket nines holding against tictactony's A♦Q♦ to take him up to 134 million. Theaetetus' party was cut short, however, when TiredO doubled through him with pocket jacks against 8♥9♥.
Masta_shadow scored a massive double-up to 174 million when his pocket fives hung on against tictactony's A♠K♣. A83Z finished the job, getting it in with pocket threes against tictactony's A♣9♦. A83Z turned two pair and rivered a boat, sending tictactony home with $7,301.47 for fifth place.
TiredO put Theaetetus back on the ropes when his K♦J♦ flopped top pair against Theaetetus' Q♥8♠. Theaetetus wasn't down for long, though, more than doubling from 31 million to 72 million on the next deal when his A♣T♠ held up against Masta_shadow's A♥5♦. Theaetetus pulled it out once again and doubled to 152 million only minutes later, his 7♥7♠ flopping a set against Masta_shadow's K♦Q♣.
If there was a hand that shifted the momentum of this final table it was this one. TiredO got his money in with A♣A♠ against A83Z's A♦J♥, only to have them cracked by a runner-runner straight:
Two hands later, TiredO was out in fourth place. The blinds at an astronomical 3.5M/7M, TiredO called all-in with K♦7♦ in the dacce of Theaetetus' opening min-raise. Theaetetus turned over 6♦T♥, but caught a ten on the flop and a six on the turn to send TiredO to the rail. He collected $9,387.60 for his finish.
Shortly thereafter, Masta_shadow moved in for 80.4 million with A♠6♦ from the small blind and Theaetetus woke up with K♠K♣ in the big. Theaetetus found a third king on the turn and Masta_shadow departed in third, with a $13,559.87 score.
Heads-up chip counts:
Seat 2: Theaetetus (269,858,360 in chips)
Seat 5: A83Z (281,694,640 in chips)
A83Z and Theaetetus traded pots, the chip counts staying nearly the same until the went to war on a K♠T♣8♠ flop. Theaetetus check-raised all-in and A83Z called, turning over K♣5♦. Theaetetus showed 5♠7♠ for a flush draw. Although Theaetetus caught the 5♣ on the turn and the 7♥ on the river to make a running two pair, A83Z turned his kicker to make kings up and crippled Theaetetus to 16 million-- less than two big blinds.
Once again, Theaetetus rose from the dead, doubling three times in the next four hands to run his stack back up to 117 million. Pocket fives held against ace-jack. A83Z's K♠4♠ turned two pair only to have Theaetetus river a Broadway straight. And K♥T♣ held against J♠8♠, despite A83Z flopping a flush draw.
The fourth time turned out to be the charm for A83Z. Theaetetus put his money in with a flush draw, but this time A83Z's two pair held:
Congratulations to A83Z on his first MicroMillions title and a $22,513.25 score. For his runner-up finish, Teaetetus earned $17,732.14.
