MicroMillions II: ASPIDOV ALEK antes up to win Event #53 ($3.30 NLHE Six-Handed Ante Up)
We've ticked past the half way mark of the MicroMillions II series but the action is only just warming up as massive fields and even bigger prize pools continue to give low-limit players the chance to experience championship online poker for the price of a cup of coffee.
Event #53 of the MicroMillions II was the $3.30 No Limit Holdem Ante Up tournament with a field of 5,861 producing a prize pool of $17,583 to smash the advertised guarantee.
Team PokerStars Pro Andre "acoimbra" Coimbra didn't have to waste too much time in this event as one of the first eliminations, while TempelrunAA ran all the way to 781st place before falling over the edge on the money bubble as the top 780 players locked up $5.09.
After nine hours of play Princessx87x ran a set into the rivered flush of NeoNaoNeo to fall in 7th place to see our final table lineup formed:
Final Table Lineup
Seat 1: NeoNaoNeo (12,437,895 in chips)
Seat 2: dreamguy2 (2,093,761 in chips)
Seat 3: UbetUrWife (6,714,741 in chips)
Seat 4: gordissimo (3,394,710 in chips)
Seat 5: camssterg (201,443 in chips)
Seat 6: ASPIDOV ALEK (4,462,450 in chips)
An Ante Up tournament fixes the blinds in at 5/5 as the ante continues to rise each level. It creates an interesting preflop dynamic where there is a lot of money in the pot, with the ability to potentially limp in and see a flop at a very cheap price with effectively no blinds to defend. When the final table started the antes were 80,000 which put almost 500,000 in the middle before the cards were dealt. NeoNaoNeo held a big chip lead after torturing the short-handed table while camssterg had been desperately battling with a short stack for some time.
camssterg moved all in on the very first hand of the final table with 8♠A♣. camssterg picked up two callers but dreamguy2 bet out into the side pot on the flop of 5♥A♥T♥ to force a fold from gordissimo. camssterg had flopped top pair but was in a world of hurt as dreamguy2 tabled 4♥3♥ for a flopped flush. The 2♣ turn and J♣ river completed the board to leave camssterg to pick up $263.74 for 6th place.
The chips were passed around the table in a series of small pots before gordissimo landed a big double up with T♦T♠ against UbetUrWife's 9♥A♠ on a board of 6♥8♣2♦3♣7♥.
gordissimo was back in contention for the win after incredibly being down to just 3,000 in chips when the ante was 50,000 with around 12 players left. gordissimo multiplied over and over to somehow turn 3,000 into 3 million in a matter of minutes. It would've been a chip and a chair story to last a lifetime but unfortunately gordissimo's epic comeback ended in 5th place.
gordissimo raised it up with 8♣8♥ before ASPIDOV ALEK put in a three-bet. gordissimo made the call before checking the 2♣7♠5♥ flop. ASPIDOV ALEK bet enough to put gordissimo all in and gordissimo made the call but ASPIDOV ALEK showed a monster A♦A♥. gordissimo would need another miracle but the 4♦ turn and 2♦ river completed the board to see gordissimo take $498.47 for a great run.
dreamguy2 found a double up with K♣J♦ on a king-high board against NeoNaoNeo's K♠T♣ before a pivotal hand against UbetUrWife:
UbetUrWife's rivered top pair wasn't enough as dreamguy2 had turned a flush to see UbetUrWife derailed in 4th place for $835.17 in prize money.
The three remaining players wanted to look at the numbers for a deal, but it was a little tricky to coordinate with dreamguy2 playing the tournament from a mobile phone where he was unable to figure out how to initiate a deal, while the Russian ASPIDOV ALEK didn't have the best English. Eventually the players were able to coordinate themselves and with the help of a translator, the clock was paused with the counts as follows:
Seat 1: NeoNaoNeo (6,924,857 in chips)
Seat 2: dreamguy2 (9,543,368 in chips)
Seat 6: ASPIDOV ALEK (12,836,775 in chips)
The players requested ICM numbers which came up with:
ASPIDOV ALEK - $2,037.57
dreamguy2 - $1,915.36
NeoNaoNeo - $1,785.34
Winner - $200
ASPIDOV ALEK wasn't happy with this and demanded $2,250, so the other two players generously tossed over $100 each with the following deal agreed to:
ASPIDOV ALEK - $2,237.57
dreamguy2 - $1,815.36
NeoNaoNeo - $1,685.34
Winner - $200
The three players agreed to the new numbers and the cards were back in the air.
It was a great deal for NeoNaoNeo as disaster struck on the first hand back following the break:
After getting frisky on the flop, NeoNaoNeo caught top pair on the turn, but by the time all the chips were in the middle on the river, NeoNaoNeo's top pair wasn't enough to get past the set of ASPIDOV ALEK. Thanks to the deal, NeoNaoNeo received $1,685.34 for 3rd place.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 2: dreamguy2 (9,393,363 in chips)
Seat 6: ASPIDOV ALEK (19,911,637 in chips)
ASPIDOV ALEK started well, winning eight of the first nine pots of heads-up play, but dreamguy2 fought back to win the next five, with several substantial pots to narrow the disadvantage.
However the end came when the two committed their chips on a flop of 5♣6♥4♥. ASPIDOV ALEK bet with 4♣7♥ for a pair and straight draw, before dreamguy2 overbet shoved with 6♦8♠ for top pair and inside straight draw. ASPIDOV ALEK made the call and caught the 9♥ turn and 5♥ river to make a backdoor flush for the victory.
dreamguy2 collected $1,815.36 for 2nd place as ASPIDOV ALEK takes the MicroMillions II title to Russia along with $2,437.57 in prize money.
