MicroMillions II: Jumbo win for jeffezaa in Event #97 ($11 NLHE Sunday Storm Special)
From the start of the final table, players like Umek3000 and jeffezaa took control and pushed toward the chip lead. Umek3000 got there first, but jeffezaa never took eyes off the prize. By the time the two were heads-up, jeffezaa had a solid lead and finished the job only a few hands later. No tournament like this is easy, but players like jeffezaa can certainly make it look so.
Each week, the Sunday Storm takes over the world of online poker with tens of thousands of players competing for the weekly title. The $11 buy-in makes it affordable for players of many different bankroll levels to reach for the Sunday majors stars and big five-figure payouts. It's one of the bright spots of every Sunday on PokerStars.
This week, the Sunday Storm was a special edition as part of the final day of MicroMillions II. The $11 NLHE event was also Event 97, one of the last of this schedule of tournaments that awarded millions of dollars for micro buy-in events. The $300K guarantee was an attraction as well, and action got underway early and strong on this Sunday for the weekly Storm.
The final registration numbers were:
Prize pool: $417,170.00
Paid players: 5,292
The tournament moved more quickly than organizers anticipated, moving into the money in a few hours and through the payout levels at the same rapid pace. The last Team PokerStars Pro in the field, Dag Palovic of Slovakia, exited in 1291st place for $66.74, and play continued toward the final table.
Only two tables remained at the 8.5-hour break, and hand-for-hand was initiated by the 11th place elimination of Hoffke1970 less than 15 minutes later. That bubble play took nearly another 15 minutes and finally broke when Cerbie pushed all-in with Q♦J♦ on a 4♦7♠T♦ board. PeterPanse called with A♦T♣ for top pair, and that stood up to the 8♣ turn and 2♠ river. Cerbie left in tenth place with $1,347.45.
PeterPanse lead soon taken by Umek3000
Level 48 kicked things off with blinds of 300,000/600,000 and a 60,000 ante. Players' starting stacks were as follows:
Seat 1: Umek3000 (28,675,246 in chips)
Seat 2: jeffezaa (26,235,790 in chips)
Seat 3: PeterPanse (54,121,123 in chips)
Seat 4: Bamibal1 (28,211,820 in chips)
Seat 5: lofty880 (13,121,883 in chips)
Seat 6: ! DOIIIING ! (22,916,894 in chips)
Seat 7: 2cool4any1 (7,654,088 in chips)
Seat 8: se-god (12,331,121 in chips)
Seat 9: 0verc00ked (15,317,035 in chips)
PeterPanse started with a strong lead, but the aggressive Umek3000 wanted the chip lead back. The two tangled in a pot worth more than 27 million chips, and Umek3000 won it, along with the chip lead.
Lofty880 doubled through ! DOIIIING !, and jeffezaa doubled through PeterPanse when both players had pocket kings but jeffezaa made a diamond flush to win the pot. That one generated a lot of "wow" comments in the chat box.
Se-god woke up to 9♣9♦ in the small blind and made an all-in push. Original UTG raiser Umek3000 snap-called, though, with A♥A♣. The board of K♥3♥4♣K♣3♣ changed nothing, and se-god took ninth place in the tournament, which was worth $1,802.17.
Two hands later, ! DOIIIING ! moved all-in from middle position with A♦J♥. The next to act was 2cool4any1, who called all-in with 8♦8♥. then 0verc00ked reraised all-in , and everyone else folded. 0verc00ked showed A♥K♦, and the board came 6♣4♠6♠Q♣8♣. 2cool4any1 won the main pot and more than doubled, while 0verc00ked took the side pot and ! DOIIIING ! left the action in eighth place with $3,062.02.
2cool4any1 doubled through PeterPanse in another "wow" moment when A-Q cracked pocket kings with an ace on the river. That left PeterPanse ready to move, and it happened with A♠3♠ two hands later. Bamibal1 reraised all-in to isolate, which worked, and showed J♠J♥. The board produced 2♠6♠3♥5♣7♣, but the jacks held up to eliminate PeterPanse in seventh place with $4,501.26.
The very next hand found 0verc00ked all-in from the small blind, but Umek3000 called from the big blind with A♠J♣. The K♣4♣ of 0verc00ked was behind and never caught up on the 3♠9♣2♠8♣A♦ board. That left 0verc00ked out in sixth place with $6,482.82.
Lofty880 was the next player at risk, moving all-in from the button with A♠7♥. Umek3000 was there again, this time with 9♣9♠. The flop of J♦4♥9♦ made Umek3000's hand into a set, and nothing about the Q♦ turn or K♣ river changed anything. Lofty880 had to leave in fifth place with $9,720.06.
And then jeffezaa attacks
Just when it looked like Umek3000 had a lock on the chip lead, jeffezaa takes this pot to jump ahead:
The two players from the Netherlands were on the short stacks, and 2cool4any1 was one of them. The move came with Q♣3♣ preflop, and Umek3000 called with A♦9♠. The board blanked with J♠7♣5♦K♦4♣, and 2cool4any1 had to leave in fourth place with $12,957.30.
The other player from the Netherlands, Bamibal1, also made a move, this time with 4♦4♥. Jeffezaa called with K♣9♥, and though the flop of 5♦6♥3♠ was positive for Bamibal1, the K♠ hit on the turn to give jeffezaa the best hand. The 5♥ on the river ended it for Bamibal1, who left in third place with $16,219.56.
Big stacks deal and play for $6K
The final two players began their heads-up match with these chip stacks:
Seat 1: Umek3000 (52,329,321 in chips)
Seat 2: jeffezaa (156,255,679 in chips)
The two quickly paused the tournament to discuss a deal, and with $6,000 set aside for the eventual winner, the agreed that jeffezaa would receive $27,513.29 and Umek3000 would take $25,706.56.
Five hands later, it was done. The hand began with a raised flop of 9♠5♣Q♦. Umek3000 bet, and jeffezaa called to see the 6♠ on the turn. Umek3000 bet again, and jeffezaa raised, so Umek3000 called. The 9♦ on the river brought a check from Umek3000, bet from jeffezaa, and raise from Umek3000. Jeffezaa reraised all-in, and Umek3000 called.
Trip nines were no good against the full house of jeffezaa, and Umek3000 had to accept second place and the $25,706.56 that went with it.
Jeffezaa of Canada took down Event 97 of MicroMillions II, along with $33,513.29 in prize money. Congrats!
